Is there a problem in the Neonatal ICU at UNC?
From being a parent of one of a patient in the NICU for 2 weeks. The nurses were wonderful and supportive of the families and of each other. I learned so much from them I will never forget. I can not speak to the staff turn over, but to the compassion give.

A shy nurse ?
I was shy when I started school and during my first year. My public health clinical instructor actually told me that I would not make it as a nurse because I did not force my way into a patient's home. I started to become more assertive as my confidence grew. Now my boss would love to have me be the shy person I was in school:) Good luck, it will get better.

Career counseling in Raleigh
Once again I turn to my favorite people for a little guidance. I am unemployed, by choice, since moving to Raleigh. I am also 4 months pregnant. I have been trying to figure out what I want to do next with my career and life. I have twelve years of experience in gero, rehab, and lately GI. I have been in this rut before, but never this bad. I have been trying to find a career counselor in the Raleigh area but have come up empty. I have looked at the websites/job listings for the hospitals near me, but nothing has caught my eye. I will admit that I was spoiled at my last job and it would be very hard for me to go back to 12s on the floor. I am a good nurse just a bit lost...

Thoughts/feelings 9/11
I don't really watch the news either. Every once in a while I will watch, but I avoid network TV most of the time. Apparently my hubby likes the political shows- go figure. Living in the DC area you heard about the government every day. I was working that day and still have the same hopeless feeling every year. There was nothing to but wait for the patients that never came. I told my hubby that there was no way I was going to watch any news program today because of the coverage. My hormones are already raging with being pregnant. I worry sometimes about bring a lil one in this world with everything going on. My neice had such a different childhood than mine, what will it be like in a few more years. I roamed around the city and town where we lived and she could not even cross the street without telling someone and have them watch her, what next.

Where were u 9/11/01?
Was at work on thhe ortho/neuro unit at my hospital that happened to be the first responder for the pentagon. We transfered out as many patients as we could to get ready for anything that might come to us. Our ER saw the most patients of all, they treated and released so many that day. I felt so helpless because there was no one for us to care for. There were so many staff in the ER we were told to stay clear and let the process work. I ended up leaving early and trying to find an open bar, not many places open that afternoon. I still cry every time I think about it

GI Disorders and NSAIDS
I want to preface my answer with Pharm was not my strong suit in school: Most of the docs that I worked with stopped the NSAIDS with the bleeders if totally possible. The patients were also placed on the PPI. I never saw them write for prostaglandins. In the past before H2 Blockers and PPI that might have been the recommended treatment. But with the advancement of treatment it would not make sense.

Hospital recommendations/advice -Manassas area
What part of Manassas exactly? There are big teaching hospitals and a few small ones. But depending on where you live would dictate how far you drive. Inova Fairfax is the biggest in the area- level 1 trauma center with most every specialty. But it could be a haul from Manassas. It has been a magnet hospital in the past- but I am not in the area anymore so I don't know if it still is. There are like 6 hospitals in the Inova group so you have your pick. I would check the INOVA web site. Prince William hospital has had problems in the past but they are getting better from what I have heard. It is a smaller hospital but right in Manassas. It just depends on what you want. Hope that helps a little:)

Old Dominion Students
From the literature that I have gotten, they seem to have really advanced the basic lab set up and even the graduate programs. The technology building was being rebuilt the last time I was on campus. So that is a good thing. I can't even remember if there were any real grad programs when I was there, now there are a few. Have you gone on campus and spoken to anyone about the program? I know it is summer vacation but the instructors should have office hours during the summer.

I graduated from ODU over 12 years ago. Sorry I can't help you. I think the program has been revamped since my time there.

Post-Op Guidelines, procedures
On the unit where I used to work- we would keep patients a minimum of 30 minutes after the last dose of medication given. If their vital signs were stable and their ride was there, they could leave. We offered crackers and something to drink, but not full meal. Length of stay post op depends on each units case load per day. We would have anywhere from 30-60 patients scheduled per day- hospital based, 6 procedure rooms, 12 rooms for pre and post. We could never keep every patient for an hour. There were some that stayed for longer, but most wanted to get away from us. I don't know why:) Not sure if that answers your question or not. But hope it helps a little.
