:roll So today I heard the funniest thing. I found out that LPN really doesn't mean Licensed Practical Nurse and that RN doesn't mean Registered Nurse.
I seems that LPN means "Lesser Paid Nurse" and RN means "Rich Nurse". Well, I know in some instances, if not all instances RNs are paid more, I'm sorry, I just died laughing when I heard this so I had to share. Well, if these meaning are true I guess I'm glad I'm in "Rich Nurse" school right now...

I'm glad to see that this is all in fun with most of us, but unfortunately there are those out there who take the humor as dead serious (as in those who would tell LPNs to go away because they wanted all RN staffs, and laid off all the LPNs in the hospital - don't laugh, it happened to me). I hope that, in the spirit of this thread, that we can all still get along.

Hello, this thread isn't meant to poke fun at anyone or to even be a debate. I'm an LPN currently and although some may think I'm lesser paid or "pretend" it doesn't bother me. We all know that it's all in fun right? And I hope no one gets offended. I'm sorry that you got laid off! That's definitely NOT funny. :stone
I am enjoying this thread, but some of the things that patients have the nerve to say to a nurse amazes me sometimes. I would never dream of being rude to an LPN or an RN or a CNA or who ever came in to care for me. I DO check what they are RN vs LPN vs etc but only because i am interested what different people are. other then that i would not even pay attention to that.

Well thats sad some patient would say that.. in regards to the little pretend nurse vs. the real nurse.... because I know in Nursing school I hung out with all the LPN bridge students and they taught me so much. I love the LPNs I have worked with and it is true some hospitals are trying to faze them out... not too smart or bright of the facilities I think...
Well I think when it comes right down to it I know when I am sick I want a nurse and I don't what Kind she is .... I just want one.... :blushkiss
well I heard they meant low paid nurse and Real Nurse. But some of the LPN's definitely get paid more than the RN's I have a best friend that started working and she makes 19.50 per hour RN new grad, I make 22.00 LPN six year experience and graduating with BSN 12/17/05. All the hospitals in my area have phased out the LPN's but it's okay we all work in clinics and in skilled nursing facilities now but that raise the pay scale at those jobs because they try to attract the RN's. Hey what ever works.
I had a patient tell me "don't send me a Little Pretend Nurse" send me a Real Nurse". sigh.
When I was a student nurse doing my clinicals at a pediatric hospital, I had a little four year old patient tell me that I was not a "wheel nurse" because I wore a white uniform and nursing cap. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: None of the pedi nurses wore such things...they all wore colorful cartoony tops and pants. :) From the mouths of babes! :rotfl:
