New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hello!

Anybody here who will be joining the Sept 7 bp at ETEA? :D

Hi Farah, How long did it took you to receive your positive assessment from NBV? From the time you lodge your application up to the time you got your assessment. I submitted my docs to QNC since November 2008, but i have not receive positive assessment notification up to now. I also submitted my docs to NBV last friday.:nuke:

hi izay,

i too, am a second courser. applied to qnc last december 2008. i got a letter from qnc last april 29 saying i needed to submit a theoretical breakdown of hours and detailed course description. I was able to comply all lacking docs just 2 weeks ago. i hope my application would be approved the qnc anytime soon. i also have another concern. when i applied last december 08, the requirement for ielts was still 6.5 in reading and listening. they changed it to 7 all sometime later. I am worried if my application wont be approved because of my ielts. does anyone of here have the experience as me?or do you know anyone who applied with a 6.5 in reading and listening before qnc issued a statment for the 7 all? plspls i need to know..tnx . :)

i think if you have submitted the ielts result before the qnc changed its english laguage result requirements it is still valid if you have got 6.5 in reading and listening...the council will have a look of the released date of the result and the date of your application anyway, so i think there will be no problem regarding that. so take it easy :D

Wow! just found this thread and just read the last 15 pages, This is really enlightening and helpful.

I just recieved my approval letter from NBV and i'm going to apply to Ramsay Health Care. Can I still make it for November 2009?

Do i have to be a permanent resident to apply to ramsay?

I'm still in the philippines so how will they schedule the phone interview?

What are they asking on the interview about clinical scenario?

Please give some examples?

Thank you in advance

hi jmusic! :typing

i came across this 4-month training course in UP-PGH which might interest you.

of course, this is an option, if you decide not to take a diploma/degree course in Aus.

i dont know how to make a new post, so i guess a reply is all i can do. hehe. :) anyway i am interested in this training course, and i was wondering if upon completion of this 4-month training..will this bear any weight at all if there will be an staff opening at UP-PGH? (if ever that happens). i mean, 5thousand is heavy on the pocket. :nurse:

hope someone could help me with this while i read on the rest of this thread...thank you!

Hi, had some friends do some volunteer work much like this at PGH and after the end of the training period, they were just given a certificate of training. While working at PGH did give them the needed experience since they were handling wards and doing things on their own after 2 weeks of training. But no one them eventually got accepted as a Staff, they were just told to apply like the others. While 5,000 may actually still seem cheap because their batch had to pay i think 8,000 pesos and since most of them lived in quezon city, some of them ended up in nearby dorms just to have ample rest and sleep. This was back in mid 2008...

Hi guys,

Just wondering..once registered in QNC..is it really that easy to look for a job?

We had so many people leave in the past few months and no update from anyone of them. So just wondering is all...

thanks ramiboy for pointing me to the right direction!

*blows of the dust in med/surg textbook* now I could get started on what possible questions they might give. this is really helpful, please keep posting more questions. thanks

regarding the permanent residency is it a requirement in ramsay?

Have you also enquired in mercy health training institute and st. vincent's private hospital? unlike ramsay they don't have details online.

i might meet my future classmates here. yay!

I remember being in melbourne during autumn winter 2006, five seconds in the parking lot and my knees started shaking, that never happened before considering i have strong tolerance for the cold, then i got home and heard it was 3 degrees celsius on those wee hours.

so remember to pack in those thermal underwear and save those mini skirts for warmer season or if you can't wait (like me) in the afternoon is fine where there is sunshine.

Don't worry I will :)

I tried to do some minor research since I'm pretty busy at the moment and found out some things that hopefully will help you. I found out that you can apply for a "conditional registration" to the state board and then you'll be required to complete a re-entry course.

I have found this in NBV's website: http://www.nbv.org.au/web/guest/courses-return-to-practice-programs

Now, what I am unsure of is that if those courses are applicable for IENs. I would suggest that you could probably email or ring NBV about this matter to double check.

Sorry I'm not much of help to you but I hope this can lead you to the right solution for your case. :S

Thanks Aelith, I'll be checking NBV'S website. Hope i can find answers to my case:confused:...God bless
