News Flash Everybody Farts!

Published

I have read a couple of posts lately where people are complaining about people farting breaking wind, passing gas etc...

What exactly is the big deal? The average person farts 14 to 20 times a day and if you say you don't fart you're either lying or you are an alien species.

Yes it can be gross and smell bad but it's like poop it just happens sometimes.

Hppy

Hello, I have same problem. I work in OR. With no warning it has ripped right in front of staff, even Surgeons. Can u imagine? The most horrifyingly embarrassing moments of my life! I was new in OR from being floor nurse and quickly got labeled 'hottest nurse in the house' (have always got attention).. Then, THIS! HA-HA... OOOPS. I find dairy a total no go... But so many other foods.. Veggies...hell, everything. Maybe I need to experiment with Ginger ale, etc.. I live on Gas-ex. In 4 + years I've heard my partner (boyfriend I love with) fart TWICE, maybe 3 times... Me? ABC once an hour and alle time on the pot. I'm only 44!!! Yikes in doomed.

Well, the poster didn't answer my first question, so I thought maybe he/she needed a little help with the process.

Thank you! I have IBS so this is a problem for me.

Last year, when I was fairly new on my unit, I was called into my managers office to discuss a couple of "problems". One was legit (I left a bad of IV ABX clamped so patient didn't get them. I have not done that since). The other was my gas problem. My manager turned bright red when he addressed it. Apparently a day shift nurse complained that I had issues with gas. I said I have IBS (I do) and that was it. But still, complaining to the manager because someone farts? Really?

I hate to be contrary, but I get very annoyed when someone passes gas. It's a really gross feeling to walk into a room or area and smell the contents of someone's intestines. It can cause people to lose their lunch, lose their temper, or just ruin an already bad day. More than that, it's just tasteless.

Also, there is no reason to talk about it openly. I once worked with a girl who said she didn't like to have BMs at work because the bathroom was scary, so she'd spent her whole drive home from work farting in her corificeat nonstop. I don't understand why people think its prudent to share these things at work.

If you're having problems with IBS or gas or constipation or whatever, you can certainly carry potpourri in your pockets in order to remedy the issue. Many, many old people carry potpourri in their pockets in order to improve how they smell and its a viable alternative for nurses in this thread who have issues with gas.

There are too many really serious problems in this world to get your undies in a bunch over some people having a giggle over farts.
