New Excelsior Limitations

Published

Has anyone seen the new limitations? Guess I will have to "enroll" before that date since all my non-nursing classes are transferred in. This really makes me angry because the college I'm at won't be offering A&P II until October!

Ok, I did read the link. What does it mean? I am not enrolled yet, I wanted to get the gen eds and the two nursing classes done first to save money. I was looking at Straighterline for A&P. If I do A&P before Oct 1 it will be accepted? If so, which one do I need? A&P 1 with or without lab or A&P 2 with or without lab? I'm confused.

I just received my admission acceptance email, which includes my preliminary transcript review. This was posted at the bottom:

"School of Nursing General Education Credit Limitation - effective for students enrolling on or after October 1, 2012:

The School of Nursing limits the acceptance of credit from the National College Credit Recommendation Service

(National CCRS) and the American Council on Education (ACE) to 25% of the general education component towards

the nursing degree requirements. No credit from these sources will be accepted for core requirements.

A maximum of 7 credits from these sources can apply to the Associate degrees in nursing programs and a maximum of 15 credits can

apply to the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree and the RN to Master of Science in nursing. Acceptance of credit

earned from military training, CLEP, and DANTES examinations will not be limited."

This is so frustrating, because I'm utilizing The College Network (huge mistake BTW) to test out of my general ed courses and 3 of the nursing courses. I've already paid for these modules through them and now I won't be able to use them!

I'm seriously considering saying "Forget it!" to College Network and Excelsior! Also, I just discovered on Excelsior's website the issue of becoming licensed in different states: State Board Requirements - excelsior.edu

I think it's time for me to look into other colleges...

Well that sealed the deal for me! I will go another route besides Excelsior! Sounds like too much of a bother and my state is on the bad list for their program. Besides, I don't think any of my credits would have transferred.

From what I am understanding as long as your enrolled before October 1st you can transfer in as many credits as you want?? I am not sure how you are doing the gen. eds. I have gotten mine from brick and mortar schools that are regionally accredited. I never heard of Straighterline (Is this a new school?).

I am glad they (as of right now) have not changed that if you have obtained your LPN license within the past five years NURx105 is waived.

As far as states that do not recognize Excelsior, make you preceptor or have so many working hours as an RN those really have not changed (for the worst) and have been on the site since I first started looking into them. I don't plan on living in any of those states anyhow LoL.

I have a question about this - I am not enrolled yet in the Excelsior nursing program BUT I am taking my prereqs through Excelsior. Does this mean they will only accept a certain amount of those credits if I don't enroll now?

I also got my admissions email today and when I read that on the bottom I got very discouraged. I'm confused as to what I should do. The only thing I can think of is to get my rear in gear and get Health Safety and A&P done before Oct.1. I hope that I am thinking on the right path for this.

I knew it was coming....it is about time they were honest with the students.

Excelsior used to be a good alternative for people, however, they have consistently changed their policies over the years, and the changes have not been for the benefit of the students.

@Esme12 i am going through TCN as well if you transferr your credits before oct.and register before oct.you will be fine .Also u can call TCN and request that your other exams be taken through EC.

keep this in mind, there is a reason certain states do not accept excelsior as an approved program. unless excelsior is your only option i strongly recommend attending a real college. not trying to put down anyone's plan just saying that there really is a good reason why it isn't accepted everywhere.

LOL at your comment of going to a REAL college other than Excelsior. Its so funny to me how people who have no knowledge of Excelsior have so many negative things to say about it. Thank God I dont listen to every little thing on this website, other wise I would have never gone through with EC.

This school is more accredited than most schools across the US. you should have no problems going through EC if you take your prereqs at a community college or you can take them with EC. the only state that absolutely wont accept EC grads is Cali.

All im saying is do your research and dont believe EVERY little thing you read. (:
