Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
hi.. i have attended a seminar from one of the consultancy firms in the Philippines.. they told me about the fast track which has two options. the first one is the CAS (you would take first the Part A but if you fail the part A you have to study the modules). next is the ion course which is a new one and more expensive than CAS... have you heard bout it? but this one is not explained to us well, so if someone can give me more info about it i would appreciate it...I still dont know if i should take the Bridging program or the CAS program on my own or get the help of the consultancy firm. pls send me the names of the consultancy firm that could assit me... or just sen a PM to me...
if ever that i would do the CAS program on my own, where would i get the review materials? can i take the written exams here in the Phil? i know that i have to go to Aus just to have the clinical.
i am still undecided what state should i apply to.. i don't have any work experience... huhuhuh
thanks!!!
I have not heard anything about ION so, I cannot help you on that one. Can you describe me what they told you about this "fast-track" pathway?
You don't have to apply for QNC's CAS only, there are other Bridging Programs which do not have exams and will require you to stay in Australia for about 10 weeks or so for the program.
As for those here who have done QNC application on their own, they purchased books to use for it which are I think recommended by the CAS provider. Part A can be done in Philippines while Part B and/or the 1 month clinical placement will be done in Australia.
the consultancy firm offers two options. the first one is just like the cas program of the qnc. but here, we are obliged to take the challenge test first. they would provide the review materials. the written exam is taken here in the philippines while the clinical will be taken in australia. we only use the study modules if we failed in the test. the sad thing is we have to pay extra for it. this option costs 10k aud. meanwhile, if i will apply my own i have the option of taking the challenge test or study modules, right? thus, it can save me money if i decided to take the study modules.
the second option is the ion course. this is a new one and more expensive. 20k aud. i don’t know if it is a bridging program or what. it is a 13 week program (3 weeks theoretical 10 weeks practical). student visa will be used. i can’t remember if there is an exam after this. and if i remember it right the venue is in one of the provinces in victoria. the first batch under this program would leave on january 2010.
those are the only things i can share about the ion course. they just discussed it to us briefly and didn’t give us any pamphlet or any written documents regarding this. the amount includes the accommodation, airfare, assessment fee, visa processing fee, the examination fee etc. they would also help us find a job. so, i don’t know if this amount is worth it. if you could suggest any firms that i can help me and costs not that much i would really appreciate it.
thanks.. :rcgtku:

wow! 20k??! i'd rather study a degree in australia. that's a bit too expensive for 13 weeks....
thanks for the welcome guys!:1luvu:With all the options presented here something is still bothering me. What possible changes in the process of registration as a nurse in Australia will ANMC make? Any idea or news regarding this national registration?
Actually, it is not ANMC that is handling the National Registration but rather the COAG. ANMC is for Migration purposes.
Please refer to the websites below for more information:
You can actually apply without IELTS result yet. But please make sure that you will follow up your result as soon as you get it so you can have your eligibility letter for taking the Bridging Programs or CAS in Qld.
aelith, thanks a lot for the summary of documents required
i'd just like to clarify this one, specifically for QLD, in the light of the new ELT requirement. i've downloaded a copy of the PDF from their website, and to quote:
does this mean, as of date above, QLD will no longer begin the processing an application for assessment unless they have actually received your IELTS result direct from the test provider? or can one still submit all other documents already on hand and just provide proof that a request has already been made from the test provider for the TRF "to follow"? :typingAs of 1 July 2009, all international applicants, regardless of country of origin, must provide evidence of a satisfactory result in a Council approved English language proficiency test. The results must have been achieved within the previous two years of the date of the application.Applications will not be accepted until this satisfactory evidence has been received by Council directly from the test provider. Your application will be matched to the results on our file, and will then be progressed.

hi all. just wanted to share what i have read by far from the nbv and their recommended bp, for those eligible.
i think the ion course is the same as iron/ircon specific to this nursing board - initial registration (course) for overseas-qualified nurses. a pdf attachment available for download in the nbv site has listed about 13 providers. the cost of the course ranges from aud 6,000-12,000, varying per course provider. the duration varies too, between 12-14 weeks or thereabouts. for some providers, places/slots are limited. others prefer applicants with experience.
i've also read about a pre-registration course for oqn, from another pdf download from the same site. only 2 providers are listed, duration of 11-26 weeks, cost between aud 10,000-15,000.
details not factored here are accommodation, airfare and visa and employment assistance, among others :typing
anyone with other information re: these, please feel free to add...
