no job yet= lose weight time
okay like mostly everyone here i have been looking relentlessly for a rn job. i have been looking and sending applications everyday and don't have much to show for it. so this may be a little crazy, but i have decided to keep looking just as hard, but because i have nothing else to do..
started working out hard-core about a little over a week ago and getting my diet out of control. i have gained a lot more weight than i wanted to throughout nursing school with all the stress and i would love you now kick off the extra 20 pounds from nursing school and from even before that. what a better time to get in shape but now, when we have nothing else going on too crazy in our lives but looking for jobs.
then at least at the end of this mess we can have something to show for it. i might have been unemployed and struggling, but now i am lean, sexy and my thinest.
i was hoping we could use this thread to help encourage eachother, tell eachother what workouts we are doing, share successes, share food ideas, and talk about goals and results.
this may be kind of off topic for this forum, but i would love tons of buddies to keep us motivated and to share stories and results with...
i'll go first...
i weighed 158 when i started this workout and since looking for a job have dropped 3 pounds and try to workout everyday. i walk/ run and do a lot of pilates with exercise band. i am hoping to eventually get down to 124 maybe by november or december, but as long as it is healthy and consistent, i don't care when it comes off by.
i'll keep you posted:: i hope others will share with me too:bowingpur:bow:
Of course you can stay in this thread....it is for everyone looking for the same goals. Friday is my weigh in day and I am excitied to see how much as came off this week. I am worked very hard and haven't given myself a day off recently, but it actually feels great. Today I ran/walk mostly ran 45 mins and do 45 mins a pilates. I am so excitied to reach my goals and everything that comes along with that along the way. Keep up the good work!!!!!!
Love this thread!!! Thank you OP! I am currently only employed 24 hours/week and have used my spare time to train for my first ever triathlon, which is coming up in September. An FYI for fellow nurses who are feeling the crunch of the job market - I don't know if this is across the board, but my YMCA here in NH is offering free summer memberships for those who have lost their jobs. Thought that was a nice tidbit that fit in well with this thread. Way to go everyone! Keep pushing!
Hey guyz,.. I love this thread. So my story goes a lil like....
I was overweight probably since elementary,.. i had no idea about diet and I even remember eating 4 honey buns as a snack (1600 cals!!). My highest weight was around 195 and I was 5'7. Throughout high school and college I have tried to lose the weight with up and down succuss,.. however for the most start my average weight stays at 155,.. my lowest that I've been recently was 143, and when I was stressed in school I got back up to 170.
so now i'm 150 and 5'7,... my eating pattern from when I was 195 has changed completely and I actually feel like its impossible for me to get that large again cuz I just can't eat the things and the amound that I use to without getting sick. My goal is to get to my ideal weight of 135 and I would like to lose a good portion of this before I start working,.. hopefully in September :) I want to have a really healthy eating pattern before I go on the floors where fast food and cakes and cookies pile up all over the place while people around me are dying of heart disease
Instead of obsessing over the pounds,.. I use to weigh in every day and just go mad with myself ,.. I started training for a half marathon so that I can concentrate on working out and eating right to increase performance.
good luck everyone!
Thats awesome a half marathon is a great way to get in shape and I know you can reach that goal by training hard for this. Me and you are in the same situationish with our current and goal weights, and I know we can do this. Keep up the good work and try not to to obsess or stress too much, just do it and keep doing it and it will come. I am so excitied for all of us, we can do this!!!:pumpiron::pumpiron::anpom::anpom:
Well, I've been in an Accelerated BSN Program for the last year (graduate next Friday!!!) and I have gained at least 60 pounds this year. I am a little over 300 lbs. GRRRR.... Anyways, now that I have a LOT more spare time, I plan on doing something about it!
My goal is to eventually get down to 150 (I'm 5'8). I need to lose half myself!
There's a duck pond with a walking path and a track less than a block from my house. Here I come!!! :)
Thats an awesome start. I have read many articles that focus on walking away the pounds on an excellent weight loss aid. This is an amazing place to start and I know you will see results. I know I keep saying this but check out sparkpeople.com I love the site and it really has helped me lose weight and stick with it, and helps with eating habits too. If you want to do this you def can, I will be here for you too...GOODLUCK AND CONRATS on making the first leap.
Hey everybody! Haven't posted for a few days, but did get in my exercise six out of seven last week. On the seventh day I walked about forever at our town festival, but I don't put the sticker up unless it's 30 minutes sustained, no starting and stopping. I'm off to a good start this week too. It was such a beautiful summer walk today, no humidity. When I do my walk, I pass a church with several steps that I walk up and down twice as part of my walk. Every little bit helps! great going everyone.

I love this site!
Ok, now to the topic at hand. I was going to stress out this summer by reading for next semester, doing drug cards and reviewing practice test questions. Yes, I know that this is important. Well, I have modified this objective. After a hectic year of clinicals; I have decided to put myself on the "to do list", and joined Weight Watchers and exercise on a regular basis. Even though I still plan on reviewing practice test questions and doing my drug cards, I feel great. This will make me a better SN and ultimately a better nurse!
