She said the best part of my interview is that I just had an outpouring of enthusiasm. She said it was a huge plus.

I DEFINITELY agree! I interviewed with SIX people in a rotating fashion (spent 15 minutes with each interviewer and was then passed on to the next..kinda like a assembly line:lol2:). Anyway, the last one sat and stared at me for about a minute and when I gave her a questioning look, she said she could not believe how enthusiastic I was and was trying to determine if it was REAL! :lol2: I told her, trust me..when I'm not passionate or enthusiastic about something, she would KNOW!

So, that is good advice! OOZE enthusiasm (but do not do it so that it really does seem fake). I know all of you are enthusiastic about nursing and working. Even if it's not your dream job, it is a JOB and show how passionate you are (not desperate) about the position.

My mom is a retired principal and she told me about this vice principal that always interviewed for principal positions. My mom thought she was an EXCELLENT administrator -- could really hold down a school..was a great leader..yadda yadda ya. But, she said in interviews, the VP had such a blase' attitude and showed NO enthusiasm. And guess what...she's still a VP, not able to work her full potential. And she won't until she shows more enthusiasm in the interviews.

I did a very daring thing...after I graduated I moved to Colorado (where I knew no one) from Arizona, where I did my schooling. I got married right after I took the NCLEX and my now husband lived in Colorado so now I am here! I knew the job market was tough but I tried to find any connections that I could. One of my dad's best friend's cousin's wife (its a mouth full) worked at a hospital in Northern colorado which is where I am living. I talked to her and she gave me some great contacts but there were no openings. I applied and applied for 3 months after I moved here and yes it was discouraging.

I decided to expand my search a little and look farther away. I called a Nurse recruiter at a hospital and she was super nice. I was really persistant with her calling and emailing her (not annoying though, I know it can be a fine line). She finally gave me a pre-screen interview and told me that she would talk to the Med/Tele directors and see if they need anyone. I called back in 2 days to see if she had any news and she did give them my information and were reviewing it. I crossed my fingers and said lots of prayers!

They called the next day to set up an interview! I went in with a portfolio of my resume, clinical evaluations, letter of recommendation, and gave it to them. I feel that if you make a connection with them, it really helps. I left feeling confident and worried at the same time because who knows who else they were looking at. About an hour later, the nurse recruiter called me and offered me the job!!!!

So if you are still looking, be persistant and prepared. I had many of my friends just go to the hospital and asked to speak to the nurse manager and got jobs just from that! Human Resources are a hurdle you have to get over or just go around it haha.

I thought finding a job would never happen at some point but right after I accepted the job, I got a call for an interview for a different job. So the jobs are out there you just have to make yourself stand out!

I'm pretty sure I just got a job offer at the same hospital!!!

Hi!

I just had to sign up and reply to this. I got a job offer to work on the Med/Tele floor at a Northern Colorado hospital. I am scheduled to start in July, and I couldn't be more excited! I was told that they would be hiring one other new grad.

Congratulations everyone! We have all worked so hard to make it this far!

I graduated in May, and I had a job lined up in March. About 75% of my graduating class of 68 have jobs, most with connections (worked as techs there, had an internship, etc). I am from central IL. I know up by Chicago it is almost impossible to get in as a new grad unless you did an internship at that hospital.

Very cool. I am out of town so I can't get in to do my background and occupational health check until next week. That is why I start the 27th. Since it's every other Monday. Anyway I did clinicals there a few times. It's a great hospital.

Started applying late January until May (60+ applications in the Houston area) with no call backs....until I got called from a hospital I didn't even knew existed lol. She saw my resume on Monster and wanted to possibly interview me. Graduated May 14th (a saturday) and interviewed the following Wednesday and offered a position into the ICU new grad program!!!! Out of all those applications I sent, I only got ONE call back for an interview (so I obviously had to bring my A game and nail it!) Even the hospital I worked at for 2 years as an intern didn't even hire me! I'm still in the Houston area, although I have to drive roughly 50 minutes each way....but I'm still so grateful and excited! Passed Nclex June 1st and Just finished orientation week! *I HIGHLY recommend putting a resume and cover letter on Monster!!!*

How are your prospects looking? Should we believe that healthcare is booming?

Healthcare booms with the rest of the economy...which is most definitely NOT booming.

I graduated in May and have some good prospects. 1. I just got a call for an interview for a Graduate Nurse Residency Program with a major hospital system, 2. the nursing supervisor where I was a Home Health Aide (another hospital system) is trying to create a new grad position for me, and 3. I could walk into any number of LTCs and smaller home health agencies in my area and walk out with a job for around 25-30 an hour.

I would love to get the Residency Program, but it is more a matter of finding the job I want than finding a job.

Good luck!

Working the night shift on Psych. I was here as an LPN for 2 1/2 years so I basicly got a promotion. It's only part time, so I also just got a job per diem in LTC. My classmates who want to work at the hospital we had our clinicals at are out of luck. Their apps were added to the pile of other apps.
