Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Thanks for the reply miks103 :) Has anyone finished their BP in La Trobe? If so, how was the accommodations? Cost?
La Trobe BP will be in the Bendigo Campus an hour or 2 drive from city of Melbourne, try to Google the place and start searching from there..
By the way Melbourne is not pronounce as mel-born but its mel-burn and Brisbane is not bris-bayn but bris-bin..
Immunization (previous and recent) records.. If you were a fully-immunized baby and still have your baby book that would be a good proof.. You could also run some test like for HepaB (HBsAb), mantoux test for TB and other blood test to check if you have active and enough antibodies coz if not then you might need booster shots or worse have yourself fully-immunized all over again..
I forgot to add that all schools, training providers and some employers will need proof of immunization since part of the BP is the clinical placement where we will be exposed in their local hospitals or nursing home.. So just to be on the safer side, better have your immunization records ready before you leave Philippines..
This topic was also previously discussed in the early pages of this forum..
hi everyone. i am in the process of finding a school where i can do my bp. my ahpra eligibility letter was issued by the office in victoria and from what i and everyone else understood, i can apply to anywhere in australia as all the boards are now under ahpra. the thing is, the college of nursing is asking me to get a recommendation letter from ahpra nsw so i called ahpra today and the person i talked to reinforced our belief that the letter issued after the transition makes one eligible to study in any accredited college or institution offering the bridging program. i then informed the college of nursing about this and i hope they accept the explanation so that i can start fixing things in time for the april intake. anyone here who is in for the april intake? :)
Hi liaa, try to send mikyong a private message becoz you both have the same situation, he is really keen on pursuing CoN too. CeridwenRN is bound for the April intake :) I'm taking mine on September pa but I need to have my Visa done before my IELTS expires on July :)
AHPRA's eligibility letter though stated that once registered, the nurse can work in any state/territories, but they weren't clear in their letter that the eligibility to take the bridging course can be anywhere. My letter specifically mentioned College of Nursing in Sydney and the referral letter was addressed to CoN as well. Goodluck, hope you can settle your matter soon :)
as for the vaccines, what do schools require proof of immunity? or will proof of shots/vaccines be sufficient? thanks :)
hi again liaa, in the case of con, their website has the guide for the immunization, probably the rest of the schools would have similar ones, example:
diptheria, tetorifice, pertussis- one documented dose of adult dtpa vaccine
hepatitis b - [color=#ffffff]documented evidence of a completed, age appropriate, course of hepatitis b vaccine and documented evidence of anti-hbs ≥ 10mliu/ml; or documented evidence of past hepatitis b infection (anti-hbc).
measles, mumps, rubella - birth date before 1966: or documented evidence of 2 doses of mmr vaccine at least one month apart; or documented evidence of positive igg for measles, mumps and rubella
varicella - history of chickenpox, or documentation of physician-diagnosed shingles; or documented evidence of a positive varicella igg, or documented evidence of age appropriate varicella vaccination.
tuberculosis - all persons will need to have visited a local chest clinic to be screened for tb (to exclude active tb and establish baseline tb status) by local chest clinic/area health service accredited tst provider.
note: participants who have been tested in their country of origin prior to arrival to australia must have the evidence confirmed at an accredited tst provider.
hope this helps :)
hi again liaa, in the case of con, their website has the guide for the immunization, probably the rest of the schools would have similar ones, example:diptheria, tetorifice, pertussis- one documented dose of adult dtpa vaccine --- take note "adult", therefore we don't care much if you have dpt vacc when you were a baby, must have an 'adult' shot..
hepatitis b -[color=#ffffff]documented evidence of a completed, age appropriate, course of hepatitis b vaccine and documented evidence of anti-hbs ≥ 10mliu/ml; or documented evidence of past hepatitis b infection (anti-hbc).
--- i assume rns have hepa b vaccs already.. you can have a "lab test" for your level of immunity, then include this in your doctor's certificate where the doctor will state that no need for this and that because you have immunity...

measles, mumps, rubella - birth date before 1966: or documented evidence of 2 doses of mmr vaccine at least one month apart; or documented evidence of positive igg for measles, mumps and rubella..... ---- i didnt have mmr diseases, i don't have old records of my vaccination, so, i obtained 2 doses mmr 28 days apart..
varicella - history of chickenpox, or documentation of physician-diagnosed shingles; or documented evidence of a positive varicella igg, or documented evidence of age appropriate varicella vaccination. --- i had chickenpox dse before, the doctor just certified it that i had such..

hope this helps :)
please see above in blue, just sharing what i did..
re: NBI Clearance. Yes I didn't submit it during my application with AHPRA because if you take a look closely to what is being asked in questions #14 and #15, if your answer is 'NO' then proceed to the next question, if your answer is 'YES' then you must attach separate sheet for details that do not fit the space provided (explaining why you ticked the 'YES'). It didn't ask you to attach an NBI or a Police clearance at all. But like I said it is your option whether to attach it because it really depends on your Case Officer :)First Aid and BLS Training and all other Nursing-related trainings, yes I included them in my documents when I submitted it to NMBA-NSW before . Goodluck :)
i just wanna clarify, the 1st Aid and BLS trainings were included in your application in relation to your "resume", and not because it is a requirement of AHPRA? am i ryt?
on the other hand, i know that there are BP schools that clearly require their students to have 1st Aid and BLS trainings as part of the requirements in applying for BP in their school (not because of AHPRA)..
did i get it right...

vaccination card duly signed by the doctor (e.g. hepa B, Flu vaccine), certification signed by the doctor (e.g. you already had chickenpox), laboratory test result with certification of the doctor (you had hepa b antibodies, and no need for booster)..
Olah!Any fellow pinoy/pinay nurse here who paid the fees to AHPRA via cheque or money order??
Just want to ask if I can just go to any bank here in the Philippines where I have an account and ask for a cheque payable to AHPRA or there is a CERTAIN BANK like (ANZ) where I need to obtain the cheque??? And how about the money order?
Sorry I really don't have any idea and one more thing I got no credit card =(
Please help! thanks =)
1) this matter was discussed in the early pages of this thread, in case you wanna do some research..
2) you can actually use or request someone with a credit card for him to write and sign that payment portion.. meaning his card will be charged, and just settle the payment with him when the bill comes..
3) you can go ANZ and explain your case.. in this transaction, i strongly believe you will need a DEMAND DRAFT in AUSTRALIAN CURRENCY (not US dollar currency).. this is what i advised to previous applicants, no one went back complaining i was wrong and no one went back saying i was right, so presume i was right ( i worked 10 years in the banking sector before becoming semi-retired in this nursing sector, hehehe)..
4) if you can check those pages when this was discussed then better for you (sorry, dont have to time to check which page was it)..

You are right. But I mentioned I included it during my application with NMBA-NSW (that was before AHPRA) because If I remember it right there was like an "others" thingy that can be attached to the application :)
just info tidbits...
NSW goverment nurses are demanding for a 1:4 ratio like Victoria has.. if approved or even if partially approved, it means new RN vacancies in NSW itself, estimated around 1,500 to 2000.. there are about 1,000 expected new Australian citizen RN graduates in NSW the end of this school year, and same 1,ooo in Queensland.. hope i remember the figures right..
the more hospital nurses, the better for me, coz i dont wanna go to the hospital, meaning i wont be kicked out from the nursing home because there are no more nurses left, silly me..
good luck to your applications.. gotta sleep, 7-3 shift me tomorrow..
