Hi , Im A Newly Graduated / Licensed Vocational Nurse Located In Victorville CA .
I Graduated In February && Passed My Boards On The 5th Of July , My First Time :)
Woooohoooo .!
After 2 Years Of Brutal Schooling , ( 1 Year At Four D College - CLOSED DOWN && One Year At American Career College ) Ive Been Actively And Impatiently Searching Online For Any Job I Could Find , My Student Loans Are Due In August ( From Both Schools ) , && Ive Already Deferred Them Once . Im In Desperate Need Of A Job Regardless Of The Pay At This Point But It Seems Like Jobs Are So Scarce In My Area . Theres Multiple Places Hiring Where Im At But They All Seem To Want A Minimum 1 Year Experience . Which I Dont Have .! Only Clinical Experience . && If I Want To Apply For More Jobs Id Have To Choose Jobs That Require Me To Travel 30+ Minutes One Way Which Is What I Dreaded Doing To Go To School In The First Place. I Dont Regret Going To Nursing School , I Enjoy What Ive Studied But I Feel Like I Could Have Gotten A Simple Medical Assistant Degree With Half The Time && Work Almost Everywhere . Its Just So Sad . I Dont Know What To Do Anymore . I Need A Blessing . What Should I Do . What Do My Fellow Nurses Suggest .?
Okay so I'll attempt to be more helpful and a little more patient. Judging from your post I'm going to venture and say you must be under 28 lol. First of all most jobs require a commute, especially if you live in an area where jobs or scarce. I commuted 100 miles a day for over 6 years. That being said traveling 30 minutes out of your comfort zone is very much the norm. To most of us 30 minutes is nothing. That being said if you want to work you will drive no way around it. In terms of your loans either defer due to economic hardship or forebear. Again not a "national emergency." Additionally, it seems that the jobs are there they just don't seem to be what you desire or want. The name of the game is take what you can get until you have experience which will require you to be uncomfortable for about 6 months to a year. You truly need to breathe and be realistic with yourself as well as your expectations. I'll start LVN school in January which is an hour and half commute each way. Likely when I graduate I will take a very unideal job to gain experience. Until I've paid my dues.... it won't be glamorous , it won't be easy, however at the end of it all it is a stepping stone to get where I want to go. Please work on calming your energy and your nerves. They come across as a blazing red flag. Mantra: I will find something, I will get through this, I can do this. And if you find that the LVN isnt working for you then compete for MA jobs...so what you're still a nurse at the end of the day. And experience is experience. Own it!
What Do My Fellow Nurses Suggest .?
Stop capitalizing the first letter of every word and use apostrophes where they belong, such as in the word "don't". You seem to struggle with written language. If I received an application with this kind of grammar/punctuation, it would immediately go in the circular file.
To be fair, some peoples' computer word processing systems are formatted to automatically capitalize the first letter of every word. However, this setup can easily be changed back to the "correct" format.Stop capitalizing the first letter of every word and use apostrophes where they belong, such as in the word "don't".
As I recall, the LVN I was told about who commuted from Victorville to southern LA proper to work in extended care home health was earning $21 an hour, but that was only because she held a special status with the employer. Other LVNs in the general area are lucky to get $16 or $17 an hour, but only IF they can get a job at all. When the minimum wage gets up to $15, it might just be more practical to take a MW job in Victorville, than to put that kind of wear and tear on a car as well as yourself, to be making little more than minimum wage. Unless, of course, you want to move, in order to compete for close to minimum wage jobs that will continue to be few and far between.
Hmm...just did a search using Indeed and had no problem finding an on-call LVN position at Spring Valley Post-Acute in Victorville. No experience necessary. Praise Be & Alleluia! Of course, 10 people've already applied for the position...
Other than that, you've got the alternative solution of driving up & down Cajon Pass into the Inland Empire where the jobs are just like everyone else in the High Desert. Your call.

P.S. - Just a wild guess, but American Career College didn't cover job searching in their VN curriculum, did they? Makes me glad I opted for a Community College VN program.
Hello,
I was in your same shoes approx two years ago when I was looking for an LVN position following being discharged from the military. I had received my LVN license by challenging the CA LVN board based on my military experience working on med surg and L&D floors, so no school for me. I was dead set on getting a job at the Sacramento VA and after my application was denied the first time, I readjusted my resume and landed the job the second time approx 6 months later. With that said, I did try my hand on sites such as Craigslist while waiting between job openings and I recall having no problems getting not only a face to face interview but also phone interviews for skilled nursing facilities and home health with or without experience. I live in Sacramento so I don't know if geographical location makes a difference but if I were you and you have to get in somewhere, focus heavily on skilled nursing and home healthcare. The whole one year experience requirement might be the dagger that's adversely affecting you. But I agree with others on this post that if the only thing you can find is something 30 min away, then you gotta do what you gotta do. It took me about 45min to drive to work before I ended up moving across the street from the VA. My recommendation when non nursing staff ask me if they should go to school to get their lvn license, I tell them no and just focus on the RN degree because private schools are too expensive and now their are whole bunch of unemployed LVNs that graduated from undesirable private for profit schools. Now almost exactly two years later I finished up all pre reqs for RN school and will be starting a 16 month BSN program in Nevada which means I will have my BSN before 30. So just look at the big picture and how a job is going to get you to your ultimate goal.
I don't understand the drama or the attitude stemming from you. I work 45 mins from home, in a Tech position while upgrading my RPN to RN. I took a position not working as a nurse, in order to make sure I have a work environment to help me with my education. There are jobs out there, but you have to be willing to work. You saying you don't want to travel 30 mins, implies you aren't really trying here.
Secondly, your attitude to responses here is on the defense. Listen to your peers. Lose the funky font and take their advice. If you are like this here with professional peers, you may be giving off attitude in real world and not even knowing it. So my advice, take a deep breath and reevaluate your situation. What is holding you back right now? I am going to go on the hunch and say you are being your own worst enemy. The vibe we are getting from you, isn't professional. You might not even be aware of how you are coming across, which could be what is stopping you from being hired. Look beyond that 30 min circle you have kept yourself in, and you just might find what you need.
We'll knock it off. Who EVER told you that was proper written usage to capitalize every stinking word?! Between that and your drama overload, I wish you luck in securing a job anywhere!
The CAPS Is Just Something I Use Online , Its Fine . && If It Comes Down To It I Will Apply For Places That Require Me To Travel But I Will First I Will Have To Exhaust ALL Options . I Do Plan On Going Back To School For My RN , Just Right Now I Dont Have The Time To Focus On That , Theres Alot Of Things I Have To Take Care Of That Doesnt Give Me 2 More Years + Of Schooling . && Travelling 30 + Minutes Everyday IS Life Altering For Me , Maybe Not At All For You . Btw I Wasnt Asking You Or Anyone Else On This Site To " Grant A Blessing " Its Just A Saying . . . . You Know When Someone Is In Need . I Dont Need You To Tell Me To Lose The Drama . Thank You .

and I'm doing you a favor by also telling you that it is very had to read your posts when every word is capitalized like that. I did it this time to give you the feedback you asked for but if you keep typing like that and you know it is confusing and hard to read I guess I won't be likely to read more of what you write. if you want help, you should help those who ask you to make your writing a little easier on the eyes!!
