New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

from what I know, they're still accepting applications for assessment, the dilemma is that it takes about 3-5 mos to get assessed. By the time your papers got assessed, NBV will not exist anymore. So there's a probability that the new governing body--- which is Nursing and Midwifery board of australia, will not recognize the assessment made by the NBV and may require REASSESSMENt under the new system.. and if so, my $145 assessment fee, and about P2,000 pesos for notarization-courier-etc will go to waste.

would the eligibility letter still be valid after july if there would be a new system? or do we the documents reassessed again?

hello nurses,

thanks for the wishes..im almost through with my BP here in victoria..one more week to go and hopefully NBV registration will soon follow...

@chabeli, havent heard from you for ages now...where are you and whats happening in your end?

Congratulations! :)

I emailed NBV with regards to the changes that will happen come July 2010.

I asked them if we still could pass our application now and if they will be affected by the changes. Here's their reply:

"If you submit an application to the Nurses Board of Victoria the application process will not change in any way, it will still be assessed and the same requirements will remain."

:)

if that is so, then it's good news :D

hmm... so nothing's gonna change?

i hope that the july 2010 changes will not have any adverse retroactive effect on those already granted eligibility letters. i believe that the australian nursing authorities will implement the changes fairly.:up::up:
