no job yet= lose weight time
okay like mostly everyone here i have been looking relentlessly for a rn job. i have been looking and sending applications everyday and don't have much to show for it. so this may be a little crazy, but i have decided to keep looking just as hard, but because i have nothing else to do..
started working out hard-core about a little over a week ago and getting my diet out of control. i have gained a lot more weight than i wanted to throughout nursing school with all the stress and i would love you now kick off the extra 20 pounds from nursing school and from even before that. what a better time to get in shape but now, when we have nothing else going on too crazy in our lives but looking for jobs.
then at least at the end of this mess we can have something to show for it. i might have been unemployed and struggling, but now i am lean, sexy and my thinest.
i was hoping we could use this thread to help encourage eachother, tell eachother what workouts we are doing, share successes, share food ideas, and talk about goals and results.
this may be kind of off topic for this forum, but i would love tons of buddies to keep us motivated and to share stories and results with...
i'll go first...
i weighed 158 when i started this workout and since looking for a job have dropped 3 pounds and try to workout everyday. i walk/ run and do a lot of pilates with exercise band. i am hoping to eventually get down to 124 maybe by november or december, but as long as it is healthy and consistent, i don't care when it comes off by.
i'll keep you posted:: i hope others will share with me too:bowingpur:bow:
Today I went to volunteer at my old high school field hockey team, it was so nice considering I just graduated college and was missing that team as well, so at least I am still field hockey involved. I worked alongside the girls, so I got an amazing workout in also.
Have no checked in...in a while with weight
starting weight-- 158
Current weight-- 144
so excitied!!....I CAN DO THIS!!
GOODLUCK all
K.Morris that sounds terrific! I got in six of seven last week, plus we got the three rooms painted on Saturday, and I finished the touch-ups today. Man,I would never paint for a living, but the rooms look sooo much better! I can go up and down the ladder fine, but the trim work around the bottom of the rooms really tortured my knees. We had a little rolling creeper cart,so that helped some. I did get in my exercise today too, so I'm off to a good start for this week. Everyone keep up the good work, there's a whole new week in front of us :)
Last night I went for a 30 minute run and a 15 minute walk during the day. I have not got my exercise in today yet, but I will dont you worry. I am so excitied to continue this weight loss. I have an interview at a community hospital about 45-50 minutes, but its for my dream job of pediatrics, I am so excitied and have been waiting for this oppurtunity forever, and almost don't believe it. Wish me luck!
Thanks I hope it all works out my interview is on Weds. But besides the job news I have been doing really well with working out again. I am back to 100% myself, besides the occasional foods that gets stuck behind where my wisdom teeth used to be...haha...But today I went for a 75 minute walk, not as fast pace as I would want because my mom and little sister went, but better than not getting out and moving. Then I came home and did 25 minutes of Jillian Micheals 30 day shed, and that mad eme sweat a lot!!!...But I am really hoping to see the scale move again this Friday for my weigh in day. It has been weird with the whole wisdom teeth situation, but I am back and ready to do this right and keep doing it. Hope everyone else is doing well too....please update us!
Thank you everyone for your support on my interview too, it means a lot to me and I will give it everything I got.
GO TEAM!!.....LET"S LOSE THIS WEIGHT AND DO IT THE RIGHT WAY!!
WE CAN DO THIS!
Today is Wed, so did you have your interview today or next Wed? today I went to my son and Dau-in-law's house to see my "grandkids" (actually dogs). I did the stairstepper for 30 min, so that was a nice break from my bike and walking, something different. Four for four so far. What plans do you have for weight management/maintenance after you're employed? That gets harder when you're working, but as long as you pick a reasonable program, it can be done! Reasonable for me is 30 minutes, working or not, ha-ha.
yeah my interview went very well, I looked very professional, answered all questions without flaw but didn't sound like I was reciting something prewritten either. I am pretty sure me and the nurse manager clicked, but I have to tell you that I was not happy with the hospital or the floor or anything she said about either of them. She told me that the floor had the lowest patient satisfaction rates in the whole hospital and the lowest employee satifsfaction rates in the whole hospital...um okay sweet I was thinking, no one wants to go here or work here. And the floor looked really messy and the nurses looked miserable. And then she explained the floor and the ratio's. She said usually 6:1 nurse, but has been known to go up to 10-13:1...Are you kidding me?..is this legal, I don't care how experienced or inexperiences you are, that is completely unsafe. And then when I met with the pay role/nurse recruiter afterwards to give her all of my information, she informed me that there is only one position available and that she is still really inbetween hiring a new grad and a experiences nurse because of how she is trying to turn around the floor into something a lot better. So its a weird feeling I would not be excitied if I got offered the job with a 4 week orientation, but I need a job, the only thing is that things are starting to open up around my house in a week or 2. So I mean what should I do if I am offered the job? Can I tell them I need a few days- 1 week to think about it? can you do that? or are you suppose to just take it on the spot? I have a few applications that I have faith in getting an interview with.
Oh yeah she also said she wants to write a mean letter to all corporations and nursing instructors that tell us that med-surg is a training ground or somewhere to get 1-2 years experience and leave. She says it is a speciality of its own and no one she call it the breeding ground for new grads. I don't I am just repeating sorry to vent I know I should be excitied about anything but its hard when its this bad.
I was told before it was a half pediatric floor but she also commented that people get so excitied when they hear that but we hardly get any pediatric patients and it bugs her when people think that and expect that. I am really frustrated now I really don't want this job, but want a job.
ANY SUGGESTTIONS???
Oh man. I just read your post, and this doesn't sound too good. I am sorry about your situation. I am much older than you, so have been in the position where I've taken jobs I was sorry about because they were disasters. Are you in a position to wait a little longer until you get other interviews? It sounds like you have a good instinct about this unit. I hate to steer you wrong, or away from this job, but encourage you to trust yourself to do what is right. That ratio sounds awful. I support you and hope you're able to make the choice either way without too much inner turmoil. Sounds like you did a great interview if nothing else. If she's trying to turn this unit around, which she may be, it may be the wrong economic climate for her to do so, I don't know. That is a bummer for sure. Keep me posted! I didn't get my exercise in today Tomorrow is another day for both of us!
Thanks yeah I haven't heard anything, which is probably better, but I think I am not going to take the job I keep contacting a local nurse recruiter and she told me to call her back sept 25th and she will see what she can do. I can wait another month or two if it means a better learning enviroment. Thanks so much....
Also in weight loss news I lost 2.8 pounds this week....
starting weight: 158
current weight: 141.6
I am so excitied to be so close to the 130's. We can all do this, so lets do it!!
I just lost what I posted Anyway, wanted to tell you I'm proud of how you're doing on your weight loss and exercise. I had the worst exercise week in the longest time. I only got three days in this week
I like to see way more stickers per week on my calendar. I did have the nicest day at the lake today visiting with my sis and bro-in-law. Beautiful weather for it too. Lets hope we find a suitable job soon, and also all others who are searching too :)

I'm four for four so far! I like cereal at night before bed sometimes. I never did like it for breakfast for some reason. Since I started on skim milk years ago, I CANNOT drink even 1% because I really can taste the fat, and it almost gags me. Yuk. I keep certain glasses in the freezer ready for my milk. I have to have it nice and cold! Goodnight now everyone.
