New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hello Everyone,

I am so thankful that i found out about this forum, it's so informative and I learn a lot from it..guys, I would like to ask if there are already information about the changes on how to apply as a nurse in australia next year? are there updates?? thank you and God bless us all...

hello everyone! this thread is very helpful. although I have another concern which hasn't been tackled yet. I am very much interested with the Master of Nursing in the University of Sydney. I am married with 1 son. If i apply, would I be able to bring my husband and son right away? and is the education (for my son) there free like in Canada?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Yes, you would be able to bring your hubby and son. However, the financial requirement would be more for you since your hubby and son will be coming with you. Your son's education will not be free as far as I know.

When are you planning to study at Usyd? If you need any help with that, just message me. :)

Hi Dudzy..is the police clearance, the NBI clearance? Did u submit it yourself in your application with ETEA? thanks

Hi Dudzy..I hope u can visit Eureka Tower's "the-edge"- it is breathtaking....

hey ryan09! thanks for that!

I just sent my QLD application today i wasnt able to write any letter with regards to why i havent had any experience. has any1 out there have the same situation?

another question to those who have applied and passed CAS.. after passing Part B in Queensland and waiting for the license.. is it advisable to just go back home after getting the license and look for a sponsoring hospital? instead of staying in QLD and look for a sponsor there?

thanks!!!

With regard to your second question, this would depend on how long your visa is valid for and if you have enough money for your stay. Keep in my mind that you will not be allowed to work so you will have to use your savings for the rest of the time you'll be staying. In my opinion though, it would be smart to start hunting for possible employers while you are doing your Part B or your clinical module in Queensland. At least you'll be making the most of your stay there without the added cost. All you have to do is ready your CV and pass it to employers. It is also possible that the hospital/facility where you will have your clinical placement (for those going for the 160 hours) will be able to offer you a job or offer sponsorship after successfully completing the clinical part.

update:
