no job yet= lose weight time
okay like mostly everyone here i have been looking relentlessly for a rn job. i have been looking and sending applications everyday and don't have much to show for it. so this may be a little crazy, but i have decided to keep looking just as hard, but because i have nothing else to do..
started working out hard-core about a little over a week ago and getting my diet out of control. i have gained a lot more weight than i wanted to throughout nursing school with all the stress and i would love you now kick off the extra 20 pounds from nursing school and from even before that. what a better time to get in shape but now, when we have nothing else going on too crazy in our lives but looking for jobs.
then at least at the end of this mess we can have something to show for it. i might have been unemployed and struggling, but now i am lean, sexy and my thinest.
i was hoping we could use this thread to help encourage eachother, tell eachother what workouts we are doing, share successes, share food ideas, and talk about goals and results.
this may be kind of off topic for this forum, but i would love tons of buddies to keep us motivated and to share stories and results with...
i'll go first...
i weighed 158 when i started this workout and since looking for a job have dropped 3 pounds and try to workout everyday. i walk/ run and do a lot of pilates with exercise band. i am hoping to eventually get down to 124 maybe by november or december, but as long as it is healthy and consistent, i don't care when it comes off by.
i'll keep you posted:: i hope others will share with me too:bowingpur:bow:
congratulations blindsided!!! i was always kind of chunky (140-150) but like you i went through something very serious. my husband was diagonsed with cancer. that was a very stressful time for us and since i eat when i am stressed the weight went on me super fast. nine months later, after tons of chemo and radiation he was declared cancer free...however i had gained 45lbs!!! i was so ashamed of myself! when i started my initial weight loss i changed the way i ate. i only ate whole wheat carbs in the morning (branflakes or toast with an egg) and didn't have any startchy carbs the rest of the day. i ate a lot of chicken and turkey...mostly in the form of salads!! then i stopped eating altogether at 6:30 in the evening. i had such control! my husband or friends could sit infront of me and pig out at night and i wouldn't touch a thing!! at 150 lbs i hit a plateau...that's when i took up running! the rest of the weight just sort of fell right off! i was able to keep 60+ lbs off for more than a year. it wasn't until this past spring that i sort of 'fell off the wagon'! i am a die hard sweet chili heat doritos fan and a major chocoholic...yet i am so excited to get back to skinny!!! i want to be at least 135 lbs for my b-day in december. i will weigh myself tomarrow morning to see how much i have to lose...:roll
Hello all! I would like to join you guys in losing! Last year I weighed in at 170 and thought I was going to die. I am 5'1 and my body frame was not meant to carry 170 lbs. I weighed 127 before I had children and even after my two I stayed around 132. I worked out hard core 5 years ago and was down to 124 and loved the way I felt. I just felt so much more healthy, like I wasn't carrying around the excess anymore. Early this year I did start exercising 5-6 days a week and got down to 151 then had a few deaths in the family and went back to 160. Now I have been at it again for a few weeks and I am back to 155. So now I am ready to do this and get back to the 120's where my body should be. I have been exercising 5 days a week since I work 2 24 hr shifts. I know I could push my weight loss more if I ate better. It is tough to find support until you find people similar to yourself. I have been reading this thread for a few days and now I want to join you all in losing this weight once and for all! Anyone use the Treadclimber machine at the gyms? I LOVE IT! How about interval training? I haven't tried that yet but I have been reading that it can really push the weight loss.

Welcome studentnurse and alippin! blindsided, you have lost alot of weight! I think we are all trying to get to the 120's right??? then let's do this! I went down one pound this last week..not much but alot for me, I really try to avoid weighing myself because i havent seen much progress, so i just hate to see the same number on the scale week after week...let's keep this up girls!
Yeah I love interval training!!!........I don't know if I am doing it exactly like you should or how you read it but I have done anything from sprinting 30 secs/running 30 secs/ walking 30 seconds....to just itnervaling between running and walking briskly. And it have worked for me so far, so I would definitely encourage it. I don't do it everytime I work out, but every few days I will bump it up a little bit with interval training. And hey are at an advantage of doing this before and being the weight you want to be before, you really know how it feels to be in that good place, and that should drive you a little more. I have never been that small and I can't wait to be there.
Welcome to our group and these ladies are awesome with keeping you motivated with everything from weight loss to job searches to w/e you want to share. I love this group and my buddies. Please keep us posted in your workouts, progress or anything you would like to share.
I don't know if you are interested but I count calories and try to stay under 1200.
GOODLUCK ALL!!!!!!!!
ok... so here is my starting weight:
september 8: 154lbs
goal weight: 135lbs
pounds to lose: 19lbs
i have decided sundays will be my weigh in!! i am trying to just lose the 4lbs by the 13th. it might sound extreme but i'm hoping it will just be water weight at this point. i have been really strict with my diet since yesterday...lots of veggies, protein, low fat dairy products and whole wheat carbs first thing in the morning. i am limiting my processed food intake as well. i am confident i can keep it up because i am determined to reach my goal by dec. 6.

