no job yet= lose weight time
okay like mostly everyone here i have been looking relentlessly for a rn job. i have been looking and sending applications everyday and don't have much to show for it. so this may be a little crazy, but i have decided to keep looking just as hard, but because i have nothing else to do..
started working out hard-core about a little over a week ago and getting my diet out of control. i have gained a lot more weight than i wanted to throughout nursing school with all the stress and i would love you now kick off the extra 20 pounds from nursing school and from even before that. what a better time to get in shape but now, when we have nothing else going on too crazy in our lives but looking for jobs.
then at least at the end of this mess we can have something to show for it. i might have been unemployed and struggling, but now i am lean, sexy and my thinest.
i was hoping we could use this thread to help encourage eachother, tell eachother what workouts we are doing, share successes, share food ideas, and talk about goals and results.
this may be kind of off topic for this forum, but i would love tons of buddies to keep us motivated and to share stories and results with...
i'll go first...
i weighed 158 when i started this workout and since looking for a job have dropped 3 pounds and try to workout everyday. i walk/ run and do a lot of pilates with exercise band. i am hoping to eventually get down to 124 maybe by november or december, but as long as it is healthy and consistent, i don't care when it comes off by.

You can easily achieved that goal! I too made that decision after graduating that I needed to get back into shape so Dec I was around 205 and five months later I got down to whopping 165lbs which is about the ideal weight for my frame. The key is you'd want to alternate your choice of exercise so that you don't get tired of the routine. I did it by exercise, biking, running, hiking, 1500 cal daily intake, no soda or anything with sugar drinks and a dash of divorce on the side:down::redbeathe.
I have achieved my goal already and what I found harder to do now is how to stop losing weight. Once you get used to eating like a mouse it's hard to force yourself to eat more. Good luck with your goal, you can do it!
If you hate running continuously like me read this interval training site which I believe did the trick for me.

I support you!! I have finally lost that extra weight, and now I'm trying to maintain it within a five pound limit either way. I don't go in for the too strenuous stuff for my taste, age and joints, but I've committed to 30 minutes at least 5 days per week, but many times get 6-7 days. This, coupled with reasonable diet control is working pretty well for me. Also, I don't beat myself up over lapses, just get back on the horse. I do exercise bike, walking and stair-stepper. I am looking for work also, but the market is bereft. Where I was working before, I tried to exercise by walking the unit, taking the stairs, etc. A couple places I use to work at, you could use the cardiac rehab room, which was totally cool. I loved to get my exercise in during a shift, then didn't have to worry about it afterward. I realize this is many times not possible, but you can usually find some way to get in extra steps. Good lusk with your job search and weight control/exercise.
Thanks I really hope I can, but just hearing some support once in a while makes it more real and more obtainable. I hope more people will join me, but I know this is not that kind of site. Good luck. I need to exercise and eat right more for health then for weight loss. I wouldn't mind loosing a few or at least not having to buy new clothes each season cause I grew out of them :) I think I am finally stopping that at least!
Sweet than we can do it together, we just need to share goals and how we get there and keep eachother motivated. I am in the same boat, I have no many clothes that I can't fit into anymore. Keep me posted, and thank you!

Hello all! I'm still a student, but I'm just completely upset with myself and my weight gain. I'm at a whopping 187lbs., which is very much overweight. About 1 month ago, I woke up, looked at myself in the mirror and decided that enough was enough and it was time to do something about all of this excess baggage. So....out came the Wii Fit that my hubby got me for Christmas (I asked for it, he didn't just buy it) and I've been doing 30-40 minutes 5-6 days a week. I've only lost about 4-5 lbs, but it's something. We also go biking a lot with the kids, so I'm sure that is helping.
I'm trying to watch what I eat as well....less crappy food, more fresh fruits & veggies and food that is healthy for me. The only glitch is that the more active I get, the more hungry I get, which I know is normal, but still seems like some sort of cruel joke!
I'm in for the thread if you guys will have me....since I'm still a student.
Yeah sounds awesome sh1901 we can all do this together. I do not know if you have ever heard of sparkpeople.com, but it is completely free and you can get access to tons of free workout videos, keep tabs on what you eat and how much you burn. I just would love to keep this thread going to remind us all that we need to stay on track. I actually just got back from a nice long bike-ride and I feel great. I am so excitied to see people's support in this different kind of thread. I really believe we can all get healthy and do this once and for all, we just need so encouragement and buddies. Yeah, I topped out at just under 180 lbs., which is way over the limit for my height and frame. I weigh about 131-132 now. I don't have a scale, but weigh occasionally at my son's house. My goal is to stay within 125-130 lbs., so I'm a little over, but I know why! Lately I've been into pecan mudslides at the DQ, and the occasional jelly donut, but I have to stop that, because my sister is coming next week, and I have to be an example for her, because I have inspired her. Plus, she's doing pretty well on her 1500 calorie counts and stepping up her exercise some. I believe she's lost 7-10 lbs so far. She's a hoot, cause she's been through many different pieces of exercise equipment, including Wii. She also has an exercise bile, and a treadmill, and likes to walk outside. Oh, one thing I do that really helps is to put a little sticker on the calendar every time I finish exercising. They add up and make you happy to see your progress. My dau-in-law recently did her first triathlon. She wanted to finish under 2 hr., and her "dream" was to finish under 1:45, which she did. Something cute was her lipstick managed to stay on the whole time, even through the swim! Amazing!
Ohh! The sticker idea is cool! It makes it look more...flashy! I don't know bad word but that's what came to mind first. It's a good thing ha.
That is a very good idea, I track my exercise on a website that tracks what you eat, how much you exercise and give you a lot of tips and videos, but I also love the sticker idea. How did you lose so much weight going from 180-130? that is amazing and I am very jealous...haha....please share with us...CONGRATS!!!!!.....I would love to be 130...but I know once I get there, if I get there, everything won't be perfect. But one can hope. Please share...
Well in 2001 we lost a loved one, and gained slowly after that. I weighed 132 at the time. My sister went to hell in a handbasket also. Previous to this happening, I never really struggled with my weight, and in fact, took a lot of flak from co-workers for eating healthy, and exercising. When I made a decision to stop the madness, I lost 25 lbs fairly quickly, but then played around with the rest of the weight for a few years, losing and gaining the same 5 lbs or so. Finally, I just thought it was stupid what I was doing, and decided to take off the rest, and did so by eating smarter, and exercising more. When I first gained all that weight, I also stopped exercising, and just ate any dumb thing I wanted. Well, that didn't work of course, and I just went up and up. Now, I am back in my size sixes, and all my "fat clothes" went to the Goodwill. So I don't think there's a whole lot to be done with the jiggles that I am left with, except camouflage! I sure wish I had never gained the weight, but I did, so I can't beat myself up about that. And even before I gained I never liked my body, ever! So now, I still don't like it, but I am proud to have taken it off, and plan to keep it off. There just is no other way except smarter eating and exercise. In my sister's case, she has done the yo-yo thing a lot, always picking a new reason (usually a vacation)to take it back off. She would always put it back on, and has worked sedentary jobs. So, I'm hoping what she's doing now will actually be a lifestyle change, and she can stick with it. She just sent me a bunch of new stickers too! I ran out of the smiley ones, and was using some lame ones I had around, just to save money. I have saved my calendars for years, so can look back and see how I've done by the stickers. Sometimes if I'm feeling like a real slug, I'll put the sticker on first, so than I have to do my 30 minutes! I'm on the honor system, even if I would just be lying to myself, I cant do it. If the sticker goes up, the exercise follows! My friend has an eliptical machine that I covet. I would really like to have one some day!
