New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hi wingcharm, I was wondering if you have decided which path you're gonna take -- conversion or BP? I'm stuck like you. Hoping you can share your thoughts with me. Thanks!

I don't know yet. At first I was determined to just take conversion but got discouraged because of the tons of money I should spend.

Now that I've got my IELTS result, I'm thinking if I'll just really proceed to take conversion, or I'll retake IELTS again and get that 7!

But if you'll ask me. You should get BP instead. Atleast you had a hospital experience. :)

:bluecry1::bluecry1: Hi Javrn , I sent you a pm. I hope you got it :bluecry1:
jesse gurl,

i received my offer letter yesterday. yes it's dated october 11. my classmate also, it's dated october 11.

you received your offer letter 2 months ago? did u really apply for the october intake? because we applied for the august 23 intake.... does it mean it was 2 months ago that the slots for august were full?

yup. when i was interviewed the interviewer told me that I was in for the October intake. The letter of offer which I received via email also states "The course is scheduled to commence on the 4th October 2010 and is designed to be conducted over a ten week period."....

i don't think there will also be 2 intake this october for VCHN BP (oct 4 and oct 11). i think we must call VCHN again and clarify this matter.

thanks jesse for presenting the matter....

il clarify this up with VCHN... or if u can, please do.... thanks[/quote

ok ricardo. tnx. been looking for someone here who's in for the Oct intake at VCHN for a month already. so lucky you pop up. :D

wait, is that medical also true to the 456 visa?

yes ricardo. I'm done with my medicals already and lodged my 456 visa. i'm still waiting for the approval.

thanks needlefoxrn!

i've already called them (vchn) and received answers to my questions. the only thing i forgot to ask is what kind of registration i'll get at the end: registration of wa (since wa has not accepted the health practitioner regulation national law bill yet) or national-wide??? any guess?

i think it has something to do with politics over there. with wa paying the same percentage as the other states when it comes to health funding yet contributes more money than the other coag members of the federal government. the ahpra website however, states that the nmbwa is soon expected to join the nmba. you could also give ahpra a ring with this number 1300 088 590 to ask for info not given on the website. this number is a hotline specifically for registrants.

@Ricardo Yeah I emailed you the link about the medical exam. The list of accredited panel doctors are also in the DIAC website specific to our country

@Jesse_Gurl Did you do the check up with a panel doctor before lodging for a visa application or did you wait for them to tell you to do so?

And I have a question, why can't you get a student visa for the bridging program?:) so that you can work part time during the three months?

It's because after the bridging program, it is highly likely that you would get a job in Australia, thus making it easy for you to convert your visa into a different business visa subclass. Thoughtful government right? :)

Hi everyone! I'm a newbie in this forum. I've been reading this thread for 2 months now, and I must say that all the info you guys have provided are very informative and useful. I actually have this thread automatically set to load whenever I open my browser daily, and I just keep on hitting refresh to see what new posts are made.

I've been planning to take the conversion program in Au to get registered, but seeing all the posts about bridging program is making me change my mind, with the financial factor being at the top of the list. I've actually submitted my applications to universities (Curtin, UQ to name a few), and I'm just waiting for their assessment. I prefer to begin the Au journey at the beginning of 2011.

Do you think I should go for bridging program instead? I have 3 months unpaid training at a tertiary hospital, and am currently on the process of getting hired as a casual employee for 5 months.

Hope you can help me. Thanks!

hello, in terms of total expenses and time, it is better to undergo BP than conversion program, however the main concern would be getting a slot in a BP which as others had said had been a bit competitive already.. good luck.. just keep asking questions as others here will try to help you..

hello guys...

question. whom should i contact and get updates from with regards to my application status?

is it AHPRA, NMBA or is it still NBV which i know is no longer existing(don't know if their numbers are still working though)?

PLS HELP.. I NEED HELP PARTICULARLY FROM THOSE WHO ARE IN AUSTRALIA ALREADY..

I would like to ask for the telephone number of AHPRA Office in Melbourne.. The number they posted in the website is a toll free number 1 300..... Im based here in the Phils., i tried dialling that number and it wont be accepted, meaning that number could only be used if you are calling from Australia itselt..

In view of this, i hope anyone could find and give me another number (the usual landline number) which i could call long distance from here phils.. if only i have an australian yellow pages, then i would not post this query.

thank you..

hello,

check the AHPRA website for the AHPRA Victoria/Melbourne address.. but as i mentioned in my earlier post, they do not disclose a "landline number" (they only have a toll free number).. i assume you are still in the philippines, thus you could not dial that toll free number.. Try contacting the tel numbers of the NBV, hopefully they are still working and could still assist you or ask them for the "landline number" of AHPRA Victoria.. In other words, we both have the same need, the land line number of AHPRA Victoria..

hope other members could help us..
