New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

To Thinkerbell and Trion08,

I would just like to inform you that I received my acceptance letter from Hollywood Private Hospital for the Bridging Program run this Jan. 2009. To complete my timeline, here's the continuation of the above post I previously made.

Sept 24 - acceptance of the Letter from NMBWA requiring me to take the Bridging Program

Sept 26 - sent the application for Bridging Program and attachments to HPH

Sept 30 -received confirmation from HPH of the receipt of my application

Oct 21 - received acceptance letter from HPH to be a part of the Jan. 2009 run

I will now process my visa 456 with the Australian Embassy. I already got a return ticket even before I was accepted by HPH. Just being positive that I will get a nod from the training dept of the hospital and because the ticket was cheap.

For the others who will be interested to obtain their registration from WA, just send your queries and I will try to share with you whatever knowledge I have. I hope I can be of help to others.

Good luck to all of us and I hope we will meet in OZ in the future.

Hi Nursemavi,

As mentioned earlier that I still blind about WA.

Here's the list of expenses I spent/estimated to be spent for this endeavor.

PRC Cert of Good Standing P75.00

mailing to Perth via EMS 970.00

cost of certifying docs 800.00

mailing to Perth via FEDEX 1,370.00

Assessment fee to NMBWA 8,404.00(AUD220.00)

mailing to Hollywood Hosp 1,350.00

Tuition AUD880.00 @ 35 30,800.00

return ticket SIN-PERTH-SIN 20,128.00

1 way ticket dvo-sin 6,600.00

cost of living/month AUD1k/MONTH inc allowance

105,000.00 (3 MONTHS)

est total expenses P175,497.00

I have allotted a 25% allowance on my cost of living allowance. Visa costs only AUD100 which I fail to include and medicals which cost at P2,800 here in Davao.

NMBWA does not require experience for them to grant a positive assessment to be able to pursue a successful bridging program. However, Dept of Health requires 2 years post grad experience (employed)while Hollywood Hospital requires 1 year or 1,840 hrs of post grad experience(training is acceptable). I only have trainings but I was accepted by Hollywood Private Hospital for the January 2009 run. I am currently undergoing ward nurse training to complete my 1,840 hours. I hope to complete this training by Dec. 04.

I hope this will enlighten and guide you in deciding which path to take.

Good luck and God bless.

So aside from Queensland and NSW, Western Australia is also available? Except they require experience?

That's right. They require experience but their bridging program is the cheapest.

You might want to add Victoria too... and the other states.
