New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hi. My lawyer notarized it the way they are notarizing most Philippine documents (telephone numbers and addresses are not included). I have personally inquired this with an agent from ANSM and said that it would be fine if you don't include the address and telephone numbers. Most of their nurse applicants were accepted. Howver, I suggest that you still input the adddress and telephone numbers as requested. As of now, I don't have any notifications coming from them that I need to supply these information. I would be glad to present them my original documents also for verification purposes.

I sent the application via registered mail. It took about 15 days. If you have enough, you can use the postal service's EMS. That's roughly 600 pesos for Australia and it will take about a week to arrive in the PO box address. I strongly, recommend that you use the PO box address, because this is the address for correspondents. I think the Charlotte address is used when you have to visit their office.

I will update the forum about the whereabouts of my application. Please let me know if you have questions.

thanks for the info...really appreciate it....

so, it's okay that address and phone# are handwritten?

I applied for registration with NMBWA. When I had my docs certified by a notary public, I just wrote the telephone number of the lawyer since his stamp does not indicate his tel. #. My docs were received and evaluated already. I already got a decision from NMBWA which means handwritten telephone number is acceptable to them.

Good luck and God bless.

Nurse Mavi,

Does NBWA requires experience? For how long?

Thanks

NMBWA does not require experience for them to be able to assess your application for reg. and attached docs. but the institutions offering the bridging program asks 1 year or 1,840 hrs of post graduate experience(paid or in training or volunteer type) up to two years(for another institution). The BP is composed of 4 weeks theoreticals and 4(fulltime)-8(part time) weeks clinicals.

I hope you are enlightened.

Good luck and God bless.

nursemarvi,

may i asked the time line, starting of with your application until you got approval from NBWA? What are the options given to become registered?..what universities are you looking into? thanks

To Thinkerbell:

Here is the timeline of my application

Sept 03 - sent docs to NMBWA

Sept 08 - docs received by NMBWA

Sept 10 - forwarded to Manager for decision

Sept 16 - received an email informing me to take Bridging program

??????? - awaiting actual receipt of letter

The complete information about the bridging program of NMBWA can be searched in its website. It is reliable as they are the authority in Nursing in WA.

Good luck and God bless.

strange... i alrdy hve more thn 15 posts but my pm isn't actvated yet.....hmmm..

anyways... i have a bad feeling that my certified docs would be

rejected. "certified xerox copy of the original document" was the one stated on my docs instead of "certified true copy....". i know for a fact that xerox is commonly used in the phils as a term to refer photo copy. qnc might be puzzled about it. haaaayyy.........but i am hoping they would still consider it.

tel# and address werent indicated as well. haaay.............

gudluck to me. such a waste of time and money...

Can anyone give me the details about the challenge test, I also have relatives in brisbane. I would like to know more about seating in a challenge test. Until now I'm still clueless on the requirements to be eligible to take a test.

replies would be greatly appreaciated.

Thank you very much Nursemavi.

God Bless you.

For certification of documents, it would be best to have it certified in the the same institution that provided you the specific documents. (e.g. transcripts and diplomas certified by registrar of Uni, PRC documents notarized by their own notary officers)

@bice29: To undergo Queensland's CAS program, you will need first to apply for registration at QNC. You will be needing their recommendation letter to be able to enroll in the CAS program. Experience is not necessary, however, encouraged. You may or may not be required to have your credentials assessed by ANMC if you don't have any experience.

If you are advised to undergo the CAS program, you will have to decide between the 2 options: Education modules or Challenge Test.

The Challenge test has 2 parts - Written Examination and Clinical Examination (1 day in Brisbane). If you are successful with Part A (Written Exam), you will then proceed to Part B (Clinical). However, if you fail the exam, you are not allowed to retake it. You will be referred to take the specific theoretical modules that they think you need to focus on. If you are successful with the modules, you will be eligible to take the Part B (Clinical). If you still fail the theoretical modules, you will most probably not be registered and they might suggest other options that will make you eligible for registration (e.g. pre-registration nursing degrees).

Now, for the clinical part, if you pass it, you will be eligible for registration. If you are unsuccessful, you will be referred to take the clinical module. If you are successful in the Clinical module, you will be registered. But if you are still unsucessful, you will not be registered. You will also be referred to other options like pre-registered nursing degrees.

You can only take the Challenge test once.

The other option in CAS is the Education modules. There are 4 Education modules (Theory and Clinical). Each module is 3 months or 12 weeks in duration. You can enroll in as many module as you can at a time. However, it is recommended that you enroll in one module at first to check the difficulty level. If you think you can handle more than 1 module at a time, you can enroll in another module. The Clinical component of the Education Modules is to be practiced in Brisbane for 1 month. If you are successful, you will registered. However, if you fail the Education Modules, you will not be registered and will be referred to take a pre-registered nursing degree.

Hope that helped :) If there's anything else you need, just ask and I'll do what I can.

I just want to share something.

today a friend of mine dropped me a message on yahoo messenger and told me that she already got a response from QNC. However, the council were insisting that she needs to answer question #5: Recency of Practice. They told her she needs to provide a document that she is fit to practice or else she will be referred to ANMC.

We both don't know what should we provide since i also lodged my application with them. and like most of you here, we also dont have post-registration experience.

To those who lodged their application already, lets just pray hard that we get the approval from them whatever happens.

To those who intend to lodge their application right away, i guess it would be safer if you wait on those nurses whose papers are already being processed so that you know what to expect and you can prepare for it.
