New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hi hotpotato101,

Hi Potato,

If my memory serves me right, I never did try to take any pathway yet but as of now I am still hurdling for the NMBWA way (Perth). But I do inquire infos for QLD too. What did happened is that I just take somewhat "suntok sa buwan" in inquiring to NMBWA and they do responded to my enquiry promptly which led me to follow thru. I am not working currently, still looking for some. he he.

I replied here to your PM coz this is in connection to my previous posts, that we can do it by ourselves if we will just take the courage to make inquiries to authorities or offices pertaining our intentions. Just be polite enough and use the education our parents spent for.

More power to everybody.Have a clean heart. That is all what it takes.

i just want to quote something about what you posted.

" Just be polite enough and use the education our parents spent for."

what are you trying to imply by that? I mean if i remember correctly, i just asked you why you chose WA over QLD? why you need to say that? This is exactly what i said to you,

"hi patuman,

magtatanong lang sana...if im not mistaken dba ur off to QLD before? why you changed your plans? and currently working kaba? thanks!" :D

did i say anything that might have looked discourteous to you? coz so far i have seen none. so there's no need for you to make such remarks.

If you haven't noticed i'm just trying to make a conversation here. I'm currently looking for people who also plan of going to WA since it's our destination too. I think it would be nice to have some contacts there once we go there, so the transition wouldn't be too hard for us.

Im not trying to be rude, sarcastic or something, im just asking why and hopefully start a conversation after that.

It should've been posted in this thread in the first place coz its more of a PERSONAL MESSAGE.

Anyway no more comments here, just wanted to clarify things.

hi everyone!

would it be ok if I'll give a go signal to IELTS to send my official score results to QNC despite the fact that I haven't heard from them (QNC) yet? I recently passed my application btw that's why I haven't got any correspondence from them.=)

IF this is ok, i'll give to IELTS the same address where I sent my application, right? thanks!

yes...that would be a great move...in my case, i informed the ielts weeks prior to taking the exam, so that everything will be organized by them, and they require me provide an empty mail and give it to them together with the request form that should be filled up, for them to send a copy of the result and be forwarded to QNC. (i dont know if they will require you the same thing).

Hello Branyan,

I have a question about one of your posts.

"From QNC Assessment to QNC registration and doing two modules in the CAS program took me about 10-11 months."

I see here that you did only 2 modules instead of 4,,, correct me if I'm wrong, you're the one who adviced to "gamble" and take the challenge test right?

So if you took only 2 modules, you passed 2 and failed 2? Sorry for bugging you, just want to save on some modules... :)

Thanks in advace for the reply...

hi hotpotato,

i was surprised of your reaction. i never thought of the negative reaction nor that i showed offended. if you dissect my post, in the first pharagraph, the last words i wrote was 'he he'. i will never write that if i have hurt feelings or negative emotions or planning to make somebody feel offended.

secondly, the line:

" just be polite enough and use the education our parents spent for.".

for what this is worth, it is not directed to you, nor it was written with ill-thoughts. mainly i wrote it in this post so that some friends can share it. i was hinting that we use proper salutation and formation of our letter. coz right then and there, when we write our enquiry to them, they are already "grading" and observing us if we have the right knowledge, being a nurse. for me being a nurse should be polite and articulate. that's why i said we use the education our parents spent for. i can make this long but, i think i should stay on my side and just say i was trying to share. but if it hurt somebody then i better be quite. btw your pm was not that personal. we are all trying to share to everybody. everyone needs all the infos and inputs of everybody. that was my main intention. i even placed the bow smiley. i can't understand the negative post.

I was really aiming to get registered via the 2nd pathway ( challenge test + 1 day clinical exam) that's the reason why I took the challenge test but when I got the results..I only passed 2 subjects and failed in the other two which disqualified me from doing the 1 day clinical exam. I was then advised that in order to pass the CAS program, I need to do the 2 failed subjects by taking up its equivalent theoretical module. And this gave me the idea that if someone wants to save then he should try the challenge test, if he is able to pass 2 or 3 subjects then that's a lot of savings but there's a catch here..what if he passes all the subjects, he might be forced to do the 1 day clinical exam (which in my opinion is riskier, meaning the chances of failing is higher because you can't afford to make mistakes, the margin of committing errors or mistakes is very small as the exam is only done in one day :twocents:). Like what I've said in my previous posts, in hindsight, me failing the 2 subjects in the challenge test is a blessing... disguised. It forced me to do the 1 month placement which gave me the opportunity to prove myself. I admit that I wasn't able to see the possible benefits the placement may give when I was thinking on what pathway to take, all I want that time is to get registered as quickly as possible but now I regard my placement as the most important phase or component of the CAS program as it gave me the chance to show others, to show the placement facility what I'm capable of doing which I believe helped me a lot in getting the job. Just my :twocents: worth :smokin:.

hi, does it mean that before you do the clinicals, they will look first to your experience before they will admit you into the clinicals? is it a requirement before doing the clinicals?

No one can proceed to the CAS Program without the go signal from QNC. CAS will not check your qualifications because it's QNC's role or responsibility. QNC assess individual application on a case-to-case basis. I haven't heard or read anyone here who got rejected by QNC because he/she lacked experience.

congrats branyan... i have a question, aren't u allowed to take the clinical placement if one failed in test B?

Branyan,

I see! Got your point crystal clear. Well, I do not have to worry of the possibility of passing part A of the challenge test coz that would be a miracle :)).

I think I'd go with that idea of yours, even if I pass just one subject wouldn't be too bad.

Another thing, You took the challenge test there in Manila correct? (Im asking this because I am in Cebu and I have to consider travel and accomodation) And as for the 2 Modules, how do you go about with that? Like they Email you everything and you reply via Email in return?

Thank you again for the reply,,, Really really appreciate it
