Hi Just getting input - do you think having given birth is an advantage in being an L&D nurse? Did you share the fact that you had given birth when interviewing for L&D? Is it even relevant? (duh, one does not have to be a cancer survivor to be an incredible oncology nurse, it just makes you the oncology nurse that you are). Just a passing thought. Responses appreciated. thanks

Hi, I'm Susie, 2nd career nurse (former social worker), graduated iBSN in 2004, worked for 5 months in peds hem/onc/BMT, had to stop working due to some family issues. Currently living in Ohio but will be relocating to NC (cary/apex) this summer. I'm hoping to work in L&D, NICU or peds.

Hi, I'm thinking about switching to Public Health too (and welcome any advice from other PH nurses). I'm a new grad RN (June 04), working on a Peds HemOncBMT unit, and the hours are basically killing me and my family. My real passions are OB/Peds/Public Health, I've done some mission work abroad and am really happiest when I'm doing the primary care thing. There's an opening at my city health dept for a maternal-child public health nurse. Any advice? Can a new grad really do the public health routine??? thanks.

I'm a new grad nurse too, and I'm interviewing for an OB position tomorrow! It's so hard to get any hospitals around here to even consider a new grad for OB so I'm really excited and nervous! did you have any special background to get the OB position, or is your area more "new grad friendly"? Hope all goes well on your first day. suz

How did you get results in 24 hours? I thought the fastest was 48 hours on-line? Maybe it won't be such a long wait. Congratulations!

I just got back from my NCLEX-RN too. Sucked. I know which areas I messed up - I came home and looked them up. Hopefully it wasn't enough to make me fail, but I'm not optimistic. Then again, can I really fail if I got all the other areas right, and messed up one other area? Hope not. I did really well on the HESI and graduated Cum Laude, you'd think that would count for something... It's going to be a really really long 48 hours.
