coolnurses, please tell your friend to search the internet for agencies that sponsor nurses. I know someone who got through that way.

Greetings,
People that are native to the US seem to be having trouble finding jobs. That said, I have to believe that those from other countries seeking work here would have an even more difficult time.
Also, when you say undocumented, do you mean lacking the proper paperwork to come to the country?

If it is not impossible, then it should be. The unemployment rate in this country is approaching double digits, and some of those unemployed U.S. citizens are nurses.

She will really struggle as retrogression has been ongoing since Oct 06 and you need to be legal to be able to file. Your friend may have to consider leaving the US and start over and wait in the queue. If they are caught then they are looking at a ban varying from 3 years to 10 years. How old is your friend
Moving this to the International forum and may I ask members to refrain from the obvious as I have already posted they need to be legal to be able to stay

Quite apart from the visa issue, you generally need to provide SSN etc to the licensing authority as well.

You know, I don't want to be mean about this, but whatever country you came from would probably benefit from your skills more than the US would. Now is your chance to make a real difference!
Most of the people coming into this country illegally are leaving a desitute, corrupt country behind. One that desperately needs nurses and medical care in general.
The other thing they need are people who give a damn. Who actually care more about people than having a big house and a new car.

Given that there are thousands of US nurses as well as foreign nurses that have worked hard/waited long periods of time to go about this legally that do not have jobs....it is highly unlikely the she will find a job. And even less likely that she will keep it, as ICE has been cracking down, and much more likely that she will be deported and possibly banned from reentering the US.
There are plenty of shady operations around that may make her promises and possibly take her money but it still means that if it is not done LEGALLY, she will just be out of money and at risk.
She needs to do things LEGALLY. Nursing is not like picking fruit or being a temp laborer - nurses are tracked carefully and cannot hide their status easily.
And given that retrogression is in effect, that means a long wait, unless she is from a country covered by NAFTA. As she is a new grad, H1 permits are off limits.
