New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

I think among all the options that were given, QNC pathway is still the cheapest. am i right?

Well if you would be using the Challenge test Pathway, then it is by far the cheapest one. However, if you will be going through the modules, it won't be the cheapest anymore.

But, if you are an inexperienced nurse, QNC will be the cheapest one out there.

luckily ill be taking the challenge test. right now my only problem is test B . really dont know how should i prepare for that. anyway i know we can pull this through. good luck to everyone.:yeah:

Specializes in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Medical.

I'll be going to sawsee tomorrow. I will just post whatever it is I will learn there. Nursemavi... is your experience paid or just a training? That's my biggest problem if they accept trainings as work experience. and I am so happy to know that they would accept it.

Which one is this one again..? the one with the ECA ?? Ill let you know what will happen with seesaw when i see them on the 30th.

yeah that one and the consultancy. but if you seek their help definitely it wont be cheap anymore. their service fee is twice as much as the normal process. QNC application through self effort is what i meant by "the cheapest". :wink2:

maybe after our registration here pushes thru, we can talk about how we can find a job placement for inexperienced nurses like us. lol.

I have a booked flight on Dec. 31. I am processing my visa 456. The program will start on Jan 05, 2009.

wow. congratulations. :yeah: kinda sad you wont be spending New Year in the Philippines.

more info regarding sawsee's program: (part 1)

1. if i have an ielts score of less than 7.0+ , i will need to undergo the certificate iii training and the english program for 1 year under the 442 (occupational trainee visa). after which, i will proceed with the bridging course which is originally scheduled for 1 year but can be finished within 6 months only. we have two option for nurses, realising not all can afford to go straight to australia and study for their bridging course which at this time would be unpaid mon-fri 8 hours a day plus study time.

if ielts is under 7.0 but must be 5.5+ you can enter australia on a 442 visa and be employed on a cert iii aged care training course for 12 months, this will give you the opportunity to earn an income above what you can earn in the philippines, so you can in fact save money to be prepared for the 5/6 months of training on your bridging course, under the terms of the visa you will be studying for up to and no more than 11.9 hours per week in a class room and 26.6 hours per week paid practical training in a care home or various establishments, this is not for everyone, but with the experience we have gained from working in the philippines we have tried to come up with a way that not only can you sustain yourselves when arriving you can also with care save enough money for your bridging course training to be able to concentrate on it rather than having to split your time and try and work at the same time. you must also improve your english score in this time and achieve ielts 7.0+ in this time, we have found that the english class fee is very expensive, and recommend that you achieve your ielts 7.0 score in the philippines, the difference being $a880 in australia compared to 8/9000php here. this option is open for all with 5.5 plus and 7.0plus scores, as previously stated we have tried to work a program where instead of 10,000php a month you can earn 15,000php a week plus

so registering for a bridging course can take 3-4 months in this time you can be trained as a cert iii aged carer/support worker, when the results are in you can either elect to finish the course there and then or continue until the end, the longer you work the more you can save, you can also elect to go on to the next course if you require more time to save money, the course will be for another twelve months, this in essence would give you two years working on a 442 visa, if you want.

1.a. when will i be applying for my registration in nbv?

when you arrive in australia

1.b. after registration, what will happen to me? will i be working in a hospital after?

you are not qualified to work in a public hospital until bridging course has been completed, we have come up with the arrangements above.

1.c. when will i be paying the 250 aud per week?

when you start your bridging course

1.d. when will i need to pay the 4.2k aud?

depends on your circumstances, we have different arrangement for different people, but would normally be after you have received a contract of employment and you confirmation from a rto that you have been accepted on the cert iii course,

1.e. what will be the average working hours i could work?

there is a misconception on your forum, migration advise is guidelines, the book for immigration is 6” thick, but rule of thumb is as follows, to enter australia on a 442 visa which is not a student visa it is vocational visa for up skilling, means that on submission of your migration papers the rules are you must follow the guidelines set out 11.9 hours of study and 26.6 of work based training, since april 2008, a 442 visa also has a work element attached, this work element means you do not have to apply for permission to work the 26.6 hours, as when migration paperwork is submitted we have to have a guide hence why this formula is used as set down by the rto. you can however avail extra work in your nominator work place, as overtime, the pay scale for participants is like this, 26.6 hours is as state rate, for this purpose we will say $15.00, it will always be the lowest band of payment, anything over these hours worked in the establishment will be overtime at $15.00 plus 50%, again in australia there is a band rate of pay, unfortunately it is normal common practice that immigrants do end up on the worse shifts, nights/weekends/public holidays, the good news is the band of pay is normally higher at these times.

1.f. which permanent visa will i be applying after the 442 visa? i have checked the immigration website and i have only found 1 specific permanent visa which accepts previous 442 visa holders and that is skilled - regional sponsored (provisional) visa (subclass 487). the visa requires one to at least stay for 2 years in a regional area and gain 1 year working experience there. only then will i be able to apply for the permanent resident status under skilled - regional (resident) subclass 887 visa.

we admit we are not experts in immigration matters, we as a company look at ways we can help gain the best for everyone; i understand your reservation with regards to pr and the visa issued, i have an answer, if you require pr and you need to stay for 4 years, to avail this what is the problem, in most countries it takes just as long, you will have full access to the migration agent at all times, and the advise we have been given and i can only pass on, is after passing/qualifying as an rn. you work for 6 months then apply for pr, not all question can be answered here some issue are more important than others to people, so at the first interview with my company we do establish what is most important, if this is the most important then this is address for you, we like most of you learn new thing every day, and like you, we are open minded to any suggestion to improve our programs, and if you have firsthand experience are just an idea we would welcome the chance to investigate to improve the program we offer

you may be right you may be wrong, but this will be investigated for you and i will have the answer posted on your forum.

