  1. We sure do love a balanced team of men and women in the behavioral health units!!
  2. Hi, I am recently trying to crossover to insurance based work as well. I am currently going through the interview process with Aetna in High Point. I haven't found any home based positions there, but I have seen some posted for United Healthcare in the Chapel Hill area. You can go directly to their website and search in careers.
  3. what state was this VA in?
  4. I had to sacrifice time with my young children as I worked 3rd shift, went to school during the mornings and napped in the afternoons, the guilt was there but remember in the long run you are providing a stable future and you will be a great role model for you child.
  5. Are there any updates on this medication exam? I am applying for an acute mental health position with the VA and been out of school for sometime now. I still have my dosage calc book and a great lab reference guide but would like a heads up on areas to study. thanks
  6. By the way, prison nursing is actually not bad as long as you have reliable security. I am doing weekends in a medium security in NC as I finish my BSN and it is one of the physically easiest nursing jobs I have done. There are protocols for anything you need to do which is a great resource for learning. Check out the forum here on corrections.
  7. I worked a night shift position floating to 3 group homes caring for 18 people with developmental disabilities. Some had chronic medical issues others had psychiatric conditions. I worked as a med tech for the company also. This job gave me a lot of insight on the conditions and treatments involved in their care. which was very helpful during school. The actual hours worked allowed time to study as the residents usually went to bed by 10 & slept till 6 or 7. I went on to classes from work & slept in the evening. Worked out well for me.
  8. this post is coming late but are you still on the slope? what are some of your experiences there?
  9. My first day in the infimary I saw a young man come in "peeing coffe grounds" as he stated. He had over done it in the yard at the weight pile.
  10. $5 dollars for sick calls. $7 for inmate declared emergency, charge will be waived if it turns out to be valid.
  11. I have been working with a HS program in NC for a little over 3 years now. It is not FT but I have learned a lot & went through federal review the first year. I will try to help out if I can. Holly
  12. If you need anymore info, I will try to help out.
  13. I have had PF on & off for close to 8 yrs, triggered by 12 hour nursing shifts when I first went into nursing... I have found work that is about 1/2 standing/walking & half desk work. Dansko & Mephisto have been good for me if doing a lot of standing, haven't tried Z coils/MTBs, thinking about trying Crocs Rx Relief (designed for PF), prior PF I was a Birkenstock fan which are fine around the house unless I have a flare up.
  14. With experience in MDS if you continue with that, I would think 60K give or take a little. I live between Charlotte & Greensboro near Salisbury/Mooresville/Statesville. There are Brian Centers, Autumn Care, Genesis long term care centers along with a lot of private poviders too. Carolina Medical Center is the corporate base for a lot of the Charlotte/Concord area hiring.
  15. There are a lot of places hiring, depending on what & where you are looking. Their are federal jobs affiliated with the VA - Salisbury (hospital & long term care), or clinics in Winston Salem, Charlotte & Hickory. NC Dept of Corrections throughout those areas has positions but takes a while to go through the hiring process. Novant Health Care is managing hospitals throughout the areas you are considering. Many homehealth & private duty agencies. Are you looking for a rural area or want to be closer to a city?
