New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

QLD is one of my favorite state- I was there last 2006. It is clean and green- such a lovely place to live in. They have a cheaper cost of study, but again you can read my reason in my previous post of why not QNC anymore. I aready applied at Ramsay health, just waiting for the outcome- I think I have an idea already of what will they say as u mentioned. Well, let see what I can do in Victoria anyway. Thanks for your information

hi mine has already been assessed by the Qnc...NBI, no its not necessary...just have your passport or ID photocopied and certified...the QNC will inform you if you need to obtain an NBI clearance. as what i have understood they will require police clearance to some of the applicants and not to all of the applicants.:) as the assessment process is done individually.

thanks so much ryan09! :) i have a question that left me scratching my head for the past 2 weeks and reading the forums did not help much.

my question is that: I have 0 nursing experience since i took the board last 06'. In the QLD application form there are questions in item no 5: Most recent Practice - should i leave this blank or write in "NOT APPLICABLE"?\

and on item no 6 - Competence declaration - is it safe for me to tick the box that says: "i have not practised as a nurse/midwife within the previous 5 years or am unable to declare that i am competent to practise. Please send further information about regaining my compentence" will they hold it against me if i do answer this? or this is their basis for CAS??

thanks so so much!!!!!!

hi, there are nurses applied in queensland who does not have experience post registration in the philippines. so better for you not to write anything in the most recent practice/item no.5..yes you have to tick the box in item no.6 since you dont have any exprience.no they wont hold it against you that will serve as the basis for them on how to assess your papers accordingly. is there any other options in item no.6?

Thanks ryan09! :) pheww... the other option on item 6 is "I confirm the statements above and i declare that i have practise as nurse/midwife within the last 5 yrs and i am fit and competent to practise nursing and midwifery"

thanks so much!!!

hey, we could do the BP together..im still waiting for the VCHN to ring me back...as im also considering VCHN..:)

my CI way back in college did her BP in ETEA. and she told me there was a Filipino lecturer there...and she felt comfortable..in fact among the nationalities enrolled in their class...Filipino RNs dominated the class...hehehe...there were 4 filipinos in the class as what my CI told me. and when they have finished the BP, 4 of them was featured in the Filipino newspaper in victoria...i was able to read it when i went to the philippine consulate in melbourne...:)

@dudzy, bring the thickest coat/jacket, as its freezing in here. this morning skyscrapers in melbourne werent visible because of the fog. :D welcome to australia mate!...:D hope to meet you here.

Ryan ~ As soon as as i'll get my NBV assessment, i will enroll right away in ETEA to catch up with the October intake. Are you close to Heidelberg? I'm afraid i will have to rent a room because South MOrang is too far. i was planning to stay with my gf's relative but they said it's far from Heidelberg and it will cost so much to commute daily. is VHCN St. Vincent's something?? when is their next intake?

I just need to join the soonest intake as i can.

One of the possible reasons why QNC assessment is delayed during this time of the year is the renewal of license in Qld. April-July is the license renewal period.

hi unadunad, sorry the website disallow me to reply any private messages yet. As to your enquiry, I am not decided yet as to where I will do my bridging course. I have applied at Ramsay health, and still waiting for the result. Goodluck for your IELTS. Keep me posted then.

hi you need to tick the box in item no.6...since you dont have experience post registration...and maybe you could attached a justification stating the reason why you havent pratice for how many years...:)
