New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

hello guys! :heartbeat

thanks so much for those of you especially ms Aelith :yeah: who takes time and reply to all the questions and offer tips to our fellow nurses :)

many many thanks!

:yeah:

hello everyone and hello ms aelith,

i have a question about the theoretical breakdown... does it have to include all major and minor subjects? i read from somewhere that its like that one we ask from from our college when we apply for CG or nclex. when i looked at my CG and NClex form the data they put in there were only the ones asked for (in the table). should i ask from my college for the same theoretical breakdown of hours following the cg/nclex forms? pls help?

Did they tell you that you need to submit theoretical breakdown of all Nursing subjects or all Subjects? If it is the former, then provide the document for the Nursing subjects, if the latter, then provide for all subjects.

For me, I would always try to submit the complete version (including all subjects), so that it covers all which includes the nursing subjects as well, thus, lessening the possibility that they will ask you another document. Just a thought :)

hi ms aelith..thank God youre here.heheheh it says i copy/paste: "provide a clear breakdown of the theoretical hours of the nursing course that you completed"...pls help me understand if its just nursing subjects or all subjects including the arts.huhu. im sorry..i know its just too simple to understand but for 1 month now, ive been to and fro from our college to the registrar's office and back, and then back again, coz i need to have someone sign this before they can make this and that..and whew! its so draining..but yet i wont give up! haha i have to comply my requirements coz i really want to be able to take the part a exam.. oopps sorry..it seems im kinda venting out my feelins sorey

To be safe, I would suggest you submit the theoretical breakdown of the subjects you took in your nursing course. Did you present this to you school? I'm pretty sure they know what to do with this one.

You can vent out here :) I hope it will be okay for you in the end. Try not to worry too much.. okay? :)

Thank you for your help Aelith.

I tried reading all the previous entries but the thread is quite long... so i apologize if my question had been answered before.

I also want to ask the following

- what state would you best recommend?

- how much would my application cost?

- how long will the application process be?

Thanks again. I appreciate all your help. God bless ^_^

Do you have nursing experience? If so, for how long and are you still employed?

Application costs varies and can be checked in the Nursing Board's website of each state. Should be around 200-300 Aud.

Application process will depend a lot on the bulk of nurses applying and whether you will submit a complete application or not. But for initial assessment, you can expect to wait for 2-3 months on the average for the initial assessment alone (should you have a complete application). Then add the length of the BP plus result processing.

ms Aelith in case i'll opt to bring my family to Australia after finishing the BP but prior to getting a 457 visa, they will be using a short stay tourist visa right? after finding an employer who would sponsor the change of my visa to a 457 visa, would my hubby and kids need to exit Australia po ba before i could convert their visas as dependents to the 457 visa po?

Thanks thanks!

Hello exquisitejoy :)

I am not a migration agent so I don't have 100% information on such. However, I did go to DIAC's website and double checked for you. I found out that it is possible to bring your family along with you should you apply for a 456 (business short stay) visa using the same visa subclass as long as you can show financial support to all of them and meet other requirements.

For, visa subclass 676 (tourist visa), only children below 18 years old can be included in your visa application. Other family members will have to apply for their own individual visas.

If you and your family are holding the 456/676 visa subclass, then when you apply for a 457 visa, they are also included and would not need to exit Australia as long as the following applies:

1. You still hold a valid 456/676 visa subclass when you applied for 457 visa

2. You are still in Australia holding a bridging Visa

Please be informed though, that this is just based on the information on DIAC's website. I may have intrepeted parts of it in a different way. :)

Please refer to the link below for your information:

thank you!! thank you!! thank you so much ms Aelith!!!

:yeah::yeah::yeah:

Tnx aelith for the info...

I only have 6 months of training experience. What state would accept my training experience? If I'm not mistaken I read from earlier post that its either queensland or victoria.

Im also concerned of how much money will I need to all this process, including the application and bridging program until I can finally work as a nurse?

Will I be able to find a part time job in australia/ NZ while this process is on going? And will it suffice for all my expenses?

Tnx a lot.. Sorry for having too many questions and if this has been answered earlier.

If the 2 year course will make you eligible for a 50-60 point occupation in SOL and that you will have a positive skills assessment from the regulating body of that specific occupation, then YES, you will be able to apply for PR status after or a temporary graduate skilled visa.

You can only nominate RN if his course is directly related or closely related to the occupation, otherwise, you cannot.

I know a few people doing this. Some have applied for culinary, IT, business related, Welfare, etc.

Any degree to be studied in Australia is really gonna be expensive, however, diplomas or trade certificates are half the price. But, you also have to take note that not all diplomas and/or trade certificates will allow you to apply for PR status especially when it comes to getting that positive assessment from the regulating body.

I always suggest that you first check out SOL, then jot down all the 50-60 points occupations. Next, is to list down beside it, the corresponding regulating body. Then you should check the website of the regulating bodies which can be found at the last few pages of the SOL pdf file. Study the requirements and see if you can meet the requirements to have a positive skills assessment. Sort out which occupations you have a possibility of having a positive assessment. Last step is choosing which course will make you eligible for those occupations in the previous step and then choose the school you want.

thanks Aelith for a clear reply...I think, I would study a 2yr health-related course there, so I can nominate RN as my profession which is 60 points...but still I need to do BP in order for me to become an RN...

do you think this is a wise path:

1)study (health related course) for 2 yrs

2)do BP to be RN

3)apply for ANMC Assessment

4)if +, apply for Graduate Skilled Visa

5)Work for at least 1yr

6)Apply for PR subclass 885:yeah::D:lol2:
