Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
hello guys! just want to share my experience. this is my first time to post though i have been following your threads from page 1. i applied for qld registration last october, and i was told recently that i am in the final stage of assessment. i guess it would be a merry christmas for me coz i don't have to or should not think about them throughout the holidays... i just got an email from ahpra qld saying "the nursing and midwifery board of queensland does not convene again until january 2011, so there will be no further information available to you regarding the status of your application until the end of january.."
anyone here on the same boat with me?
There is no Queensland registration board just an office for the Australian Health Practioners Regulation Authortiy that incorporates the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.National Registration began JUly 1, 2010, meaning, covers all states
Yep, they have holidays..
I understand that there is no more QNC nor is there a Queensland registration board?.. what I posted is an email I received and quoted from AHPRA QLD when I asked about my application through my registration assessment officer. I decided to post and share my experience as I was feeling impatient myself with the new scheme (probably like the others), but knowing that there was a reason for a long wait, I guess its time to sit back and relax for the holidays. I am just very much thankful for all who posted and shared their experiences! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!
OMG! Chatted with an old friend of mine who finished her BP last July. She still can't land on a job until now. Now I am getting scared!
people, this situation cannot be help. i hope we can discuss the matter for plan B in case we do not get a job after the BP. any suggestions, tips, advice?
it is pretty daunting.. we all hope for finding a job as soon as completingthe bp. did they tell her some reasons why she's not hired?
Yes, this has been said before, Australia is not in short supply of inexperienced nurses, Australian grads are now not being hired and quite frankly they are our future in nursing and must be hired before all others. This cannot be new news!
If you have experience in a specialty or quite a few years as a unit manager you have something to offer, but no experience is nothing to offer an employer in fact its asking an employer to actually give you something, thats why we have grad programs or lots of mentoring for nurses not in a grad program.
No job, no sponsor and you must go through ANMAC (once regisered with the Australian board) and apply through them as a fast track immigrant if you do not have permanent residence, then when a permanent resident, you can work casual or part-time (which most positions are these days), claim all government benefits, sponsor family, , this may be the only way of staying, and working legally, in the country and I would think an easier and quicker way than, getting sponsor, working two years then applying for permanent residence.
I often check out government websites for nursing positions. and live between the city and country....there are very few jobs anywhere even for experienced as well as the private sector.....there were some 1-2 positions available in a few country hospitals in NSW but they are now filled and heard new grads had come from the city to fill those. Also about 50 approx International nurses as these were also full-time positions but they took the locals. (this is usually is not seen, as international stick with the city) so it would be fair to say it is happening everywhere in this country, heard, Queensland is full, WA and SA and VIC
