:roll So today I heard the funniest thing. I found out that LPN really doesn't mean Licensed Practical Nurse and that RN doesn't mean Registered Nurse.
I seems that LPN means "Lesser Paid Nurse" and RN means "Rich Nurse". Well, I know in some instances, if not all instances RNs are paid more, I'm sorry, I just died laughing when I heard this so I had to share. Well, if these meaning are true I guess I'm glad I'm in "Rich Nurse" school right now...

A couple of surgeons at work find it hilarious to refer to LPNs and Let's Play Nurses (ironically, it's the few that i wouldn't let touch me with a 10 ft. pole, since i've seen their skills).
I doubt they'd appreciate it if i refered to them as Moronic D******* for MD.
God help it if people spent more time on work, and less time finding ways to insult others to make themselves feel superior.
Ha Ha HA! Well, isn't that why we all went to nursing school, so that we would make sooo much money and be rich? When I passed my boards, I was told be all of my peers that I was officially now a "Real Nut".
That is what we called one another (all in fun) at my first job
RNs were Real Nuts
LPNs were Little PeaNuts
But everyone knew that we were still ALL A BUNCH OF NUTS!!
I was an LPN for 15 yrs in Florida and my last job there paid $22/hr then I moved to WV and realized that this state did not value LPN's and the scope of practice was extremely limited. I took a job in an LTC and my wage was $14/hr... SO, I went back to school and just graduate with my BSN... I Am an RN-BSN.... $30 grand in student loans later.... I am making $18.50/hr.... I don't think I am going to break even unless i move....
We all joke about real nurse and play nurse.....gotta have a sense of humor...
BUT.... my EX husband used to introduce me as " this is my wife, she's JUST a nurse" That really made me mad.... I now refer to him as " my old used to be"

Well, not that just does not always hold true... I know many a "lesser paid nurse" making FAR more per hour than this "rich nurse" right here.
Because depending on where they live, LPNs can be making quite a bit more than I'm making as an RN where I happen to live. Get what I mean?

This is very true here also. I was LPN for 4 years prior to getting my RN. I am making the same wages at this job now, as I made as LPN in 98. It depends on what area you want to work or where. RN's make $18 hr in dialysis here where as LPN can make $21-23 in LTC. So, there you go. Of course, an RN is going to make more in the same facility as the LPN, come on most RN's are 4 year, and what is LPN "I didn't hear ya" 1 year.
I was CNA first, and then an LPN and now RN , so if anyone knows I do. Did you know some CNA's depending on where they work make more than LPN's. In doctors office they will hire a LPN or CNA for the same position, so I've seen the ads in the paper, so does that mean there is no comparison between the two. RN's are the only ones who can supervise and delegate legally. So, if it bothers you about the humor go back to school for your RN! :)

Maybe you read the orginal note but surely you missed the point. Money was the reason she used humor to express her feeling on how she feels about the payscale! It was my suggestion if that bothered her that much she could go back to school.
I'm enjoying this thread as the point is coming across through humor. I hope it dosn't degrade to an LPN Vs RN attack thread. There have been too many of those. Keep the humor coming by rembering, we are ALL nurses. :)

Amen. A famous western philosopher said "A house divided can not stand." Besides I never hear my title after my name (lvn/sn) they usually say something else. btw, I've heard sn stands for silly nurse.
