New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

uhmm.. can't seem to find bp in queensland.. any idea?

I refer you to this list. I cannot see anything about BP in Queensland either.

I would not rely on the health care facilities offering the bridging program if they have not given any dates yet for next year....times are tough and they do not have to use this system (having international brdiging program) to find nurses anymore.

Anyone that has an offer from healthcare provider I would suggest you grab it with both hands as the likelyhood of having a paid position afterwards would be high.

Those that do bridging courses from education institutions have to rely on 'networking' with the clinical placement that you placed.......if they are fully staffed then you will have to search along with all locals that are graduating at the end of this year to get a job somewhere else.

Hello guys, I just wanted to drop by on this thread & quickly share my experience with the nursing registration with AHPRA. Here are my observations/suggestions:

  • After your BP, if you're on a 456 and you extended your stay in Australia by lodging an application for tourist visa, the advantage of that is that you'll be able to follow up your registration with AHPRA. Although it will still take time to receive it. It can vary from 2 weeks to 2 months depending on how persistent you are & how fast you are in submitting additional documents (proof of identity, statutory declaration etc).

  • If you are on 456 multiple entry visa & went back home to your country to wait it out until you receive your registration...it's gonna take a longer time. Probably 3 months or until you get back to Australia to fulfill the other documents. The thing here is it's easier to follow up on your registration if your in Australia rather than if your in your own country.

  • Having said the above, there are advantages if you decide that to just extend your visa (to a tourist one) & be there to follow up your registration. You may receive your AHPRA registration faster, at the same time you can look for jobs & be physically present in Australia to go to the job interviews.

Hope that helps. As of the moment, looking for a job here is pretty tough. Hope I land a job ASAP. Thanks & good luck to everyone.

I REALLY appreciate this post. Thank you, imsodizzy.

Yes I am still here in the Phils. My priority is Mercy but their next intake will be on May 2011 yet. I hope to avail an earlier slot. What about VCHN, do you now if they still have an available slot, February perhaps? I am considering those schools whose clinical placement is near Melbourne since my bro lives there so I could save on fare and accommodation.

I welcome anybody's advice :)

The next intake for Mercy Health will be on february... You should submit your application now, cause they already sent an interview schedule for Feb intake..

VCHN, next intake will be on 03 January and I think every 3wks they run the course...

La Trobe, they are close. They will be open on 2013 but there are slots available cause some students coudn't come for January intake.

Alpine HEalth, intake will be on 17 January

Castlemaine Health, intake will be on 14 February

Deakin is on May

ACFE, 3rd week of Feb, May and August

Thanks Abhylicious, Salmonella, ceridwyn and to all those who share their opinions and processing timeframes..

i'm highly recommending ETEA

drednag, im curious. why etea?

i'm having a bit of a dilemma here, there is no bp available in queensland! it seems the only way is to contact the relevant institutions providing these courses, to make arrangements to complete any theory via distance education / online. I have searced through their websites but they dont offer it externally. Now i'm running out of options:( help anyone..

hi kye09! According to the AHPRA's list of Approved Program there is no BP available in Queensland... Can't you just take your BP in Victoria or NSW?

Thanks for your reply faveispink, actually the reason why i opted for qld is my relatives are there so in terms of accomodation etc, it could save me heaps. I wonder why qld does not offer this kind of program :uhoh3: Yeah your right i might as well take your advice (i have thought of that as well) if there's no other choice. Have you done yours?

i'm highly recommending ETEA

@ Drednag, welcome back. How did you go. Have you finished your BP? Have you also completed registration with Ahpra, if so how long did it take? Are you now in job hunting? Where did u have your clinical placement?

@rncoco and summer88

Im recommending ETEA because I went there for the BP and we really learned a lot. Plus, the educators have been very helpful.

summer88, yup, I finished my BP in November. Early exit. Had our clinicals at Kilmore. Still waiting for AHPRA, though. Im still job hunting. some of my classmates have been hired, though, even pending their AHPRA registration, but they have to get their license before they can commence work..hopefully we'd get our registration soon..all in all, it's been good.:yeah:
