New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

once registered, i could apply for skilled- regional sponsored visa subclass 475 and needs to accomplish modified assessment that would be reviewed by anmc?

and under the modified assessment, you just have to hold registration or current license to practice not necessarily have nursing experience? hope someone could verify this and enlighten me..

this visa would be of great help to me then and hopefully to others too who have relatives in queensland.....

hi aelith,

are you aware of the nbv's resignation from anmc?:eek:correct me if i'm wrong, but what i understood was,the nbv does not agree with the anmc's decision, so has resigned its membership of anmc .the nbv's decision has been taken in line with the australian health workforce ministerial council's newly formed national registration and accreditation scheme for australia's health professions. the anmc board has resolved to restructure the organisation to become the accrediting body for nursing and midwifery in australia as part of the national registration and accreditation scheme. the nbv does not agree with the decision, so has resigned its membership of anmc. what do you think of this? are we directly or indirectly affected with their resignation from anmc? whew!! i'm again panicking:uhoh21:. what's gonna be next? just saw that news recently on nbv's website.

yup i'm aware of this. so far, you have no thing to worry about this one because the applicants are not really affected by their decision.

Hey looker, you dont have to be a permanent resident to qualify for Ramsay IRON program...

They will schedule you for a phone interview via email...I had mine last July 22, and the conversation we had was so light and smooth...they are nice and friendly, here goes my MS question:

You are about to admit a 60y/o, female pt, post laparotomy from operating theatre, with O2 via nasal canula, with epidural catheter, with urinary catheter, with compression stockings...what will be your nursing interventions in the first four hours of attending to this patient?:nurse:

Hope it helps.....:heartbeat

Just a friendly advice. Please be careful with what you post here especially specific examples of your own experience with exams, interviews, etc. Please be reminded of what happened to one fellow nurse who was traced by QNC and was disqualified due to some posts. This is a public forum so anyone can read whatever we write here.

Anyway, goodluck dear! :)

hi there! i've left a reply into a possible alternative in the other thread you've started :twocents:

Sorry Aelith, I just thought that I could help the one who asked about the interview question of Ramsay, I have the experience so I shared it, without any other motives....anyway I won't do it again.

No need to say sorry to me - it was just a friendly reminder for your sake. I really don't want the same thing to happen to any of you here... :( sorry if it seemed like I was telling you it was wrong... it was just a word of caution for everyone.

hey all,

i haven't been in this thread for quite a while...

i'm already here in victoria (as permanent resident) and waiting for NBV to assess my application... so i'm hearing a lot about Ramsay's IRON. is that the cheapest/fastest bridging course? i'm concerned about the hospital experience 'cause i haven't got any.

i'm currently undergoing a Certificate III in Aged Care which I will probably complete before the end of this month. I decided to do this first because i don't have money for the bridging program unless we can pay thru installment...

can you guys suggest other options?

hello, we are in the same boat...whereabout in victoria are you? im a permanent resident here in victoria, australia too...

anyway, someone told me that they(ramsay) require a minimum of 12 months experience, but somebody from here was able to undergo an interview even if she has only 6 months experience...

hey, you dont need to do the Cert.III in aged care for you to work as a PCA in a nursing home...your bachelors degree is more than enough for you to work as a PCA...give me your details and i will give you the contact numbers of one of the nursing agencies in victoria. :D

hello!! i just want to ask about the payment of the bridging course..do i have to pay it in full before i go to Australia or can i pay in installement when i get there? pls. enlighten me.thanks!!

hi guys

do i need a visa before enrolling for a bridging program?

and whats the difficulty of the course?

and i heard its two-part, theoretical and clinical procedures

hows the exam in clinical procedures conducted? i mean do they tell you what to review etc?

im just anxious coz NBV already asked me to take a bridging course hehe

As far as I know, you'll have to pay it in full. The exception is QNC where you'll pay only the number of modules you have to take or the exams if you are to go thru the Challenge test pathway.

Hello gast!

Gosh it's been soo long :) I can still remember you.. I think you asked for specific process for NBV before? :D

Hmmm.. about your question, I think you don't necessarily need a visa prior to enrollment - I believe it's the other way around (correct me guys if I'm mistaken :chuckle).

The difficulty of the course I think is subjective and depends on your study habits, the instructors, etc. You are correct too in the theoretical and clinical procedures.. not too sure about the specifics tho - I forgot to ask the people I know :S

Someone informed me too that instructors play a huge part too in passing the BP. One person said that in her batch... some failed because they were handled by the senior who was very strict up to the smallest detail lol... Their instructor ,however, is strict but more supportive and was lenient at times... and so they passed :D
