A question about Adenosine
I think what they are referring to is the adenosine protocol for alot of hospitals. You give 6 mg first, if that doesnt convert (put the patient back into a sinus or atleast slow their rate ) then you would proceed with more adenosine.

A question about Adenosine
I have given adenosine 18mg at once bam...a few times. Usually with the cardiologist at bedside, and he knows what the pt requires to convert. Its not common, but have done it.

Why Did You Choose Telehealth Nursing?
Hello fellow nurses, I realise this is an old post but thought I would go ahead and ask a question on it. I have recently moved to a rural area with very little nursing options available. I currently have found a part time ER nurse position but need somethign to go with it. Am researching and looking into telephone triage nursing from home, can anyone give me any feedback. Their thoughts/views/pros/cons etc. What company are you with and do you recommend them? Thanks for any information Auntsas

mandatory OT?!?
Thanks for your input. Yes, the contract was ended over it. Lesson learned...I have never seen anything like that before. I heard nothing of it before 3:30 am my first weekend shift there. The agency knew of it, i am sure. I wasnt the only medstaff travelor in the unit, the other one called and complained about it, but her mandation was cancelled so she hasnt had to press it yet. They choose to not tell me about it before I drove 20 hours there. My heart goes out to anyone who would have to put up with that full time! OUch!

Convince Me About MedStaff...
Completely agree with you. Although with any company it needs to be in writing..I dont trust any agency. Medstaff has been dishonest with me through and through on the current assignment. This is the only assignment I have ever walked on... They would not make the hospital abide by the contract, would not even address the issues that were at hand. Did NOTHing for me honestly. I am still in the fighting process of the contract, but can atleast tell you that it has been an ugly experience thus far. I would be VERY VERY VERY careful taking a contract with them. Even if your contract was right (such as my case) they will not back it up in fear of loosing their contract with the hospital...My best wishes to you.

MED STAFF
Just to clarify a previous post I made: I did end up taking a contract with Medstaff and this is the first contract I have ever walked on. Terrible to put it kindly. The agency has not been helpful in the least bit, everytime I want to speak with my recruiter"he is out of the office", dishonest through and through. Did not uphold the contract to the hospital, wouldnt back anything for me. You would be just as well going as an indepedant contractor than to use this agency. Their emergency staff consultant was absoltely USeless! Literally told me I would have to resolve this issue, there was nothing that she could do for me. Then proceeded to ask me what I would do for this situation if they werent there? I was told to take the situation in my own hands...which I did and walked on the contract. I had no interest in working for a hospital with such unsafe things as I have seen from them, and certainly not interested in working for an agency that is as dishonest as they are. * I wanted to clarify this for future travelors looking to search medstaff reviews. Thanks

mandatory OT?!?
Well this is a first for me, thought I might see if you have heard of this(or any advice). I accepted a contract in CT (I am from IL), got here two weeks ago and everything has been going well until this past weekend. I was working a 12 hour night shift on Friday night, at 0330 I was informed I was being mandated to work overtime due to emergency staffing. I questioned the house supervisor about it, there is nothing with in my contract that says I can be mandated, I never agreed to any kind of mandatory staffing. HS tells me that it is with in the contract between the hospital/agency. Three of us night shift nurses all had to take a four hour increments. Someone 7-11, another 11-3 and then 3-7/ All three of us had to return to work at 7pm Saturday. They wanted me to work 7am-11am the following Saturday morning. I needed to get back to my housing (30 minutes away) due to some obligations I had. I traded another nurse, so I ended up working the 3-7 slot. Before I reported to work at 3, I called the HS to make sure I was still needed...she informed me I was so that they could safetly have somewhere to admit to. (seriously is that emergent staffing???) I watched a staff nurse work 12 hour nights, be off four hours, work four hours, off four and then return to work another 12. I have never seen anything like it before in my life. The staff nurses here tell me that this happens frequently on the weekends. I called the agency this morning to inform them of the above, and that I would NOT be working 12, off 4, work 4 off 4 and work another 12. I couldnt even see straight if I tried to do that. They contacted the hospital and the assistant nurse manager called me this morning....and says that is with in their union contract to help with emergency staffing. I told her I was not in the union... I said it would not be safe for me to even drive under those conditions...the assistant nurse manager tells me that I can sleep in the hospital. Now if I am not safe to drive..why would I be safe to practice as a critical care nurse? I have a strong feeling this contract is going to be cancelled tomorrow. Anyone experience anything like this before? Would appreciate any advice/feedback that you have. Thanks Also since when does a poorly staffed schedule become an emergency? IMO an emergency is something that wasnt expected...not a schedule that has been out a month and no one signed up to work it! The managers lack of planning...doesnt become my emergency!

Is my recruiter taking me for a ride??
Intersting. I am looking at a contract in Farmington Ct for 31/hour. I am living in IL and I can make that as a staff nurse. I guess part of it is the economy....they can get away with these poor pay rates. Knowing anything about Farmington? I have never been in that direction! I think if you work the same company on back to back contracts, they figure out what the minimum you will work for and wont budge from it!

MED STAFF
Did you end up going with them? I havnt read alot of reviews myself but I am getting ready to sign a contract with them. I have been talking to Jason Iannoti (recruiter) and he seems pretty descent. I have been having a terrible time getting into a contract, and they have atleast submitted me to a few places. Thanks for any review/advice. Auntsas

Travel in Rolla, MO
Well I think there is alot of "fishyness" in what travel companies tell you right now. The agency that called me was core medical group. I have never worked for them, but certainly wasnt impressed with the recruiter and his information on what the company would/wouldnt provide. He spoke to me as if I was stupid... Being from Mo, I am always interested in what is posting there because it is nice to go back closer to home. The recruiter asked me where I was looking, I told him the midwest, MO IL, IA. He came up with the Rolla MO idea...apparently. Blessings!
