Ok folks - it is that time again .... there are many new names and faces (well avatars anyway) on our web site ... time to get to know the North Carolina people.
Lets give a location - why you are there, your current nursing status and anything else you might want to share ....
I am Patrick, the moderator for the North Carolina Forum ... live in Asheville - moved here a year ago from Florida and love the mountains and the moderate climate .... can tell you that Hurricane Frances breezed through town last week and gave us a lot of headaches! Anyway, I am a nurse manager for a med-surg unit and a single father of 3. I attend the University of Phoenix and am hoping to graduate with my BSN-MSN in the very near future.
Hello! I am Sara, a married mother of two beautiful girls, ages 3 and 1. I live in Summerfield, NC. I moved to NC about three years ago and LOVE IT! I have finished LPN school and am studying to take my NCLEX exam. After that, I plan on going back to school to get my RN (maybe BSN).
I have three and a half years of college credit under my belt just waiting to be put back into use! Does anyone have any suggestions on the best programs in the area (Greensboro, W/S, High Point)? I am looking for something that will possibly take the LPN in to consideration. My husband works crazy schedules, so a school with an excellent day care facility would be a great asset as well!
Thanks
And it is nice to meet you all

I do know that Davidson Community College has an LPN Bridge program. You usually will only need approx 4 core classes before applying to the nursing program. And it's best to take the core there, because DCC students will be given first priority. They also have daycare facilities on campus. Good Luck!

I also live in Greensboro but am still in the process of finishing my prereqs. I'm taking A&P I and communications this semester. Next semester, I'll take my last two prereqs. Not sure what I'll take this summer because as you might know, most of the schools around here go by points. Since, I've not worked in the medical field nor do I have my BS, my points come strickly from grades. I'm doing pretty good in A&P I so far but it is so time consuming that I don't know if I can handle it in the summer.hello, everyone.I live in the greensboro area. I have been a nurse for 20 years. The last 8 years has an RN. I am a graduate of Excelsior College, "the non traditional independent study nursing program." I love nursing and continue to be happy that I went on to be an RN. My husband is also a nurse (lpn w/ no desire to go on and that's ok.) We moved here 13 years ago from upstate New York to beautiful NC to raise our two children. Our son will graduate in december from Appalachian State, our married daughter lives in Chesapeake, Va. I work in long term care (same facility since movng here) as an MDS Coordinator. And am glad to have found this site.
I've applied to a school in Winston Salem that will accept bio 163 for the LPN program. I took 163 as my biology class but only got a 'C' in the class so I don't know if it'll be good enough to get me in. If not, I'll just have to wait until I take A&P II next semester and wait and hope that I'm accepted.
If I get accepted to the LPN program, then I'll bridge to the RN program. I have a couple of friends that became LPN's first and they said that they had an advantage over the students that had never been LPN especially in clinicals.
Anyhow, happy to read that we live in the same city.

Both GTCC and Forsyth Tech has a bridge program form LPN to RN. I'd also check with Greensboro college. I think they have a program that might accept you credits and LPN toward your BS.

How is the program at Davidson? I looked at it but they had an entrance exam and I think they wanted an additional math and chemistry class which are my worse two subjects. Forsyth Tech nor GTCC require the chemistry or the additional math.
Hello everyone I am fairly new to the nurses forum. I live in Stokesdale NC around Greensboro area. I am originally from Pennsylvania. I have been down here for about five years now. I love NC. I am getting married in May and I am a Practical Nurse. I would like to make new friends. I just moved to Greensboro area and I am lost without friends except my fiance, who is wonderful. Nice to meet everyone.
Hi Everyone~
I will be relocating to Raleigh in a few months(hubby got a new job). I have 12 years under my belt, but currently work in a GI unit in Arlington VA. Born and raised in Fairfax, VA I am excited and a bit nervous about the move- new area to learn, place to live, maybe go back to school, and of course a new job. Allnurses has gotten me through a tough time or two before, and I know the site will help again.

DUKE and UNC are GOOD hospitals, but I've heard UNC is better!
