New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

You have to have at least $1000 for each month of stay in Au. P100,000 is safe for 3 months, I think.

thanks for replying kit25. Can I use a friend's bank account statement as a financial support being my sponsor??

I hope I can some inputs on this.

Thanks.

I'm not really sure about bank statements since I am still going through the process. But according to sources, you must have your own bank account. If you have an existing savings account in the bank you can borrow your friend's money and deposit it in your account for sometime. Your bank account should have a history and not merely opening an account and have all the money the next day. You should be able to convince the visa officer that you can support yourself in Australia while doing the bridging course. I hope this helps.

I agree with Kit25... best to have the money in your account for at least 3 months. Embassy usually looks at 3 months history at the least. And make transactions - deposit and withdrawals- so it will look real.

Still processing my OZ application but for the other countries i went to thats what they usually require.

Better if you have more than P100000 because you still have airfares and other incidentals to pay for. In fact the more money, the better.

The account does not have to be named after you. You just have to show an affidavit of support from your friend. The account must be existing 3 months prior to your application with the required amount. The problem with depositing the money in your account if you are going to borrow it from your friend is that they will look for proof on how you were able to get that amount like pay slips and etc. They would certainly ask you how acquired "for example 1million" in your account if you cannot show proof on how were able to come up with that money.

this is what's written on the immi website...

The money to support you and your family members must come from one or more acceptable sources, which may include:

a money deposit with a financial institution held by you, or a person supporting you, for at least three consecutive months immediately before the date of your visa application

Non-cash assets such as property and shares are not acceptable sources of income. However, non-cash assets may be liquidated or used as collateral on a loan, if they are provided by an acceptable source.

You need to show evidence of how the money to fund your studies was accumulated. If your source of income is a money deposit held in a bank account, you must provide the following evidence:

  • pay slips
  • bank loan documents
  • interest from investments.

hi Lecna31,

It's so nice of you to share me your actual experience. I really appreciate it. Unfortunately, I lodged my application to QNC already.

I think if I get my application back from QNC, I will ask my notary use the format that you told me to certify my docs.

However, do you have to pay money for the same notary public again? and can you use the old docs that QNC sent back to you to add more words in those docs? or you have to use the new docs.

thanks a lots ^^ & God bless~

hi patsy_th,

i didn't pay for the notary public because the same doc. # was used in certifying the corrected document. i revised the document and used the current date in the certification. just talk to the notary public to use the old doc # so that you will not pay the fee, anyway it is the same document...you are only revising the way it was certified as true copy. :nuke:

merry christmas!

The ANSM is requiring their applicants to have at least 50,000 pesos or 1 thousand dollars in their bank accounts. No more, no less. And all of their nurses got their approval for a 456 visa. Just my :twocents:

ielts can be taken in your home country, which will save not only time but money, to sit the uil exams in australia can be expensive and it is our recommendation that you achieve ielts at home, we as a company can help you achieve this with recommendation to review schools that have a high pass rate.

when you are ready for the bridging course exams, at present this fee is $12,000, but is due to be decreased, we can help you finance this fee with are partner bank in australia.

group 3 - overseas new graduate rn nurses with 5.5 to 7.0 ielts level aged care course.

the ' australian aged care program is designed by sawsee international for newly graduated nurses in association with specialized training providers and employers throughout australia to provide "work while you study"

as a participant in our program you will get the best career in aged care industry and can work toward your permanent residency in australia including all eligible family members.

your visa will allow you to take one parent/guardian with you who will be eligible to work 40 hours or more a week.

as part of this program, candidate will be placed in a nursing / care home to gain work based training for around 20 hours per week. these 20 hours will be paid by employer to cover living and food expenses, when training at college is not taking place (16 weeks a year) you are eligible to work 40+ hours a week.

a candidate with eligibility will apply to sawsee with necessary documents

on receipt of enrolment applicant will pay migration fees, 147,875.00php 50% of migration and agents fee. 'sawsee international' will send necessary documentation to the migration agent within 28 days.

