New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

so, it appears that although the boards have merged, there are still issues peculiar to one. the ahpra letter from victoria states and i quote, "a current list of approved bridging programs for overseas nurses can be found on the nmba website, www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au" and the last time i checked, the college of nursing in burwood, nsw is in the list. so that really confuses me. and, when i called ahpra they told me that the letter should be accepted in CON, when i told her that CON requests a recommendation letter, the lady was surprised as i was. i guess then, i would have to keep calling ahpra nsw so i get that "recommendation" thing. thanks miks :)

Hi liaa, try to send mikyong a private message becoz you both have the same situation, he is really keen on pursuing CoN too. CeridwenRN is bound for the April intake :) I'm taking mine on September pa but I need to have my Visa done before my IELTS expires on July :)

AHPRA's eligibility letter though stated that once registered, the nurse can work in any state/territories, but they weren't clear in their letter that the eligibility to take the bridging course can be anywhere. My letter specifically mentioned College of Nursing in Sydney and the referral letter was addressed to CoN as well. Goodluck, hope you can settle your matter soon :)

its a good thing that they do not specifically require IgG results for say varicella, and they would accept just a doctor's certification because serology can be very expensive. many thanks :)

vaccination card duly signed by the doctor (e.g. hepa B, Flu vaccine), certification signed by the doctor (e.g. you already had chickenpox), laboratory test result with certification of the doctor (you had hepa b antibodies, and no need for booster)..
hi again liaa, in the case of con, their website has the guide for the immunization, probably the rest of the schools would have similar ones, example:

diptheria, tetorifice, pertussis- one documented dose of adult dtpa vaccine

hepatitis b -[color=#ffffff]documented evidence of a completed, age appropriate, course of hepatitis b vaccine and documented evidence of anti-hbs ≥ 10mliu/ml; or documented evidence of past hepatitis b infection (anti-hbc).

measles, mumps, rubella - birth date before 1966: or documented evidence of 2 doses of mmr vaccine at least one month apart; or documented evidence of positive igg for measles, mumps and rubella

varicella - history of chickenpox, or documentation of physician-diagnosed shingles; or documented evidence of a positive varicella igg, or documented evidence of age appropriate varicella vaccination.

tuberculosis - all persons will need to have visited a local chest clinic to be screened for tb (to exclude active tb and establish baseline tb status) by local chest clinic/area health service accredited tst provider.

note: participants who have been tested in their country of origin prior to arrival to australia must have the evidence confirmed at an accredited tst provider.

hope this helps :)

where is an accredited tst provider in phil and oz?

hi everyone,

anyone here who went through 456 visa processing? or just anyone who can help me out with my queries...would appreciate ur responses.

has someone did the medical 3 months ahead of lodging in the visa application? will the doctor/institution send ur results to the embassy even you haven't lodged an application yet? im just baffled.

and is an interview a part of the 456 visa processing? sorry if it sounds like a silly question but i hope someone replies. thanks in advance. :)

just info tidbits...

NSW goverment nurses are demanding for a 1:4 ratio like Victoria has.. if approved or even if partially approved, it means new RN vacancies in NSW itself, estimated around 1,500 to 2000.. there are about 1,000 expected new Australian citizen RN graduates in NSW the end of this school year, and same 1,ooo in Queensland.. hope i remember the figures right..

the more hospital nurses, the better for me, coz i dont wanna go to the hospital, meaning i wont be kicked out from the nursing home because there are no more nurses left, silly me..

good luck to your applications.. gotta sleep, 7-3 shift me tomorrow..

I think this is the news my aunt was talking about. . . good on ya cioman, nice to know you're enjoying nursing home.

In the CoN website they gave this link for the list of accredited TST provider, but it doesn't seem to work, so just try perhaps to explore the site maybe its somewhere there :)

Copied from CoN website:

Further information, including details of Chest Clinics and accredited TST providers, is available at the following web site:

http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/ohs_vaccination/

I'll also search for it myself when I have time :)

prc said they wont be issuing any certificate aside good standing if you just recently passed the boards. they said good standing is already an evidence that one is registered as a professional in the philippines. :(

Sorry for the late reply for this. Certificate of good standing is already your verification of license also, the certificate contain the necessary statements to prove you are registered besides there won't be a certificate of good standing if you aren't registered with PRC right? When I submitted my docs last time, I only sent my Good Standing, Board Rating and a certified photocopy of my PRC I.D. and it was all good already:) I got my RN last 2009 but only received my Board Certificate yesterday! LoL

Can someone share their Statement of Service? Or even just the format. Any? *begging*

Thanks :)

Just thought I would mention that these ratios quoted are as for Victoria meaning Enrolled nurses are included in the 1 in 4 as well. They give meds and manage IV's same as RN's.

The Enrolled nurses group in NSW is also quoting how they may have more job openings in hospitals. The universities and Tafe colleges train a few hundred, I would guess a year. Doubt whether there will be massive job openings because of ratios for Rn's in NSW as it did not cause mass shortages in Victoria when ratios began. There are plenty of EN's to step into these positions and they cost a lot less to pay.

true.... EN cost less, even in some institutions (like ours) which offers scholarship to AINs/nursing assistants who are capable and willing to study as EN.. then they will be hired by the institution and cost less than RN.. and many of them have good "clinical eye" because of years of AIN experience.. i strongly rely on them, me being a neophyte RN...

there are always shifts (in our nursing home) where there is one RN and one EN on duty, which costs less as compared to 2 RNs on duty.. that's good business, less cost equals profits.. and said ENs are very good (better than me because of their long experience)..