Now you kids are making me wish I did have a scale, maybe would be good for me to see?? Well, I'm still wearing my size sixes, so I guess I'm doing OK :) Welcome newcomers! I am not much of a chocoholic, but I do like my carbs. I always eat 100% whole wheat, sometimes with flaxseeds, so that's good. Does anyone really eat white bread any more? I cannot! For my breakfast (which I think is an important meal) I eat whole wheat toast with peanut butter and Dannon plain, nonfat yogurt with a mashed banana in it. I tend to find something I like and stick with it forever. Then one day that's it, and I don't eat it anymore, or forever. Kinda weird, but I get stuck on certain things. Now this yougurt is pretty bitter alone, but it's kind of an acquired taste I think, and if I run out of bananas, I'll still eat it plain. Today I got some blueberries to try with it. I've got to have my peanut butter toast though! I used to eat it with blackberry jam too, but the sugar was too addictive for me. I also gave up cream in my coffee. Now that was EXTREMELY hard for me! It took me three tries (I don't mean three days either) then finally on the last try, and after three weeks, my coffee started to taste good to me again. Usually, I have a half tsp of sugar in it, since I gave up artificial sweetners for the most part. I probably said in an earlier post that when I stepped up my exercise from twenty (what was I thinking, come on) minutes to thirty, that made quite a difference after a while. Today I did my walk, and yesterday my bike, but anyway, I'm four for four this week so far. I want to get some 5 pound hand weights to replace my two two pound ones I use. I don't have the money right now to waste. I have some ten pound ones too. I hate those things, they're so clunky They're more like weapons! Wow, this is some long post, but these are a few things I try that worked for me. Happy weight loss everyone! It would be neat if we had a little exercise icon we could pick from below.
Hey everyone I am so glad to see we are all working hard and serious about this weight loss, because I don't know about you but I want to be able to say one day that I am genuninely comfortable and happy with my body, but who am I kidding of course we all want that. I have been doing really well with my workouts Today and yesterday were really good run days, I went about 30 minutes yesterday and 35 minutes today without stopping then finished it with a brisk 30 minute walk afterwards. Yesterday I did an abdominal workout for 20 minutes and some back exercises and I am kind of sore today, not immobilizing sore but sore nontheless. I am really excitied to see what my weigh in will be on Friday, but I know that no matter what it doesn't mean everything I am proud of myself. And I am proud of all of you!!!
I am really confident and excitied to say we CAN DO THIS!
Hello everyone! TOday, i decided it is time to start using weights in my workout routine. I will now workout my arms with free weights on mon, wed, and fri. I like toned arms and i want to get mine nice and firm. I did about an hour in the gym, mainly using free weights for my arms and did 15 minutes in the step machine. Blindsided, i have 5lbs weights if you want to borrow them..lol When i was pregnant i would use the one or two pound weights to walk and my husband would use the five pound ones, but we dont walk anymore so we dont use any of them! keep it up the good workouts!
Yes I'll borrow those and just do my exercise online, ha-ha. Well, five for five this week for me. Did my bike again and arm weights. As far as ever LIKING my body, no that will never happen for me, but I do accept it's not ever going to be even close to perfect. Well, it's the only body I've got, so I have to accept it, right? It's been through enough, so what can you do but accept it and just try to treat it better than before. Some of you may have grown up with poor body image too. One good thing, when you get older you worry less about what anyone thinks about you and how your body looks. So, I am trying to maintain the weight and exercise for me. Also with being older, it allows you to have a bit more compassion for yourself. This is a good thing and took a long time for me. You don't beat yourself up as badly I think, just get back on when you fall off :) :) :) I am very proud of us for trying to do this thing! Oh yeah, did I forget the slower metabolism when you get older? good thing even a little muscle building can burn more fuel!!!
Today was weight in and I lost 2.2 pounds this week. I worked out really hard and am excitied that it showed in my weigh in, because we all know that sometimes it doesn't. I am for the first time in a long time in the 130's and I am so excitied. It gives me a new push to really do this and really lose this weight and reach my final goal!
Starting weight- 158
new current weight- 139.4
I just can't even believe to see such a number, I have a no edge and kick to really do this furthur and put everything I have into it so I can reach my goal of 124 by November. I am sorry to brag or overreact I am just so excitied.
I hope everyone had a good week and has a good weekend ahead!!!....WE CAN DO THIS!

Welcome newcomers. The question was asked what was my total weight loss. When I gained the weight over a period of a couple years after the death of a family member, I topped out at 179 pounds. I initally weighed 132 pounds, so my goal has always been to get back to 132, which I have done. Now, I want to stay at 125-130 pounds. I don't have a scale, but weighed 133 the last time I weighed (3 pounds over what I want as maintenance). The lowest I have weighed is 126 since all of this happened, so my total weight loss from that point was 53 pounds. I generaly just figure from the initial weight of 132 from 179 (top weight), which is 47 pounds. Well, no matter how you figure it, it's still quite a bit of weight lost :) My biggest problem is the flab from the weight loss. Not a whole lot you can do about it at my age, except camouflage! Anyhow, I plan NOT to regain it, hence the exercise. Today I did some floor exercises, which were pretty hard on me since I was still sore from trying them the other day. Oh yeah, but I got through them! I set a timer for 30 minutes whatever exercise I do, except walking outside, because my walk takes me about 33-35 minutes, at a reasonable pace. I've already timed it. I also ride my exercise bike, especially to the news. I sit down and pedal, then stand up an pedal. Don't try this on some bikes! :) I've had a couple health issues and two surgeries since Nov '08. Hopefully I'm in for smooth sailing for awhile now, and my health seems good (knock on wood). Now, I just need to find a job!!!
