Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
Hi everyone. To those currently working in Australia, would you say that there are a lot of nursing openings for us Filipino nurses as of the moment?
It was my understanding that Australia is in need of a lot of jobs, but this morning, I called The Hollywood Private hospital in Perth and they told me that this is the last year they would offering a bridging program.
I asked them whether this was due to the transition from per state to national registration, but the they told me that this was because there aren't any jobs for nurses in Perth, so it would be useless to continue with the program.
They told me if there is a demand again for nurses they would open the class, but this would probably be in 2012 or 2013...no confirmation.
I just find it odd that this is what they told me. Do you think this is strictly a Perth or West Australia Thing? or his this throughout the whole of Australia?
Yes that's true. And this is bec of WA's bad politics. There's no job in Perth. Not only in nursing. Jobs are in the mining at the north. After my conversion, I'm planning to transfer to other states probably in qld or nsw. I think it's by God's will that we ended up here in Perth so that I can do my conversion bec in qld and nsw, bp has already stopped. WA economy is really bad at the moment. Elec, water, gas, rent, and taxes are sky rocketing. And crime rate in this city is increasing at an alarming rate bec of unemployment. The mining industry is also under threat bec of the new tax reform. Things are getting worse *sigh*
Last January everything is still stable but after 4 months, it became bad and getting worse. Well, in times like these all we can do is hope for the better and to think positive.

Conversion takes a year to finish so there's a year to wait for the economy to pick up. Besides, upon graduating you're not trapped in WA so what's the worry? Transfer to another state then and take advantage of the natl registration. When are you planning to do your conversion? By next yr tuition in curtin is now 25800. Edith cowan is the cheapest. Less than 20k. Around 18k. But curtin is a premiere uni so you'll be "sellable" in all states. Also part time job in WA is difficult to come by during your conversion. And you can't work in nursing homes bec caregivers here require an aged III cert. It sucks, yes...

Yeah, I'll also transfer to another state. It's just that you've mentioned the skyrocket price of things there, it means more expenses while I'm in Perth. Oh well, I just hope that situation in Perth gets better when I'm already there.
im planning to take the bridging program in perth, is there a way for me to transfer to another state? is there a program/course for that?
By mutual recognition. But by the time you graduate natl registration is on effect already so it won't matter anymore where you take your course. Also, vchn is the only bp provider in wa at the moment. All the others will reopen if nurses are needed in wa again bec of the mining boom (which is currently under threat). Also RPH, WA's oldest and premiere hospital will soon be closed as soon as Stanley Fiona becomes operational bec of budget crisis so the employees of rph will all be layed off and they will transfer to the new hospital. And an icon of WA- the ferris wheel beside the Swan Bells will soon be gone. That's called WA politics. O_o. Oh, and despite the budget crisis, WA funded the formula 1 racing and the liver tansplant of a drug addict. Are these more impt than public health? Why of all dept cut the budget of public health? More O_o. I have no plans of settling here in WA. We need new politicians here asap.
But compared with Sydney, Perth is a lot cheaper still despite the price hikes. But the house rent is really getting expensive. Few more years and Perth houses will be more expensive than Sydney.

Thank you terdjay! good to hear those who would be taking the bridging programs will have other options and not be stuck in one state
hello, you said an agency will sponsor you, why you still have an upcoming interview? would you mind private messaging me the name of the agency? :) thanks.so an average of two weeks is the registration processing?
are you intending to work in bendigo?
the agency is on call as of the moment like a casual thing and they told me to still look for work because they can only give me around 2 shifts per week at this time. the interview is in the hospital where i did my placement. so whoever can sponsor me first, i'll work there. yes around 2 weeks for the registration certificate depends on how soon the school will pass the papers to nbv.
Hi. Thank you very much for the reality check here and congrats on finding an employer. I like to ask also on the nursing condition there. How difficult is it to find a nrsg job there in Victoria? Coz here in Perth there is no opening in all public and private hospitals bec of the health budget cut and the wa economy is currently in bad shape. Only locals are being hired at the moment.
most of my classmates went back to India because they couldn't extend their visa. They only had 1 month to look for job and only a few landed jobs and not even in Victoria but in Adelaide. Some are only hiring casuals which is a disadvantage coz we need full time employement to be sponsored. but for those who are PRs they can already apply for casual work.