sawsee international will help prepare all paperwork needed for australian migration and advise you at all stages of what is needed for your visa (572)

once candidate receives the visa, he/she have to pay all course fees which include first semester fee and administration fee. 532,875.00php

on arrival to australia, sawsee international representative will pick the candidate from airport and take you to your accommodation;

for first 3months, there will be class room based training for students after 3 months of classroom based training; 'candidate' will be placed in nursing home / care home for work based training for 18 - 21 months. during this period candidate will get 20 hours of paid work based training

after completing two years, candidate is eligible to permanent residency or employer sponsored work permit

if however you wish to continue with the aged care course you can take two years before a final decision needs to be made to take the stages above and continue on your bridging course for nursing.

if you wish you can qualify as a aged care worker and continue working in care homes until you have received permanent residency and have settled and can apply at a later stage for your bridging/australian nursing license.

i some cases ielts is not needed, but in the case of australia it is recommended that ielts is taken in home country as we have found the english evaluation and test is expensive in australia.

please be aware as a newly graduated nurse you would only qualify on our program as a student visa, this will give entry to one other person that would be able to work full time in australia to help with the support.

if this or any of the information above is of interest we ask that you complete the attached resume format and assessment form along with a formal letter of interest so as to submit to the rto and employers in australia, once accepted you will be required to pay the initial deposit.

for the purpose of the fees we use a healthcare agent and as such fees are not paid until visa acceptance has been received from australia and before departure.

current fees do not include home land visa fees, flight, and health insurance.

Hi Aelith and everybody,

Wow it seems that we will have to spend more than HALF A MILLION PESOS before we can start working as an "Aged care worker", not a nurse for practically 2 years. So sad to think that only quiet a few can afford this. Not to mention the financial support and show money?

I met many Australians, and they informed me that actually they badly need us Asian nurses to fill the space that their own nurses are leaving. Their own nurses are leaving for England to earn more than they can in their own country. So why are we having difficulties in applying there? Maybe somebody is giving us some hardtimes or in the middle of this bussines ridden careers. Maybe you can do your own math.

This is just my own opinion guys. You don't have to take this personally. (ha ha ha)

Man, this is a looooong thread but I must say it's worth the read!:D Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and helping out those who might also want to explore the opportunities in Aus.:yeah:

I would just like to clarify a few things, to make sure I understand the process correctly, hope you guys can help me. :specs:

1. The whole process from the submission of application to the issuance of license will take around 1 year?

2. If you took the Challenge test and passed parts A and B, you'll become a licensed/registered nurse for Australia, right?

3. That will then allow you to look for an employer who will in turn sponsor your visa? As of now i dont intend to become a permanent resident, so the temporary long stay visa is the one i need, correct?

4. How long is the license/passing of the CAS valid? Do I have to find an employer and file for the visa immediately? As some of you have mentioned, most hospitals prefer applicants with at least 1 year of experience (which i dont have yet). I was thinking, would it be ok for me to still work here in the Philippines for a couple of months to a year after I passed the challenge test, just so I could improve my chances on landing a job in a decent hospital instead of a nursing home and at the same time gain more confidence as a nurse? What could be the implications of that route?

5. How long do contracts (with hospital) usually last? That is, without the help of an agency?

6. If found job hunting to be difficult, are there agencies that can help me? Coz the ones I've read about so far offer help with the whole package, starting with the tests (at least the ones here in the Philippines) down to clinica placement. What if the latter is my only concern, would that be a plus or a minus on my part?

I'd highly appreciate your inputs regarding the matter, guys. Godbless us all! :saint: Happy New Year in advance! :)

guys, i can "smell" lot of exploitation here. even if we only got low ielts score we can still read and comprehend that there are "double talk" in the guidelines. like "give entry to one other person that would be able to work full time". did not mention if it's included on the fees we paid (+- half a million). i don't think they are for free.

if we keep on supporting these schemes, we are just making it more difficult for filipino nurses to get in to australia. we really need badly to get in to australia, but australia needs us even more than we do.

use your "coconut guys" and read websites and fight against exploiters. our government should look into this.i'm so tired of reading disgusted qualified with experienced nurses fall into this scheme, when actually australia needs us. if this so called agency have an easy way, then why can't we do it. we are the ones with the qualification, not the agency. they only "help" in submitting our documents. and we pay a lot for that? are we that ignorant. so now we can be called "ignorant nurses". i pity our parents. god bless them.
