New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

I just received my eligibility letter today! Praise God! Abhy I am still looking for BP schools.

Good on you... Congrats.. uhhmmm... are you still in the phils? what type of visa are you planning to apply?

If you will study in Deakin, La Trobe, Univ. of Ballarat student visa will do... but if u want to do ur BP in hospital like Mercy Health, Alpine Health, Castlemaine Health, schools like VCHN and ETEA your visa should be the 456...

I'm still hanging in the air.. I already received the offer letter from Castlemaine.. still have an interview tom. in VCHN then on 23 dec at Mercy Health... I prefer to study near to the city.. so I don't need to go to far far away land hehehehe...

weLL goodluck to both of us..!! cheers mate...

Congrats Salmonella!!! May I know for how many weeks/months did you wait for your eligibility letter? Perhaps, a time frame to share for everyone? Thanks.

Hi banchan.., just want to share.. It took 3mos. before I received the letter from AHPRA.. It came to my address exactly 3mos.. hehe..

Hi Abhy!

Thanks for sharing. Three months.. well that is fair enough considering the long waiting time of application in other countries e.g. Canada hehe. May I ask for how long is the validity of your eligibility letter? 2 years? If ever, that does mean that you must be enrolled in a BP program before that letter expires? How about your IELTS? For example your IELTS has expired already but your offer letter is still valid, will the BP schools still require you to have another IELTS? Another situation: After finishing your BP and your IELTS has expired already, will AHPRA still require you to retake prior to registration?

Sorry for asking too much. But I do appreciate if you reply. God bless in your interviews and BP school hunting! =)

yeah,, 3mos waiting is really fine :) before w/ the NBV my friend waited for 2mos.. but just wanna give some tip that when you submitted your papers make sure that it is complete coz you need to wait another 3mos if your papers isn't complete.. In the letter they will give you a timeframe of one year to do the BP. You also need to inform w/ your case manager where are you going to study. About the IELTS, copy paste from the letter... "Therefore, if your results expire while you are waiting to commence a course or during a course you will need to re-sit to ensure your results are valid to progress your registration"

That's okay, no worries.. Good luck with your application :)

Thanks...

Hello guys, I just wanted to drop by on this thread & quickly share my experience with the nursing registration with AHPRA. Here are my observations/suggestions:

  • After your BP, if you're on a 456 and you extended your stay in Australia by lodging an application for tourist visa, the advantage of that is that you'll be able to follow up your registration with AHPRA. Although it will still take time to receive it. It can vary from 2 weeks to 2 months depending on how persistent you are & how fast you are in submitting additional documents (proof of identity, statutory declaration etc).

  • If you are on 456 multiple entry visa & went back home to your country to wait it out until you receive your registration...it's gonna take a longer time. Probably 3 months or until you get back to Australia to fulfill the other documents. The thing here is it's easier to follow up on your registration if your in Australia rather than if your in your own country.

  • Having said the above, there are advantages if you decide that to just extend your visa (to a tourist one) & be there to follow up your registration. You may receive your AHPRA registration faster, at the same time you can look for jobs & be physically present in Australia to go to the job interviews.

Hope that helps. As of the moment, looking for a job here is pretty tough. Hope I land a job ASAP. Thanks & good luck to everyone.

Thanks a lot mikyong, aking skye, abhy and banchan!:)

Glad to share with you my time line:

Last week of April 2010 - arranged for my Certificate of Good Standing from PRC to be sent to NBV

1st week of May 2010 -sent my application for eligibility and all my documents to NBV

July 28 -received a letter from AHPRA together with returned documents from NBV, advicing me to reapply to AHPRA using the AGOS-04 form (application form)

August 5 - mailed to AHPRA a new application form with all the documents

August 7 - arranged for IELTS Tranfer Request Form (TRF) to be sent to AHPRA

November 17 - received a letter from my Registration Officer who requested for a Verification of License from California Board of Nursing but was waived later on after explaining that though I passed the NCLEX, I am not yet officially registered

December 8 - received my eligibility letter

Present -scouting for BP schools

Would anyone know the schedule of intakes of the different BP providers for 2011 and the location of Clinical practice? I hope that you could help me decide what BP school to enroll to. Thanks in advance!:)

Yes I am still here in the Phils. My priority is Mercy but their next intake will be on May 2011 yet. I hope to avail an earlier slot. What about VCHN, do you now if they still have an available slot, February perhaps? I am considering those schools whose clinical placement is near Melbourne since my bro lives there so I could save on fare and accommodation.

I welcome anybody's advice :)

wow! that is around 4 months of waiting time (excluding the nbv application). i am only on my 3rd month of waiting. i hope they give my eligibility/ pre-registration letter as my early christmas gift! *fingers crossed, remains positive*

anyway, this is an unofficial list of bridging schools and their respective schedules for the year 2011. i got the information either through their website or their replies to my e-mails. too bad i don't have the schedule for ub and vchn, 2 of the most common destinations for the bridging course in the state of victoria. i will try to update this list if i can. any corrections will definitely be appreciated.

i noticed that the name of the bridging course differs with each state, but will all of this lead to nursing registration and nursing license? please answer

important: who among here wants to do the bp in the college of nursing nsw? (the only school that provides the bp in the whole of nsw)

i have questions: since many are sending their ahpra applications and many are doing their bridging in victoria, would you still go for victoria? it could be that many are doing this because of the supply of bp schools in victoria. but is it better to do the bp in nsw? nsw is a bigger state than victoria. few do the bp in nsw since there is only one bp school there. there are fewer bp graduates and more health care institutions to apply after graduation. but maybe the disadvantage would be there is a lot of competition to get a bp slot in the college of nursing nsw.
