New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

Cioman went through many, many months of trying to get work....he also did not have to do bridging program so therefore did not pay out thousands to do that....he also was not in Australia, paying out thousands just to survive, he also took a job in a nursing home way out in the country hours from the city.....these a few months ago were a bit easier to get, not now.....for goodness sake, I am telling you an alternative and all you guys do is talk about getting work with a sponsorship....this means you have to find a employer that cannot find a local that is offering full-time work........these are now rare..part -time work is available to those with experience through agency or a hospital nurse bank and are much easier to get...... nobody is going to post on here saying that with all the hard work and money they have invested they still have no work! saving face.

...this reasoning on Ciomans experience does not hold merit. I managed to get a cnc job last month..does that mean anyone else that wants to do that, should be able to do the same?

Merry and Safe Christmas to everyone as well.

can you please reiterate again what is the alternative you are suggesting to OS nurses? what is cnc? so there is still demand for the experienced? so what does an experienced nurse mean? 1 year, 2 years, 3 years and so on? is it possible for aliens to get a casual/part-time nursing job through agency?

I cannot see were paid experience is required, Fillipino nurses use their 'volunteer' experience in their applications to AHPRA, what makes ANMAC different? it does not say paid experience anywhere, just a record of service and a reference from and nurse unit manager or someone who can give a reference in authority. They need the same documents that are submitted to AHPRA.

All overseas students that study here must go through ANMAC for a permanent visa ' I know my cousin did a well with no experience. Its the assessment authority for the immigation department.I am sure that if you apply for permanent visa you must always go through ANMAC once you find a sponsor anyway, this is at an earlier stage.

and....NO under no circumstances can you stay and work casual or part-time without the proper visa that says you can. Remember border patrol.

Experience.......2 years on....yes that would be better though still difficult, critical care, emergency, mental health, midwifery(though Phillipino mid cert would not be accepted here at all). and nurses with in charge experience most work is still offered for.

I just got my AHPRA registration number yesterday. Im now in the Philippines for Christmas. I have more than 2 years nursing experience. However, I think Ceridwyn's suggestion makes a lot of sense..will try to consider this route also. Best of luck guys and gals! Happy holidays, everyone!

Ceridwyn can you give us more info about the ANMAC and the fast track immigration? This is the first time i've heard of it. Thanks!

What's New? Recent Changes in General Skilled Migration

Sorry was wrong, the immigrant changes have been made from 5 dec...a new points system.

The skilled state sponsored visas....victoria insists on 2 years experience, as for graduate visas victoria is only sponsoring 50 for registered nurses and 50 for registered midwives till July 2011. So coming to uni here for 2 years to do nursing will not guarantee a permanent visa now?

Go to this site above and see if you make the grade with is 65 points.

It was changed because people that were cooks/cleaners were getting higher poiints scores on old system than professional people.

As you can see you get more points if you have sponsorship etc. more points for high IELTS. etc. Your skill still needs to be on list but is not the end all. Experience does get you more points. If no experience, no sponsorship, I got an RN from the Phillipines up to 60 points, this is with the 5 points for a community language.

Though each individual could make it more.... It does seem experience is more valued in every professional occupation now and they ask for extensive experience I think 3 years in five years - for overseas experience and onlt one year australian in 2 years if applying for immigration and working here.

This need for experience has occurred because so many people were coming here and just studying anything so that they could get immigration....this practise seems to have now backfired on everyone else. T

this website has the new points system

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/points-fact.pdf

please note I am not an immigration skilled person at all and take no responsibility if I have understood this wrong. Though I think it is right.

freq questions: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/points-testfaq.pdf

yep, you will get extra 5 points for your language skills its in the community list here,Languages - Community Languages for bonus points www.australia-migration.com/page/Languages/59

I also checked out the sponsorship, must be a full-time job for at least 2 years not able to be filled by a citizen or permanent resident with an attestment from the employer that the non citizen is fully qualified to be in this position.

Not sure about community language anymore, says that you must have been instructed in this language at bachelor level at university.....are you taught in english or tagalog? with nursing and they just print the transcript in english? otherwise thats 5 points down.

Good news, if you apply before this date, and RN from the Phils with no experience and no sponsorship, but Australian nurses registration will have all the points they need 135 only need 125.

I am sure that the ANMAC does not require experience as requirement so they would ok to DIAC - immigration department that your quals are fine for skilled independent immigration - this is after getting Australian nursing registration with AHPRA.

After July 10 the new points system comes in and looks a bit glum for RN Independent immigration from the Phils with no experience and no sponsor. Its going to get tough as hospitals and community agencies ask for experience in specialities to even consider sponsorship.

Best to apply ASAP after BP while looking for a sponsor.

Just read the immigration website. Assuming that you are able to pass skill assessment by ANMAC with or without paid experience, if you are lodging an application prior to July 2011 changes, then you will still need to pass the basic eligibility requirements by Immigration. This includes the points test and some other basic requirements though you will not be awarded by points but still need to meet. And this includes recent work experience or 2 years australian study requirement. According to the website : and I quote;

Recent work experience requirement

To meet the recent work experience requirement, you must demonstrate that you have been employed:

  • in an occupation listed on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
  • for at least 20 hours a week
  • in a paid position
  • for at least 12 of the 24 months immediately before lodging your visa application.

This is where I got the info when I mentioned in my earlier post that you will need paid experience.

The pre july 2011 points test and requirements for PR application in AU can be read on the immigration website:

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/176/eligibility-applicant.htm

This is what I got from the immigration website, please do not quote me on this. I advise that you read the immigration website, if you are planning on applying for a PR visa. This is for your best interest. That is what I do myself. It is good to get ideas from others but make sure you verify all information provided. Aus immigration website is very comprehensive anyway and easy to navigate.

5 kudos to you summer!! I totally agree with you...getting PR is an option which one has to think and understand clearly since it entails a lot of money and effort, not only because you have to pay the fees but also because you need to accomplish the necessary and appropriate documents (and points) to satisfy the requirements set by the Australian Government...the best source to rely on is always the government agency that gives the rules...the website you've given is truly helpful! Thanks for your post!

so sorry only trying to help...was only looking at other options....as I see even the aged care organisations that have grad years or job openings are requesting all applicants already have work permits and are requesting not to apply if you do not,...will not suggest anything again....its seems Australia is no longer an easy destination for Filipino nurses or any other nurse with no experience and with the new points system, it will be even more difficult....

As for me, I try not to panic first because if experience is what they need, then I'll give it to them. Maybe not now but soon. My main goal is to get an OZ license and I'll start a new beginning from there.

Reality bites...Ceridwyn's thoughts are so true with regards to the difficulty of finding a job in Australia and the option of PR is a way out IF no sponsor surfaces...it's a good thing Ceridwyn started the discussion on it...Ceridwyn, don't be childish, I was touched by your current post, YOU are AMAZING and I truly appreciate your concern from the bottom (bottomless?) of my heart...hehe...just chatted with a friend of mine who graduated 2008, no nursing experience, went to Australia on a student visa, finished BP in Deakin last November 2010 while living with a friend and working in a grocery store, got AHPRA registered and is now talking about getting PR visa for Plan B in case she don't get hired in a nursing facility and get sponsored by January..she's still in Australia right now and is engaging in a competition to find a job..I was saying to myself, I should have her spirits (fighting spirit at that) if I would like to pursue this want to earn for a better living for my family..
