New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

@cioman94 thanks for the info. i appreciate it. best of luck to you.

@doza I believe we're on the same boat as I haven't submitted my application yet. have you taken IELTS already?

Hi everyone! I'm a newbie in this forum. I've been reading this thread for 2 months now, and I must say that all the info you guys have provided are very informative and useful. I actually have this thread automatically set to load whenever I open my browser daily, and I just keep on hitting refresh to see what new posts are made.

I've been planning to take the conversion program in Au to get registered, but seeing all the posts about bridging program is making me change my mind, with the financial factor being at the top of the list. I've actually submitted my applications to universities (Curtin, UQ to name a few), and I'm just waiting for their assessment. I prefer to begin the Au journey at the beginning of 2011.

Do you think I should go for bridging program instead? I have 3 months unpaid training at a tertiary hospital, and am currently on the process of getting hired as a casual employee for 5 months.

Hope you can help me. Thanks!

Hello people! I'm back. Now. I'm done with the IELTS and passport. What's the next best thing to do while waiting for my IELTS result. Until now I'm undecided what school to choose or if I'll take BP or conversion. Do I have to choose immediately so that I can do the next step. Or can I do something else for my application while waiting and thinking?

Hi wingcharm, I was wondering if you have decided which path you're gonna take -- conversion or BP? I'm stuck like you. Hoping you can share your thoughts with me. Thanks!

Guys,

I need help. I received a letter of eligibility from NMBWA, and tried to reach the Victorian College of Health and Nursing through e-mail for information about their bp. But no answer. What should I do? Call them and clarify all the issues by phone? Fill out the application form and send it? What are the first steps?

Hi guys,

I've been reading this thread for months now and I finally got my letter from the NBV this week.

I am interested for this year's intake for the BP, am considering ETEA and University of Ballrat WLI. I'm going to live in Caroline Springs by the way. Any suggestions which one is better?:)

And what are the requirements for ETEA and UB-WLI?:)

Thank u so much!

@Alexey VCHN Takes time to reply to queries. I suggest you should probably wait for a couple of days. You could also try to email the HCIG group of the VCHN.

Hi Doza,

Click on application general registration for overseas nurses at this link:

AHPRA - Forms

you will see the postal address for applications which is in Melbie.

Cheers!

Thanks dreaminOz!

To those of you in the same situation, this was on the bottom of the form:

You may lodge this form in two ways:

1. By mail

GPO Box 9958

MELBOURNE VIC

AUSTRALIA 3000

2. In person

Refer to AHPRA - AHPRA Home

for

the location of the AHPRA office

in your state.

And I have a question, why can't you get a student visa for the bridging program?:) so that you can work part time during the three months?

@doza I believe we're on the same boat as I haven't submitted my application yet. have you taken IELTS already?

Budins, yes, I guess so:) havent taken the ielts yet. Wanted to make sure about the regulations first so I can keep my ielts validity for the longest possible time. IDP Manila has it 3x a month I think so I don't worry. Ill apply for it within the week already. What about you? Are you taking the BP or Conversion?

Hey Carla!

Just remember that if you decide to take the BP, you'll have to apply for approval with the AHPRA. With conversion, it's only the school that will approve you for the course. :)

thanks needlefoxrn!

i've already called them (vchn) and received answers to my questions. the only thing i forgot to ask is what kind of registration i'll get at the end: registration of wa (since wa has not accepted the health practitioner regulation national law bill yet) or national-wide??? any guess?

I got my IELTS result and it's breaking my heart. huhu.

Listening 6.5 Reading 8 Writing 6.5 Speaking 8 Overall Band 7.5

If only I can round off those 6.5's!!!

I'm sure I can improve this upon retake, but I just hate the fact that I have to pay 8K+ again. :crying2:

Or maybe I can just choose conversion then retake my IELTS. But It also means I've got to spend millions and spend two years studying again. Am I destined to take conversion? Yeah yeah... I'm being dramatic now. :crying2:
