New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

thanks..where can i apply?

hi @lecna31...sorry i missed your message at ym...

Actually, there are 2 interviews; initial interview by HR and by the hospital which will offer us a placement or the HR herself for the second time. With regard to experience, as far I know, they need at least a year of experience but Farah24 did it even she had only 6 months experience...well just verify it for confirmation...

you can apply here....http://www.ramsayjobs.com.au/overseas/iron.asp

GOODLUCK

hi, thanks...

so is there a minimum years of experience required?

i'm not sure about the required years of experience since it was not stated in their site but when i applied i had a year and 3 months experience (volunteer work @ the hospital and clinic) :)

the consultancy firm offers two options. the first one is just like the cas program of the qnc. but here, we are obliged to take the challenge test first. they would provide the review materials. the written exam is taken here in the philippines while the clinical will be taken in australia. we only use the study modules if we failed in the test. the sad thing is we have to pay extra for it. this option costs 10k aud. meanwhile, if i will apply my own i have the option of taking the challenge test or study modules, right? thus, it can save me money if i decided to take the study modules.

the second option is the ion course. this is a new one and more expensive. 20k aud. i don’t know if it is a bridging program or what. it is a 13 week program (3 weeks theoretical 10 weeks practical). student visa will be used. i can’t remember if there is an exam after this. and if i remember it right the venue is in one of the provinces in victoria. the first batch under this program would leave on january 2010.

those are the only things i can share about the ion course. they just discussed it to us briefly and didn’t give us any pamphlet or any written documents regarding this. the amount includes the accommodation, airfare, assessment fee, visa processing fee, the examination fee etc. they would also help us find a job. so, i don’t know if this amount is worth it. if you could suggest any firms that i can help me and costs not that much i would really appreciate it.

thanks.. :rcgtku:

hi, can you pm me the name of the consultancy firm? i'm quite interested. hospital experience is not required, right? thanks!

hi ramiboy! i'll try my luck @ ETEA. they are quite fast in responding to my inquiries. how about you?

thanks for the yahoo messenger chat

Good evening...anyone can tell me what's included the specific details in the Certificate of employment(work experiences) when you are applying to WA?My borthday is on 16th of august...is there any effect if i will send my documents to WA board of nursing prior to my bday?thanks and God bless us all...

hi aelith,

are you aware of the nbv's resignation from anmc?:eek:correct me if i'm wrong, but what i understood was,the nbv does not agree with the anmc's decision, so has resigned its membership of anmc .the nbv's decision has been taken in line with the australian health workforce ministerial council's newly formed national registration and accreditation scheme for australia's health professions. the anmc board has resolved to restructure the organisation to become the accrediting body for nursing and midwifery in australia as part of the national registration and accreditation scheme. the nbv does not agree with the decision, so has resigned its membership of anmc. what do you think of this? are we directly or indirectly affected with their resignation from anmc? whew!! i'm again panicking:uhoh21:. what's gonna be next? just saw that news recently on nbv's website.

hi jmusic,

the resignation of nbv happened last june. i was initially worried because i am processing my papers with the nbv. in the faq portion, it says the applicants are not directly affected. they will be the regulating body until july. i also emailed anmc about this asking them if i still should go on with my nbv application. i was told to go on and that it is still accredited.

there's really no need to panic :)

hi everyone. i'll be taking the challenge test this sept. i lack nursing experience and i am a bit worried if i can land an employer -sponsored visa once i gained registration in queensland... however, would i be approved of a skilled-regional provisional visa (subclass 475) as long i passed the points system?

is it anmc who's handling this type of visa?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

If I remember rightly ANMC only assess for immigration they do not issue visas they just make sure you meet immigration requirements http://www.anmc.org.au/