1.h. who will shoulder the pr visa fees?

in the first instance you will shoulder the cost of the pr, but saying that it has been known that the employer or nominator has offered refunds this is something that can be discussed with the nominator/employer when the time is right.

continuation.... (part 2)

2. if i have an ielts score of more than 7.0, will i still need to undergo the certificate iii training?

not if you don’t want to, you can go straight to registering for your bridging course

2.a. i understand i will still be applying under 442 visa, but what kind of training will i be undergoing?

your training will be what is involved in getting your bridging course complete

2.b. will i still be under the 442 visa for 2 years? if not, how many years or months will i be under the 442 visa?

our 442 visa system is applied for, for two years, the rules of migration in australia are as simple as i can make it, under the law of immigration you can apply for your visa for two years, the visa will only last as long as the course you are studying, plus two months, the two month is either to prepare for your departure, or to apply for a new visa 447/572/442/ and so on. again this is a question that can only be answered best when the circumstances of each person is assessed at an interview, again as i have said before, different people want different thing

2.c. when will i be paying the 250 aud per week?

when your bridging course has been booked and paid for, normally one month after is the start date, again more detail can be address for you; i will get complete confirmation of the bank procedure.

2.d. do i still need to pay the 165k pesos?

no - this is only if you wish to take the aged care course as well

2.e. what are the fees that i need to pay upfront?

your fees upfront will be – clinica 50% - migration agent 50% - $a240 visa fee

2.f. which permanent visa will i be applying for? or will i be applying for a 457 (business temporary long stay) visa instead and later on apply for a permanent visa?

many options are open to you, and again before you would proceed we would make sure that these questions are addressed and answered to your satisfaction.

“statement from president”

one thing i feel that you should all be aware of is the tax laws in australia do benefit workers of all kinds, for this reason before anyone leave the philippines, all costs involved with the migration and placement we invoice for you, so when you tax file has been open you are armed with the first claim against the tax man in australia, as immigrants you are entitled to claim the costs back from the taxman, this is not to say you will get 100% refund, but you do get some back, it doesn’t come back within the first week or even the first month, unfortunately it comes back very slow, in your tax coding and in most case a small refund at the end of the year, this is not something that should be relied on or expected, but part of our service is we will help you open your tax file and when the time is right will also help you file your tax returns helping you get the benefit that are due to you, we also provide temporary accommodation on arrival in australia along with the normal holding hands for the first week, and 24/7 help line whilst training. arrangements have been made for loans to be given for the bridging course when and if needed thru the bank.

everyone may be thinking that you pay we work, for us it doesn’t work like that, we make you aware of the obligation that you will have to fulfil, and if accepted, we then process your papers, making sure that we have you placed with the rto, and the migration agents see nothing in your file that could cause a problem along the road, this is so that you can avail our services without obligation, we do have strict guidelines, but you have not paid us or committed any fees in advance, i will admit this has only been implement from reading you forum, and as i said we adapt to your needs, if we are to build confidence with you for instance we need to ever changing to suit your needs, at the end of the day we work for you, you have employed us to do a job for you. “we are here to learn as well help us to help you”, we as a company do avail the services of clinica, they are very good and they are a business, unfortunately they also charge this is the fees you will be paying along with a migration agent fee, but it is 50% down balance on visa production. we have listed fees, but for the forum i don’t wish to have it posted, but the fees we discuss include everything, including full access to any advice or help you may need in our offices, we do not charge you a bit here and bit there for paperwork processing, our company is founded on the principle, you pay enough to live your dream, we as a company are paid a fee, only when you have flown, and not before, our fee comes out of your final payment, so it is in our best interest we get you on the plane and gone. we can also offer advice on saving money and reducing the outlay, but again this is discussed at a meeting, we do not run an open appointment scheme, we do ask if you are interested please make an appointment first.

take care and i welcome your comments

---------------------------------------------

please find below our partners in australia, if you would like a starting point then this would be a good one to check on about us and the course being run from our company, you can also check our company www.sawseeint.com and i appreciate your understanding, to make it clear to you we have two ways of doing thing, for people that can afford to go straight onto bridging course and not need an income for 5 months we can help, for those who don’t mind or only have ielt5.5 you can start on aged care cert iii course and start to earn money quickly, whilst waiting for your assessment papers to come thru on this you can do a 1 year course or a two year course, saving money towards your bridging course.

the fees that are charged are payable to clinica and the migration agent and of course embassy a$240, and if you opt for the cert iii paid direct to clinca

a brief breakdown for you

220,000php for clinica and migration agent 50% with application balance after visa

$a240 embassy

flight about 21,000 to 31,000php

if you take cert iii $a4200 (165k php) in aged care when contract and course details are sent

$a12,000 bridging course money lent to you and payable when course start

hope those helped clarify some things. :)
