New Meaning for LPN and RN (not a debate)

Published

:roll So today I heard the funniest thing. I found out that LPN really doesn't mean Licensed Practical Nurse and that RN doesn't mean Registered Nurse.

I seems that LPN means "Lesser Paid Nurse" and RN means "Rich Nurse". Well, I know in some instances, if not all instances RNs are paid more, I'm sorry, I just died laughing when I heard this so I had to share. Well, if these meaning are true I guess I'm glad I'm in "Rich Nurse" school right now...

Anyone else have any new meaning for LPN or RN?

Well, not that just does not always hold true... I know many a "lesser paid nurse" making FAR more per hour than this "rich nurse" right here.

Because depending on where they live, LPNs can be making quite a bit more than I'm making as an RN where I happen to live. Get what I mean?

Everything's relative.

Specializes in floor to ICU.

I am an LVN (in school for RN) and I always tease my co-workers when they have to do something for me that's out of my scope of practice. I tell them I need a Real Nurse (RN) to do the job.

Specializes in Med Surg, Post partum, peds, newborn nur.

I just started my 2nd year in nursing school (ADN) I joke with my family that I have my "R" right now, and I have to earn the "N" this year.

Yeah I know what you mean! Maybe the comment holds more true to where I live, cause LPNs (and I am one of them) are definitely lesser paid! :lol2:

:chuckle Cute ! I like that ! :D

I once had a pt say "I don't know what 'RN' really stands for but in your case, I think it stands for 'real nice'." I walked on air the whole rest of the nite!

One of the RNs I work with teases me that LPN stands for "Let's Play Nurse." I always counter with RN meaning "Really Nasty." It's all in fun and we both laugh about it...
