New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

And BTW, the assessment from the Council is the first step. You can't proceed with the challenge test or even the education module if you don't get an approval from them. :banghead:

is pre registered nursing degrees and migrant bridging program just the same??what are costs for taking CAS/challenge test??

is it true that they're conducting a challenge test somewhere in makati and anyone here that can give details of the agency who can provide reviews and guidelines for the program??

thank you everyone!!

@ bice29

Pre-registration Nursing degree is different from a bridging program. The former are Nursing degrees (Bachelor of Nursing or Master of Nursing) while the latter is a Competency Assessment program - you don't get any award title from doing this one e.g. BN.

Nobody can post details for the agency you are asking here. And may I suggest also that you delete some mails on your inbox as it is already full. :)

@hotpotato101

I've replied to your message.

I deleted some messages in my inbox, you can now send a PM. Aelith thank you so much for your quick response. it would be a great help if you will post all the options to be registered in Queensland

@bice29

I have discussed a lot about QNC CAS program in my previous posts here. You can browse through the replies. If there's anything else that you don't understand or need clarification with, just tell me. I'll explain some more. :)

Hi aelith. If an applicant is denied by the nursing council would that mean he could not pursue any further application or would that mean the council would want you to take up the pre-registration course?

You can still be registered after you finish a pre-registration nursing degree. You can apply for any pre-registration Nursing degree in Australia. So, you are not really limited to Queensland alone. It is best to apply for degrees recognized by the relevant state regulating authority. That way, your registration will be expedited.

Should you need assistance with the pre-registration degrees, just tell me. :)

Thanks Aelith. One of the pre-registration requirements ive seen at Ballarat University does require a letter from the NBV that you are qualified for the course. Does that mean that one still has to apply for assessment and then wait for the decision of the council?

Hmm.. a letter from NBV? Could that course be a bridging program and not a Pre-registration Nursing degree? As far as I know, the degrees don't need anything from NBV. I'll double check for you.

UPDATE

International students must apply for these checks six months after entry into Australia. The police record must be renewed annually and the working with children record is renewed every five years.

Extra Requirements - Int

In order to satisfy English language requirements of the Bachelor of Nursing, international students are required to obtain an IELTS overall band score of 6.5 with no sub-score less than 6.0.

The above are the only requirements that is listed in University of Ballarat for BN. The following link is my source: http://www.ballarat.edu.au/coursefinder/display.php?enquiry=I

I have a question about verification. I was told by the PRC that since no form from the NBV is supplied for verification of current registration then all they need is a letter of good standing. I told them that the NBV needs a verification but they insisted that applications from australia only need the good standing letter from them. Is this true?

Yup it is true. PRC will send the letter to NBV directly.

So your saying that a certificate of good standing and verification of registration from the PRC is one and the same thing?
