Night Shift Snack

Published

Hey all!

Just at work on nights right now, and was wondering what are your favourite night shift snakcs!

Almonds (they have honey cinnamon coated at Target that satisfy the sweet tooth), cheese strings, pistachios, pretzels, yogurt, Fig Newtons, grapes, hummus and crackers, iced citrus green tea (Lipton).

I love hummus but had it once during a night shift and will not do it again :nailbiting:

I'm with you JBudd!!! The more tired I am the more junk food I eat.. :-/ I actually ate a 6 pack of glazer donuts on my own one NOC!! Let me tell you, I had one heck of a stomachache that morning!

Usually I will have a bowl of cereal or oatmeal or a small salad around 0300. And I'll snack on some cookies from 2200-0300. I am adddicted to cherry coke and will drink a 16 oz bottle during the shift.

If I had access to juice I would drink that instead. I don't like water so it's rare I drink it.

I guess it's the same everywhere. At least here we always have chocolate and all kinds if junk food laying around for everybody to eat. Never if I bring my own food to work I can barely stand eating that bad stuff. We even have a pizza oven in our staff lounge that will bake a pizza in under 4 minutes. The fact that it is done that fast pretty much tells you it's no good for your body. I never eat as much as I do during night shifts. It's just horrible

LOL! Think I know where you're going w/ that one ?....

I love a new nurse every now and then, but they are getting harder to find.

I like salted almonds, yogurt, triscuits and cheese. Basically anything I can eat a few of, stop and come back to later.

I bring microwave soups. The Campell's chunky ones are not the most healthy, but they can usually get me through a shift because they are filling. The Kickin' Buffalo-Style Chicken, Hearty Cheeseburger, and Grilled Chicken and Sausage Gumbo are my favorites.

I wish I could drink more water - I always forget to bring bottled water and the hospital water tastes awful without ice in it, but it's so cold on my floor that I am literally shivering at least part of every shift no matter how many thermostats I adjust, so anything colder than room temp is a no go just because I will shiver even harder. I make myself cups of hot tea or coffee if I am going to drink anything just so it will be warm. I can't do anything that has to be refrigerated and not reheated for the same reason as the no ice water, so any cold snacks like fruit out of the fridge, cottage cheese, carrots, yogurt, etc. I am not trying to make myself miserable!

Everyone on my floor orders a lot so I give into temptation a lot too - Jimmy John's, Dominos, Papa John's, local Chinese places...

Grapes with baby bel cheese .... Chia seeds in yogurt

Lets see... Many times someone makes a Sheetz run for junky, fried foods but...

I take breakfast bowls, breakfast sandwiches, left overs, basically anything I will eat when I am on 3-11. Sometimes I just eat cottage cheese and fruit.
