I'm a Nursing student from Cali, and I feel absolutely TRAPPED when I think of being confined to a traditional, conventional dress code with "No unnatural colors". Its a new world people! WTHeck?! Gay marriage is legal and our last President was African American! Lighten up! The results of the hair color poll on this page almost gave me a heart attack! Almost 60% of Nurses don't feel the plight of the free spirited Nurse?!? Is this job going to be complete hell?? I understand that no atrocious piercings or inappropriate tattoos showing in the workplace is required, but I liken it to hiding my sexual orientation in public. I just want to be "Me"! Not strip tease in the hallway and make out with my gay lover! Btw, I am not actually gay.

Abusing another person is NEVER ACCEPTABLE!! I'm still a Nursing Student, but this is the first time I've ever heard the term "Lateral violence"! Defusing lateral violence and abuse - American Nurse Today Renee asks her mentor, Susan, a question. Susan puts her hand near Renee's face, gesturing for her to "Stop," and says in a loud voice, "I told you the answer to that this morning. Why are you bothering me again?" You're working your shift with Amy, who's in charge of the unit. She refuses to have a meaningful conversation with you, and ignores you or sighs impatiently when you try to share patient information with her. These examples reflect lateral (horizontal) violence or abuse in the workplace, defined as violence or abuse occurring between workers. It includes both overt and covert acts of verbal and nonverbal aggression. Chances are you've experienced or witnessed disruptive or inappropriate behavior by a peer or colleague. Intimidation, bullying, insults, humiliation, gossip, constant criticism, and angry outbursts are a few examples. More subtle examples include favoritism, unfair work assignments, inappropriate or unfair evaluations, sarcasm, snide comments, withholding information, holding a grudge, and belittling gestures. Lateral violence in any form feels bad. It creates fear—and fear causes you to shrink and hold back from being your best. You can't be productive in a fearful environment. Instead, you may feel violated, anxious, stressed, disrespected, and angry. A response of silence or ignoring the offender is common, but not ideal. Here are some better strategies.

@Scroll89: I know this isn't relevant to the post, but... Thank you for not giving this guy the third degree! After I responded to this person's thread, I read a few other responses from people (I assume) are female. They seemed more intent on being condescending and judgmental rather than actually respond back with an answer that may help or clarify this person's problem. I think I read about 5 posts in a row before someone actually said something non-judgmental and helpful. Sorry all you other negative users! It seems like a lot of people take things too personally, want to jump down people's throats when given the chance, and are overly patronizing. I thought nursing was about providing sincere care and teamwork in the work place! This guy let it be public his insecurities, and everyone just tore him apart! OMG. Please don't take offense to this post, either!

Hi Sykadia. I wanted to give you some feedback as a nursing student and straight female. I'm not sure if all female nurses feel this way, but I think many female nurses choose nursing as a profession because there is a part of them that finds caring for and helping others satisfying. And there's also the appeal of making some steady cash. So if think that being a fellow nurse, whether straight or gay male, there'd be some commonalities between you and your female counterparts. The attraction between you and potential mates may lie in that you are more sensitive than others, which MANY women may find attractive, and also that you're financially stable, which is a must for most professionally successful women. The fact you also listen to "harder music" is just a unique facet of your personality, and works to enhance your masculinity (in my opinion). I've noticed sensitivity is a must for those in the medical field, so if I were you, I wouldn't worry. Best of luck finding a GF!

I'm a Concord campus student for the Pre-Licensure FALL2016 Quarter. Has anyone addressed the new requirement via Castlebranch? It's asking us to upload more TB Docs, as well as Hepatitus C Titer docs, depending on what Clinical Site you are assigned to. I was under the impression that Concord Students didn't have to do the N95 Masks, but this requirement on Castlebranch (directly below the Sigma Theta Tau consent form) is asking us for these things. Has anyone received an email regarding any of the topics I've covered above? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone accepted into CSUEB Concord campus! I was wondering if any female students would want to get a 1 bedroom apartment and split it for FALL/WINTER2016, SPRING2017 quarters? I'd like to pay a little less, so I'd live in the living room while the room would be taken by you! My budget is $450-$480. Anyone interested?

You guys got your acceptance letters this morning? I checked my Application Status but nothing has changed... do you know whether they're sending all Acceptance letters today? Or that may send the letters throughout the day?

I've also been waiting all day. I'm guessing the acceptance emails won't be sent out after the Nursing Department office closes. But, we'll see!

@EjCortes: Hey Ejcortes, I wanted to write a post for you regarding my counselor's appointment with Pam Muckenfuss. Here's a quick list of what we went over. She DOES NOT go over the actual application packet with you, but she will ask you a number of questions to make sure you've completed the application correctly. 1. Make sure to list all repeats, even if you only have 1 repeat. Caution, even if you don't lose any repeats for less than 2 W, D, F, or I, you must list the repeat or you will most likely be disqualified. (I found this out myself, and so will not be expecting to see any of you FALL2016 semester). 2. Make sure you list the cover pages for the exact year you took your courses. Pam suggested going to the library and going through the catalog archives for each college. 3. Include all official documents like transcripts. That was all we went over before I left. After I got the bad news about the disqualification, I was so shocked I just left shortly after. Anyhow, good luck to all the rest of you!
