New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

May i just ask dolcevitarn what the timeframe for your assessment was..

When did you send the application, receive acknowledgment and finally the assessment ?

Just so that i have a guide more or less =)

to nykhouston....thats the advantage of having this thread, people with experience in application

in any nursing board can help anyone who needs it...the manner of certification is important like

you did as they are very strict with that. Most of the state has systematic process. If I were you ,

you can ring them to know the progress of your papers especially early in their opening hour to avoid so

much queue, that's if you were told 30 days after. And you will just realized, that our mailing here is

actually the snail and you just have to check on it. It is an advantage if you have a friend or relative

in Australia since you can use their address instead for quicker receipt of doc. Posting by mail is

usually received within 3 to 7 days in Australia wide.

Not yet, i sent mine to QNC and when i got my acknowledgment letter last march it said not to contact them till i received the assessment letter. I sent my application last march and a week later i got the acknowledgment..so maybe they are just really busy ...but its so tempting to email them already..When did you send your application to Victoria?

hi, me and my friend lodged our application too with QNC in Feb 24, got our acknowledgment March 5, and still waiting for our assessment result until now. Perhaps it's taking longer now due to the increasing number of applicants, but hopefully we'll receive our assessment results sooner :-)

I got my acknowledgement Feb. 27, and haven't got my assesment yet. Hopefully this May or June.

So ill base my time line on ciao_88 and therooftop since they filed a month before i did. I hope all goes well guys. Thanks for posting your dates guys.Ill just wait and see then and read in between

nyk, i sent it last april 20---then as per my LBC tracker they received it April 27 (LBC takes longer than Fedex). on april 29, my credit card was charged of the application fee... i emailed them last MAy 15 and they replied that they already received my PRC verification last May 12.

Then they said it will be processed within 1 month and that i will be notified as soon as it is available. but the NBV encourages to check status of application through phone also.

Hi chabeli, I applied in victoria last March 22 and was notified receipt a week after by phone. I was able to monitor the status of my papers by phone a month after. A family friend in Melbourne received my eligibility last may 13. I used their address for quick receipt of papers and will just communicate with them by phone or email. Anyway, I can just request them to post it anywhere as needed. I was eligible in for CAS in QLD before, but I chose the modules for I have no idea of the exam. I quitted for I thought it will take me a long time to finish evrything. Its too late for me to know the excellent suggestions of people in this thread. Cheers.

ryan, i am aiming for the October 12 intake of ETEA. i am just waiting for my NBV assessment which they already confirmed receipt and it should arrive within the next 3 weeks. my credit card was already charged of the application fee last April 29.

hey, we could do the BP together..im still waiting for the VCHN to ring me back...as im also considering VCHN..:)

my CI way back in college did her BP in ETEA. and she told me there was a Filipino lecturer there...and she felt comfortable..in fact among the nationalities enrolled in their class...Filipino RNs dominated the class...hehehe...there were 4 filipinos in the class as what my CI told me. and when they have finished the BP, 4 of them was featured in the Filipino newspaper in victoria...i was able to read it when i went to the philippine consulate in melbourne...:)

@dudzy, bring the thickest coat/jacket, as its freezing in here. this morning skyscrapers in melbourne werent visible because of the fog. :D welcome to australia mate!...:D hope to meet you here.

all this talk of victoria...makes me want to shift to victoria..hehe how long is the BP program there? 2 years ..and its 10,000 plus for the 2 years or is that just for 1 year ?

hi, no its three months...and not all of the providers will ask you to pay 10,000..theres less than 10k, theres 5k...:)depends on which instituion or facilityy you wish to enrol.

How I wish I can apply right away,Ryan, but the problem is the money. I am monitoring also the Aus dollar- its 36 pesos/dollar right now as compared last feb and march (30 pesos/dollar). It will just be a fortune now if I will be in at Ramsay health. Otherwise etea, ballarat and victoria are also my options. I have my friend in Melbourne rang all other institution referred in our letter but most of them she said is not offering the course now- but not sure with this. Have you tried ringing them as well? is it true? What other institution do you know offering less than 10 thou? thanks

oh ok...why not try QNC? yes ive tried ringing almost all of them, but some of them arent offering the course anymore/this year, even if they have got an existing accreditation from the NBV...i know Deakin Uni and Ramsay Hosp will only ask less than 10k. but the problem is Deakin is already fully booked, and their next intake will be in January next year. Ramsay will require you to undergo a Graduate Nurse Program for 12 months if you havent got enough experience that will satisfy them...Etea and VCHN are the two institutions wherein you can easily enrol with no much requirements needed.which is really good for us.
