New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

by the way, Aelith...i have a question...

If in case i get the license from NBV to work as a nurse, how long is it's eligibility? and will it still be recognized even by July 2010 when they will transition to national accreditation?

Nurse's registration in Australia is to be renewed yearly. As for the national registration in place, I cannot say yet what will happen.

I emailed NBV about my application after my first amendment and she said i should receive my assessment letter before July 12, 2009 because they received my ammended application form in June 12. I hope everything's fine...

Anyway, Is 200,000 enough financial requirement for a 3-4 month's stay in Australia? I have corresponded with Deakin and they said i should apply for a student visa and not a short-stay visa...

Deakin's BP is CRICOS registered hence the need to apply for a student visa. You are actually lucky since you'll have permission to work which should be very useful when you get there to help pay for your daily expenses. As for the financial requirement, it is a bit different with a student visa since you will need to show that you have enough money for your tuition, return air fare and living expenses. The 200k you have is only enough for the living expenses, you have to add too, the tuition and the air fare if I am not mistaken.

well, hehehe, in my case, I lodged my application Feb 25, received my acknowledgment March 5, received the assessment result June 8. Unfortunately, I have to send a breakdown of my thoretical hours from my school since I'm a second course. So I will. Tedious, lengthy process, but the fruit smells madnificent! :yeah: P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E

wow! even though you need to send additional docs, you're still very lucky..it was fast!! :yeah: i agree, we all just have to be PATIENT...

Here Here, guess whats a couple more days right..its not like a year or anything..how about you terranova. Hows your application ?

NBV will start implementing their new IELTS rule this July 1, 2009.

ALL applicants required to demonstrate English language competence must achieve the prescribed test result as set out below:- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Academic test: a score of at least 7 in all four components of IELTS (Reading; Listening; Writing and Speaking) with an overall band score of at least 7;

OR

Applicants must achieve the above scores at a single test sitting and the test must have been completed within two (2) years.

What does it mean that the test must be completed in 2 years? I know the test can be finished in just one day. With this stricter rule, it would be more difficult to be registered there when it is one of the state that offers many bridging programs. Migration is really expensive nowadays.

It means that if you did the IELTS in one sitting it must be within the 2 years of you sending in your application

Me, 5 more days to make it 3 months of waiting..M dying to hear from them. Whats the date on your acknowledgment letter icejo ? Hope the rest of you guys are doing well especially does beginning with their applications. chocokat hows your IELTS ?

Hi nykhouston! I will be receiving my result on Friday :uhoh21:. So nervous... I am really worried about my speaking part. Hay... Anyway, do you guys know if we can submit 2 IELTS results? Because for sure, if one receives a score lower than 7 in even just 1 component then he/she should retake the IELTS right? So my question is, what if on your 2nd take you get a score higher than 7 on the component that you failed on the first take but then get a score lower than 7 in one of the components (but on the first take you scored higher than 7)? Like what if Listening, Reading and Writing you get an 8 on the first but get a lets say, 6 in Speaking. Then after your retake you get 8 in Speaking but get a score lower than 7 in one of the remaining components? Will QNC honor 2 test results or would you have to retake again until you get 7 in all components in one test result? Seriously for the past week I've been having bad dreams about this. I DO NOT WANT TO RETAKE THE IELTS OVER AGAIN huhuhu...

Anyway it's a bit out of topic but just want to know if any of you guys know if QNC is okay with 2 test results?

Hmmm... I replied to nykhoustons question regarding my IELTS before I read the rest of the posts that I haven't seen yet. Well that's what I mean about my post a while ago, if QNC requires the 7 in each component in one test sitting? Thanks gemini star for making it easier for me to rephrase my question regarding QNC's IELTS requirement.

So what do you guys think? I am really going out of my mind because of this... :chair:

It won't be valid anymore. You have to pass it in one sitting. If you fail one, you have to really retake it. There is one exam that you can take if you want to retake only the failed components - OET. Occupational English Test is more expensive tho - around 700 Aud.

As far i understand one sitting means one try or first take only to do the exam. If that's the case, it is very hard for those whose English is a second language. Please correct me i'm wrong. It's hard to evaluate your IELTS exam because you can't gauge your level at first.

NBV means Nursing Board of Victoria.

Does anybody know the competency programs in New South Wales?
