NCLEX...don't break my heart...again!!!
JCrow - I had a good friend of mine fail it 3 times (and he graduated magna cum lade) but when he did pass, the job he was looking at when we first graduated that wasn't avalible, but when he passed...it was (it was a sign!) ;-) If there is a bunch of stuff going on in your life then that can be a distraction but I think everything happens for a reason. Don't forget about all of the things you do have (like a new baby! and remember he/she is your motivation!) You can do it! Just remember to stay positive!

I think I HATE what i'm doing...
hey!! I was kind of in the same boat as you. I loved nursing school but once i got out into the hospital setting i hated it. i too cried every night i had to work, and the only thing that kept me going was the people i worked with were so nice. I started looking for a job in April and in August I got one out of the hospital and i just started and i love it. its totally different - its a research position so its about 50% pt. time and 50% paperwork, i have a desk, etc. MUCH better for me. i too constantly worried about if i was going to mess up, but you cant be afraid to ask questions too. HOWEVER. if you really feel nursing isnt for you....get out. i would reccommend trying another department (possibly out of the hospital) and see if that helps...if it doesnt, get out. from the way your post sounds (talking about how you are a senior) im guessing you are pretty young like me. one of the things i had to think about was im going to be working for the next 40+ Y-E-A-R-S. I was not about to stay somewhere where I cried and got sick to my stomach everyday for the rest of my life. i live once, and i want to work somewhere that i ENJOY going to. you have to make YOU happy. good luck and keep us posted!!!

Report peeves
what drives me crazy is when i come on at 1900, the day nurses want to give report at 1901, no later, but when they come on at 0700, they have to get their coffee, mingle in the board room....dont come out until 0705 at the absolute earliest. Plus im usually tracking people down trying to give them report because they are off talking with nurses about what they did that weekend, etc. if you want report that fast what makes you think i dont?! grrrrr

Oh man, I need help...
i agree, go with the Dr office, it is obgyn so you will have experience in prenatal care and you can pick up on some L&D things while you are there, and the hours are great! good luck! you will do great!

Job transfer with almost no notice!
wow! are there any other hospitals in your area you can go to? what do friends from your school say about where they went to work? I wouldn't stand for that for 2 seconds that is crazy!! i think you should make sure you keep yourself FIRST and dont get overworked! good luck - keep us posted!

two job offers, wesley or via christi??
Hey there! Its kind of hard to tell you which one to pick - are you leaning towards one more than another? I have worked at Wesley the whole time, and thats where I had my ED rotation so you know which one i will say! :chuckle I know it sounds dumb but write out the pros and cons of both (pay, how close to where you are going to live - west side is so much better! , what did you like about the facilities, what didnt you like, etc. I had a really great rotation when I did my clinical everyone was super nice! Where are you moving from? I really like Wichita, its a good sized town, still big enough to have stuff to do but small enough where it takes you 15-20 min to get from one side of town to the other! Welcome! Let me know if you have any other questions - feel free to PM me for anything!

Getting away from bedside nursing
holy cow! i had to read your name because the first line of your post sounded EXACTLY like one i made a while ago!! i work in the same dept, and have the same feelings and was looking for another job! i just got hired at a research institute as a clinical research coordinator (Try putting that in the job searches on monster and career builder) i decided in april L&D wasnt for me so i started looking then and it took a very long time (for me it took forever it seemed, 6 months) i also graduated in Dec 07 so yeah, lack of experience is a major problem. what i did was look in the sunday paper every week, look at careerbuilder.com, monster.com, indeed.com, and just google any other job search engine. also, to find what you might like, try going to the "speciality" tab at the top of this website and click on "Nursing specialties" and i looked through each forum to see if it interests you, then if it does, type that title (case manager) in the search engine website! good luck! feel free to PM me if you want! :wink2:

CNA State EXAM!!! (Freaking OUT) Sept 16th
i havent ever taken that exam, but i think you feel that way regardless of whatever the test is when it is one like that! just relax, i know its hard, but try not to stress too much. whatever is going to happen is going to happen, and just do your best, study hard, and take the day off before you take the test! get a massage, or get your nails done, do something to relax and take your mind off of it!

Need to fit in!
I actually just turned in my 2 weeks at my l&d unit!! lol i enjoyed it very much (im very close with all the staff and have to tell them tonight that i turned in my 2 weeks :-( ) we have 20 beds on our unit (we are across the street from the major hospital and a low risk facility - the L&D in the hospital is a 26 bed unit) i turned in my 2 weeks because hospital nursing just isnt for me, i prefer more of the office setting and was offered a job that was too good to pass up. Anyway, I dont think i've ever had a night where i didnt bond with my patients (we do labor and delivery and post partum, but across the street does just L&D) we do the majority of charting on QS, and we always have anes. in house. I was on orientation (new grad) for 8 weeks and when i got off that, i felt really good, staff is really great and so helpful. i really am sorry to leave, but it just want the right fit for me, if i could take everyone i worked with with me, i would! We have a great NICU (if i remember right, its the top rated one) and its just a great place to work, just not a great fit for me personally. If you were to come here, you would probably be hired in the main hospital (i dont know if they are going to fill my position where i was at because they cut back staff (they asked a few people who wanted to go PT to switch from FT), but if you like post partum as well you could always try there! good benefits, staff, environment, training, etc. plus you already know QS!! let me know if you would like the website and i can PM it to you! good luck!:wink2:

im a newbie!
one other thing - i know you have to work in the field for 2 years before you can take the test to be a certified clinical research coordinator, but what exactly is the test like? i guess im asking what are the questions like? my facility will pay for me to take the prep course and take it so i think its a great opportunity! the other question i have is how many times can you take it and what is the difficulty? (i guess thats 2 questions!) :wink2:

Finally!!
I FINALLY got a job! I was sooooo unhappy at the one im at now and have been looking literally everyday since April and was getting very frustrated! I had an interview yesterday and totally fell in love with the place, the woman I interviewed with was great, I got to sit with someone who is doing the job I will be doing, and she was so nice and the other coordinator came up and introduced herself to me when I was just sitting there not hired or anything! I have been on 4 interviews and this one was the only one that I fell in love with and HAD to have! Its for a research company which I love! I posted on here several times about how frustrating the job search was since I am a new grad (Dec 07) and NOONE wanted the lack of experience and you all were wonderful at having encouraging words and eventhough I hated the job, you made me realize there is something for everyone, and I just had to be patient! THANK YOU! you guys are awesome!
