New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

hello and good day fellow nurses,

ive read quite a number of pages now and a 100++ pages are quite a lot,,, and it's getting me quite confused,,, id really really really appreciate it if someone could brighten things up for me.

1) i have some experience (like 6mo lang) but i'd like the less riskier bridging thing,,, what's the first step? (im confused if i go to the immi.gov site and look for it there. or the qnc site.. or the cqu site?) sorry po talaga,,,,

2) if i do not plan to go thru an agency and do it all on my own (as i have seen everybody here is real helpful :) ) how much are we looking at here? 300kphp yata ang inaccurate computation ko :)

3) and if i do it all correctly and actually set foot on the "land down under" do i look for a place to stay by myself? like go house to house or apartment to apartment?

i think thats it for now, i'd rather not put too much and not have an answer, hehe! id apprecita kahit links lang sa previous pages.

thank you po and god bless us all,,, i hope i could call you guys "mate" in a few months,, :))

hi! welcome jason!

1. first thing you have to do is to choose what state you want to be registered. in qld, you must first be assessed by the qnc then after assessment qnc will advise you on what to do next, their assessment is on a case to case basis. if they require you to have a bridging program, they will refer you to cas under cquniversity. after the referral, you'll need to contact cas, there are 2 modes or pathways in doing the bridging program see http://www.qnc.qld.gov.au/upload/pdfs/publications/competence_assessment_service.pdf after you've finished the cas program, you'll now become eligible to be registered in qld.

2. the amount depends on what pathway you're going to choose. but expect to spend at least p200k for the full educational modules.

3. i think cas will help in looking for a place where you can stay.

Hi Everyone, New to this thread...Branyan, what's the time table since you've started your application and the time you got your QLD License.

hi i'm new at this site and after reading all the post, i've decided to go to an agency. I am a June 2006 passer and had a voluntary retake last 2007, i also had my NCLEX and IELTS but sadly, after 3 years, i'm still jobless. what i do have are just trainings/ volunteer in different hospitals where i have to pay them just so i can practice my profession.

I would really really want to do this on my own, but after reading the post (from page 1) i think, without experience, it would be difficult for me to find a job in OZ even after my success in CAS.

i juz dont know if i should go to consultancy or eca? i heard that the latter is cheaper. any kind soul who could give me some insights regarding these agencies.

i also want to thank Aelith for the help she's extending to us. hopefully i could also be of help to someone.

i will be praying that this CAS exam would finally give me the nursing job i had been dreaming since i graduated. i hope it would be worth it.

sorry for being emo . thank you for all who will reply regarding the agencies.

Hi there, can you please pm me those agencies you mentioned? Appreciate it!!! :)

From QNC Assessment to QNC registration and doing two modules in the CAS program took me about 10-11 months.
