North Carolina Roll Call

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Ok folks - it is that time again .... there are many new names and faces (well avatars anyway) on our web site ... time to get to know the North Carolina people.

Lets give a location - why you are there, your current nursing status and anything else you might want to share ....

I am Patrick, the moderator for the North Carolina Forum ... live in Asheville - moved here a year ago from Florida and love the mountains and the moderate climate .... can tell you that Hurricane Frances breezed through town last week and gave us a lot of headaches! Anyway, I am a nurse manager for a med-surg unit and a single father of 3. I attend the University of Phoenix and am hoping to graduate with my BSN-MSN in the very near future. :coollook:

Specializes in nursing assistant.

I am Shenell, a 33 year old mom from williamston. I have my first day of class on tomorrow. I have a little bit of all of the emotion stirring around in me. I am just praying that God goes with me and stays with me for the duration.

Specializes in nursing assistant.

My first ADN class is tomorrow. I just finished looking at just one of the books and it was . I know that I am going to be in the books all of the time.

Hello,

I just relocated to Morrisville, NC and will be applying to Watts but Im also going to look at Wake Tech. Not sure of all the schools around here. I have two small boys and Im looking for part time work during the week to fit with my childcare. Ive applied to DUKE and Wake Med. Anyone have any other suggestions? I was even going to apply to some local clinics once I find out where they are. I worked as a Unit Clerk in the ER and in Registration in the ER. Hoping that will help me land a part time job.

wfubmc is a great place to work. management is great  and the benefits are good, many opportunities for growth and flexibility, especially if you are a single mom.

there is one place where i worked in the past that i would never recommend to anyone - phh or presbyterian hospital huntersville. the management there is so bad, they all are like the mob. do not really care for the patient care, just for things to look good from the outside. if you are not ready to close your eyes for all the wrong things happening around you, and to cooperate with others that like to cut corners, then never apply at phh or presby for that matter. they say that they have anonymous way to report wrong doings, but trust me, it ain't anonymous, they go back, check and find who that person was and then... be ready to be either fired or to live life in hell.

cmc has great environment. their pay is a bit less, but it is all worthy. they have wonderful management that really cares for the patients and that things are done right, and you have more options if you would like to transfer or take on extra shifts. cmc is a great place for single parents or for anyone that likes to have more flexibility. :up:cmc= great managment:up: their patient population is somewhat underserved :redbeathe, but that only makes your job more satisfying. everyone feels like they are part of your family and help you out in any way they can. their attendance policy is very relaxed and so is the whole atmosphere. their physician network is awesome, and all the specialists are a+++. benefits are awesome as well.

everyone that i know that has worked for presby and cmc, has gone back to cmc or has stayed at cmc. no one wants to go back to presby = bad management:down:.

Hi all!

I'm a new grad nurse in Cary, NC, working on a cardiovascular telemetry floor. I'm orginally from NY/CT, but have been down here 11+ years. I'll add my disclaimer here; this was based on salaries/differentials at the time of my graduation in May, and may be subject to change at any moment! Hope it helps!

I am recent grad with my LPN planning to continue to my RN. I live in Pitt county and have for most of my life. I have raised three children, one whom is serving her country in Iraq and the other two in college themselves. It was hard going back to school after all these years but so far so good. I have not been able to acquire a job like I wanted yet but still working on it. Just have not found the job the Lords wants me to have yet. :wink2:

When he does finally lead you to the job he has in mind, it will be so great! Im studying for my entrance exam for Watts. Im married with two young boys, a 4yr old and a 15mth old. Woo wee. Only with God could I prepare for nursing school.

Greetings from Charlotte!

Graduated from an ADN program school that is based through the level-1 trauma center here in charlotte. Now working as an ED-observation nurse for less than a year with my eyes on my BSN!

Am originally from asheville, from the candler area so...howdy!:wink2:

Julinoe, thanks for that cheat sheet...I plan on moving to the Raleigh area next year and that was a big help. My daughter lives there and gave birth to my 1st grandchild this summer. The wages are much less than where I live in GA., but I really love the area and want to be near my daughter.

Hi, all, this is a great nursing site, I feel like I already know lots of you. I am looking forward to moving to NC next year.

New member from Denver NC, just outside of Charlotte.

I am a working mother of 2 daughters. Married for 8 years. My husband is a career firefighter in our little town.

I worked as a CNA during 2004. I stopped working in July 04 to care for my two children at home. I (stupidly) let my CNA expire. I just recently found a "Assisted Living Center" to work as a Caregiver but using my CNA skills. It's more of a Nursing home.

I enjoy working and helping the residents of the facitly but I can already tell that I'm going to get worn out quickly on it. There is a lot of turn-over at this facilty. I've been there 5 weeks now and 4 people have quit. Last night I took my first punch, luckily on the back, I just happend to turn in just enough time to avoid being hit in the face.

I've joined here to help motivate me to go back to school. I don't need much, just some extra support.

Sorry for making my into so long.

Alexandria
