North Carolina Roll Call

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Ok folks - it is that time again .... there are many new names and faces (well avatars anyway) on our web site ... time to get to know the North Carolina people.

Lets give a location - why you are there, your current nursing status and anything else you might want to share ....

I am Patrick, the moderator for the North Carolina Forum ... live in Asheville - moved here a year ago from Florida and love the mountains and the moderate climate .... can tell you that Hurricane Frances breezed through town last week and gave us a lot of headaches! Anyway, I am a nurse manager for a med-surg unit and a single father of 3. I attend the University of Phoenix and am hoping to graduate with my BSN-MSN in the very near future. :coollook:

How can I get into that area, telephone triage? What company do you work for, if you dont mind me asking?

This there a PM option on this site, I want to ask you Webbie some more questions, that are somewhat private for me?

:nurse: Hello all from Nebo, NC. Between Morganton and Marion NC :) I just accepted a job in NICU and look forward to starting the new job. I have worked in Nursery for 9 years and the offer came at a perfect time. I have a lot to learn I know but I am very excited about the new opportunity.

Hi, I have been an RN (ADN) for 8 yrs and have 3 classes left to complete my BSN through WSSU. I have worked at FMC, Head Start and with CAP & ICFMR/DD/MI services. Recently joined this site and enjoying the great info here. I stay busy with family, work & school but love to hike in the mountains of NC when I can.

Howdy all, from the Outer Banks :) Babynurse, I was just out near your way in Claremont (outside of Hickory), visiting my Mom.......your town sticks out to me because I found out there is a Britthaven Nursing Home in your town, and was thinking I might be able to transfer there. I've only been a LPN since Oct. 07, but am thinking of going online to do my RN since I cannot afford to quit working to go back to school:sniff: What is nursing like online? I did my general ed. online, but dont know what to think of nursing online.........how do you do clinicals?

Dixie, hey. I know you were talking to babynurse but I am doing my nursing classes at home through Excelsior. After your GE classes are out of the way you only have 7 classes to take for nursing. It is simply self study and you test at testing center when you are comfortable with the material. There are MANY publishing companies out there that try to sell you their workbooks and study modules but they are very very pricey. You can get books else where, but that just takes research and it is a personal decision. Clinicals are a weekend long clinical at participating hospitals. Local for NC is Georgia. Everyone says clinical is a butt kicker, but there are workshops you can attend to help you better prepare. Good luck with your decisions. I have been an LPN for 9 yrs and am just now getting around to going back to school. WHEW lol! Best wishes from one North Carolinian to another!

Hi!! I live in Goldsboro and I am about to start my first semester in an ADN program at Wayne CC!! I'm so excited!!:nurse:

ncnurse, I have heard about Excelsior but have only been out of LPN school for a year and I'm still trying to juggle working full-time! LOL I guess I need to go on their website and start pricing.......I think I need a few more years experience before I start thinking about "butt-kicker" clinicals....LOL

What part of NC are you from?

Hi all! I'm new here, just joined a few days ago. I live in the Hickory, NC area, which is north of Charlotte. I moved here at the end of 2006.

Right now I'm just getting into nursing. :nurse: I have to take a Pathways class (3 days) at CVCC and take the Pathways test, then I can be put on a waiting list for a CNA 1 class. Anyone else in the Hickory area? Or going to CVCC (Hickory or the Alexander County campus)? I'd really like to know how the classes are...and of course what books I'm going to need and all that. :D

I have a three year-old son. He's the real reason I've decided to go into nursing. He's the most beautiful child, but I'm raising him alone, and up to now I've only been able to find menial low-paying jobs. Definately not enough to pay for childcare, so I've only been able to work part time.

So, after signing up and completing a Medical Billing course, I found out from a doctor/customer of mine that nurses are generally taking over that field. There goes $900 of my hard-earned cash! :banghead: I hmmphed and cried and blubbered for about 10 minutes, then decided I wasn't going to let this get me down. I started researching :typing different schools in the area (believe me, there aren't many) and decided that my best bet would be CVCC.
