    North Carolina Roll Call

Dixie, hey. I know you were talking to babynurse but I am doing my nursing classes at home through Excelsior. After your GE classes are out of the way you only have 7 classes to take for nursing. It is simply self study and you test at testing center when you are comfortable with the material. There are MANY publishing companies out there that try to sell you their workbooks and study modules but they are very very pricey. You can get books else where, but that just takes research and it is a personal decision. Clinicals are a weekend long clinical at participating hospitals. Local for NC is Georgia. Everyone says clinical is a butt kicker, but there are workshops you can attend to help you better prepare. Good luck with your decisions. I have been an LPN for 9 yrs and am just now getting around to going back to school. WHEW lol! Best wishes from one North Carolinian to another!

    Night Nursing School in NC?

not looking for an easy clinical, there is not such thing. i was just interested in something where i could do clinicals as i went along and not have to stress about making one mistake and going home only to have to pay $1900 again.
  4. I work both days and nights. We are required to alternate our 12 hour shifts monthly. This is to keep the "well the othe shift does not do this/that" to a minimum. We experience first hand that each shift has its pros/cons. So to answer the question....night nurses work just as hard as day nurses...and if in doubt, join us and see for yourself! p.s. LTC is a different story...I used to do that...nights are a bit more laid back

I agree, do what you think will make you feel best, afterall you are the one who has to live with yourself. Everyone has different things that drive them. I guess my post made me sound hardened and jaded, but as terrible as it seems, after 12 yrs in healthcare a certain amt of that takes place, and you realize it is not your responsibility to save everyone because it is impopssible to do or they refuse to be saved. Then again maybe its just me, maybe I'm the cold hearted nurse no one will want to work with when I'm near retirement lol. You truely seem like a pt advocate...so, again do what makes YOU feel best. Best Wishes!

    Learn To Say It Correctly!!

Hope my post was not offensive to some of u, but it seems it was. That was not the intent. That is simply something that aggrivates me. Having "sugar" not "sugar diabetes" is sweet alright but not in the context u are referring lol. Say them out loud, you have to admit, i have "sugar" sounds much worse than, i have "sugar diabetes".

    Advice re: nightshift

May take a while to adjust, but it will happen. Many people have said to take care of stuff before you go to sleep and sleep until aprox an hour prior to going in to work. I am opposite. I have small children. One in school and one in daycare. So if I sleep in the evenings(working 12 hour shifts) I never get to see them. So, I go home in am, usually starved cause I only eat around 0100, i grab a bowl of cereal or something, shower, read a few minutes to relax me then crash and sleep like a log! Usually asleep by 0900 and sleep til about 1600, around same time kiddos and hubby get home. Thats what works best for me but to each their own. Just thought I'd give "non-popular" way of doing it lol. Best Wishes!

    Learn To Say It Correctly!!

Ohhh soo many to choose from lol! I really should give those with no healthcare education some slack, but patients and family drive me crazy with mispronunciations!! Im sure after all the replys to this thread there is someone who is bound to have commented on these as well. Sorry I am being lazy and not looking at all 893 pages(sorry a bit of a stretch huh?) 1. nurse...i think i need my "os-ca-gen" thru the "can-noo-la" 2. im so sick i think i will "vomick" 3. i use a "c-pack" machine to help me sleep these are just a few that make me cringe! oh yeah and i HATE when they say : i have "sugar" referring to diabetes:banghead: i feel like saying, " wow, really? that must be hard on you.....and me....and everyone else in the world, cause we all have "sugar" too!!"

    Night Nursing School in NC?

Any one in NC know of any night time nursing schools? I am taking classes through Excelsior but the clinical at the end stresses me out lol. I wonder if night classes c continual clinical would not be less stressful. Thanks.
  12. YES YES YES a thousand times yes!!! I would NEVER have went for LPN first. I am an LPN and have been for 9 yrs and have said from the day I graduated I was going straight back for my RN...well life happens! 9 years later I am finally starting my RN classes! I could kick myself for not doing it to start with!

FREE sites to help you study!!

I hope these will be helpful to you all. 1st 2 are for A&P. They are good for students and those who have been in nursing for years! Makes you realize how much you dont know lol! http://www.getbodysmart.com/ http://www.fastol.com/~renkwitz/ap.htm And this one is practice tests that come in handy for general ed type classes for testing out with Excelsior. Good Luck to you all! http://www.4tests.com/exams/examdetail.asp?eid=78 :heartbeat:nurse::heartbeat

    Nursing, Smoking, and Kids

Why the sudden urge to talk to them since starting nsg school? Would you tell someone who was drinking around their child they could be rotting their liver out...i mean eventually that would harm their child(emotionally) as well. Best to just shhhhh. I agree with you that it is a bad habit and TERRIBLE for kiddos to be around but will u help or make it worse?
