New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

hi ryan..thnx for replying to my question.hehe yep, ill take it easy.hehe. God bless sa atin lahat.

ramsay is okay as far as i know. is iron the one that was posted few pages back? if so, then i think i remember highlighting that it's for pr and citizens only. if that applies to you then you can do that. :)

did you try sending the boards an email?

hi aelith,

are you aware of the nbv's resignation from anmc?:eek:correct me if i'm wrong, but what i understood was,the nbv does not agree with the anmc's decision, so has resigned its membership of anmc .the nbv's decision has been taken in line with the australian health workforce ministerial council's newly formed national registration and accreditation scheme for australia's health professions. the anmc board has resolved to restructure the organisation to become the accrediting body for nursing and midwifery in australia as part of the national registration and accreditation scheme. the nbv does not agree with the decision, so has resigned its membership of anmc. what do you think of this? are we directly or indirectly affected with their resignation from anmc? whew!! i'm again panicking:uhoh21:. what's gonna be next? just saw that news recently on nbv's website.

Wow! just found this thread and just read the last 15 pages, This is really enlightening and helpful.

I just recieved my approval letter from NBV and i'm going to apply to Ramsay Health Care. Can I still make it for November 2009?

Do i have to be a permanent resident to apply to ramsay?

I'm still in the philippines so how will they schedule the phone interview?

What are they asking on the interview about clinical scenario?

Please give some examples?

Thank you in advance

Hey looker, you dont have to be a permanent resident to qualify for Ramsay IRON program...

They will schedule you for a phone interview via email...I had mine last July 22, and the conversation we had was so light and smooth...they are nice and friendly, here goes my MS question:

You are about to admit a 60y/o, female pt, post laparotomy from operating theatre, with O2 via nasal canula, with epidural catheter, with urinary catheter, with compression stockings...what will be your nursing interventions in the first four hours of attending to this patient?:nurse:

Hope it helps.....:heartbeat

thanks for your reply, that would help me a lot in my review.

it's good that they schedule it by email, how many days prior to your interview were you notified?

thanks again

I was notified July 20, then they gave me choices of dates I prefer to be interviewed,

choices were: July 21, 22 or 28....I chose 22 coz I dont want tp prolong my agony...:wink2:

Goodluck to you....sure you can make it...:nurse: future Vic RN...

hi, does ramsay requires its applicants to have a work experience? if yes, whats the minimum years of experience? how much is the IRON at ramsay? how many sets of interviews they have? thank you...:)

Thanks i'm now a bit more confident for the interview, i'll be submitting the requirements to ramsay health today via email.

how long will it take before they notify me of the phone interview?

aside from the personal question and clinical scenario, do they also ask about drugs/pharmacology, or health ethic laws, legalities, psychiatric? or they just more on Med/surg?

i really appreciate your help thanks

Hi ryan, Im not sure if Ramay requires work experience, in my case, I have only 6 months training experience here, no employment yet. Ramsay fee is $A 5,500 and next intake will be on Nov 2. I dont know how many sets of interview, I have mine only once but I've read here, that someone here in this thread(sorry, I forgot the name) that he had his 2nd interview at Ramsay...so maybe 2 sets...

I have applied at Ramsay first week of June, they do reply very fast with my application and told me that they need my eligibility letter before they will process further my application...When I received my eligibility they are the one who contacted me at once, even I didn't inform or send them yet my eligibility...I guess they can acquire the list of applicants with eligibility letter from NBV....that's only my opinion

Goodluck with your Ramsay application :clown:

Looker, Ramsay didn't ask me questions in Pharmacology, health ethics...etc. Just MS question because she asked me what areas I have been assigned to in my training, and I said MS ward, so maybe thats why she asked about MS....:wink2:
